- India is facing a coal shortage and electricity crisis. Many state governments are asking people to utilize electricity judiciously like the Andhra government have urged public to avoid AC after 6 pm fearing power crisis. Similar news of power shortage coming from Gujarat, Haryana, Kerala, Karnataka, Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan. But did you know that India is not the only country which is facing a coal shortage? A similar coal shortage, blackouts and power crisis have been seen in European Union and China where the price of coal has also increased. Why is this happening? I explain in this video.

There is not a coal shortage in India but a money shortage.
States have not made full payment to coal India for many years due to which coal India is not supplying coal to them.
States have failed to stop electricity theft and have kept the price low to woo voters. But someone would have to pay ultimately.
Please don't panic centre has reassured there's no shortage of coal ...
Just like there was no shortage of oxygen , medicine, hospital beds during COVID 2nd wave 😂 ..

Abey tariff per unit is below 3 rupees as compared to coal which is 9 rupees so 12%GST WILL NOT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE.

It's better to use coolers instead of ACs as the coolers just consume 10 % of the energy as compared to ACs.
It also reduces bill, and makes our body adaptable for natural environment.
We can compromise on our needs to prevent future critical conditions of blackouts !!
But coolers need water, and with the kind of water scarcity faced by many regions in india, this wouldn't be feasible

1) What government saying:
--> Due to sudden demand of electricity from industries after pandemic, unable to meet the power consumption demand.
--> Due to heavy rains in mining areas. it was a challenge to supply the required coal to the power plants. (Of course it is a short term blocker)
2) About imports:
--> Imports side there is a decline since pre pandemic time. Australia is one of the main country for coal exporter for our country. But due to environmental issues, this imports were reduced.
3) Future Alternatives:
--> At present we are depended on 68% on thermal power, which is a major contribution. It should be replaced with some other renewable power generation models.
--> Government already focusing on alternatives, but in implementation it will take some time, Like power generation from Solar, wind , tides, nuclear energy e.t.c
--> The most important thing is , not only generation, but also optimum utilization. Example Using LED lights (Ujala scheme designed for this purpose). Powering off the street lights on day time with automation. These are small steps , but when we think country wide it will impact more.

In my opinion the cess collected on petroleum and diesel could be used to subsidize the solar plates which will make them affordable to common man.. The other one is state government should provide incentives to people using solar power.. govt. Schemes such as PM-KUSUM must be implemented in proper terms 😊😊
Such system is already in place in Gujarat , where people using solar power gets benefits from the Govt
Kusum is very laggy. I tried to register but no otp came. and after a day it came then the registration is not happening. Some one doing trics and hacks so that normal person will face problems and force them to go towards setu agents.
The good thing is that we didn't lose all that coal overnight and just the mining was slow which Is a temporary situation .
Coal reserves, however, aren't permanent.

We should immediately embrace nuclear power. Renewables have a lot of shortcomings.. Nuclear power should be the bridge between fossil fuels and renewables.. We have proven technology in nuclear which is completely carbon neutral and quite safe also.. We should use nuclear power extensively until renewables are cheap and readily available.. Nuclear gets a very bad rep because when it goes wrong it goes wrong catastrophically.. But if made properly without cost cuts, idiotic management, Nuclear reactors are quite safe... Infect deaths per kWh of nuclear is quite less compared to fossils and renewables..

Actually the internet is heavily subsidized. Do you want it shut down? What is realistic pricing? Shouldn't it be free? What exactly are you paying for? All the effort of producing electricity is done by mother nature. Once properly set up, you need a skeleton maintenance crew. (OK, that's a bit much, but it is true in comparison to the work where labor is required to produce something, but for which you pay peanuts).

At that time they refused to purchase the coal even at half of the average price. Now this hue & cry is inevitable.

If I had my home with my own terrace/rooftop, I wouldn't have thought twice about installing solar panels, but sadly that's not the case. No building plan should be passed without solar power backup in place. Also, India has good reserves of thorium which can be used for nuclear energy generation 🙏🙏🙏
