I had a friend in Highschool who was falsely accused of rape he was 18 and she was 16. His whole family disowned him. He spend 3 months in jail waiting for the trail day, because he was 18 no money and couldn't make bail. During the trail she confessed to making it up, so her super religious family wouldn't be mad she wasn't a virgin. Side note for the girl her family is very extreme they disowned one of there kids for coming out gay. So I can feel for her a little bit. Long story short he was found innocent, charges dropped, record cleared. He got his GED and went into the military, never talked to his family or saw that town again. Nothing hurts more then your own family and friends turning on you.

Anyone under the influence of someone like that who cuts them out in the process of making amends gets a pass in my book, just like someone who had their drink spiked in my eye is totally not responsible for anything that occurs. A skilled manipulator can be worse for one's state of mind than any drug, and so long as they aren't apologizing for the manipulator or even keeping the manipulator in their lives, they get a (somewhat) free pass, so long as nothing similar ever happens again.

He had his life stolen from him, and he's being offered basically all of it back on a god damn silver platter. Everyone involved (except the step dad obviously) is doing everything in their power to fix what was broken. The story doesn't need to end in resentment, the story doesn't need to end in distant forgiveness. This experience broke everyone involved, and it's their choice if they want to pick up the pieces together or on their own. I just hope that they all know that though the relationship can be mended, it will never be the same. But that doesn't mean it can't be just as good. You can forgive. You can move past this incident. It doesn't have to be a looming specter for the rest of your life.

Brother is several times the man his father wishes he was. He realized what had happened and quickly took action to make things right, only needing a bit to process just what the hell he had discovered.
Also, props to OP for keeping his cool during the phonecall with the stepfather. I would have mocked the ever loving crap out of him for the comment about not being "man enough." Like he is in any position to talk about what it means to be a man. There's nothing manly about destroying a happy relationship.

I hate how the family turned against him

The family should be ashamed. Disowning him after taking the word of someone they don't know. Glad his brother did the right thing and I'm glad he didn't just instantly forgive his mother and ex and made them suffer. I do hope him and ex got back together but she has alot of making up to do and hope she realises what she almost lost.

Just letting everyone know who watches this that OP and his ex did NOT end up getting back together. He states it was due to different factors than what happened and he wishes her all the best. Fucking sad to imagine what could have been if the stepprick didn't interfere with what sounded like a lovely relationship.

I love how in mist stories where this happens, the OP forgives and forgets, but in this case, OP is only kind to those who helped him, like his step(brother), but to those who have wronged him, gets immediately gets the packgod treatment.

Since he is a private citizen, he could prove defimation pretty easily. especially with the call he had recorded.

I wouldn't get back with your x, people who think impulsively and don't even try getting the other side's don't deserve second chances in the relationship that they destroyed

This one, makes me frustrated to read, what kind of man destroy someone else happiness for someone else? Disgusting - and the family should of have been there more for OP. This persons manipulation damaged the family and he deserves what he gets.

It sucks everyone was willing to believe OP cheated but ex-SD pulled out all the works to manufacture that story, so it's hard to really hold it against them. Do kinda hope OP and the ex start seeing each other again, it sounds like they still get along, and she's still willing to tough it out which you don't find that often anymore.
