Will the BRCA save 1/10 touring cars

  • We are all about getting more people into RC car racing and it is great to meet people across the UK who thank our videos for getting them started in RC car racing.
For some 1/10 touring cars is considered a blue ribbon event but we are seeing a decline in this class with people opting for a more accessible level playing field in MTC and 1/10 frontie racing... is there anything the BRCA can do to help !!!
What is the future for RC car racing.
We are all about RC car racing but sometimes you have to have some fun
We take out the amazing Traxxas Raptor which is available here:

What puts me off, and many other people is when you go to a club, and they take it more serious that real car racing, they think it's some kind of big business and forget that its all about fun. Often swearing and shouting at marshalls and other racers. I've left a few clubs because of it and when new people come to see what it's all about they often never come back. No1 FUN winning is just a nice little bonus. We are geeky enough as it is without fully grown men arguing over little toy cars.

Completely agree. I love racing, but I’ve seen and experienced some entirely uncool behaviour from a few who have taken it too seriously.
I think a good way of dealing with that is to make a rule that if a person wants to take it that seriously they must wear full race overalls and crash helmet whilst on the rostrum, and make “neeeaaawwww” noises whilst driving their RC car. At all times.
      That’d sort it out.

I can see how, when spending £1000+ someone would get frustrated, but if the amount of money someone has put in is proportional to their tantrum frequency then perhaps the answer is bringing racing back to basics.
Really don't understand how someone can get sweary all for the sake of a pack of Haribos and a paper certificate. As you say, it's a hobby with toy cars - folk need to chill out and enjoy it!

needing all the latest and greatest gear all the time is also putting lots of people off. You have to spend £90 on a motor, £200 for an esc another £200 for lipos and then a fancey charger just to have a slow stock car. They should just get rid of motor limits and let you use whatever you like, then theres no advantage to those with deep pockets

I'm a grassroots club racer running in a small village hall on a wooden floor. Tough tight racing. A great club that's been around for years but is full and has a waiting list. the way to get new people racing is to get better access to venues at a reasonable price and for all racers to help put up and tare down and not leave it to the same people, too many people want to take without giving back.
great topics for discussion as usual boys.

RC needs to return to its grass roots, IMHO. I was away for about 20 years and a few things I've noticed (at least here in the US):
    - It seems like there's always one or more "big races" every month
    - Like someone else mentioned, you'd think people are competing for the Formula1 World title sometimes and not really enjoying themselves
    - Depending on where you go, some clubs do seem to suffer from a bit of "class overload"
As far as growing the hobby goes, it's up to us as people in the community to get our sons and daughters, nieces and nephews involved, even if it's casually. My daughter who is 10 has already told me that she has no desire to want to race her buggy, but she does enjoy driving it. My son, who is 5, is just beginning his RC journey, so there's still hope yet, lol.

I agree that the BRCA should make the 'stock' class an actual 'stock' class, like the fronties. I run a frontie, with Hobbywing Justock setup, and it's a really competitive class, especially running a 4.5FDR and 17.5K RPM limit, it levels the playing field. Although I'd like to see more 'stock' ESCs and motors allowed, maybe an approved list might be an idea. And as others have commented, some people take racing RC cars way too seriously, I try not to, but we all have odd moments where it gets the better of us and we shout at someone. At the end of the day RC racing is like any hobby or sport, you will always get those who want to win at all costs, and others, like myself, who win once in a while but do it for the LOL's. Going back to fronties, 3Racing have got the Cero Ultra which is around the £300 mark and by all accounts is superb, and they're just releasing the Cero Sport which is FRP and plastic, but will be about £100, and from what I've heard it is a fantastic chassis and very, very competitive, and I'll defo be getting one!

I’ve been looking at going racing, because of watching you guys. Now I doubt I can go that regularly so car investment is a tricky question. I’ve never raced so will probably be pretty crap! But as you get into it and improve your going to want have better stuff and there’s always going to be people with more money and better equipment . Then you’re going to be concerned about damaging your car because of the expense of repairs! So you reach your limit and commitment and that stops being fun. I know this because racing real cars is exactly the same. drivers with sponsorship and or money aren’t worried about damage as they have the resources to fix it, where as you constantly back out of situations where you may crash! And that’s not fun and you quit. So yes have high end racing but as you say the hobby must have bog standard cars too, so it’s just down to the driver because as things stand it’s making me think twice about getting into it! Great video guys keep out up

Generly the brca is run by the elite for the elite. they have the agm a million miles up north, no local voting or proposing. Its alsways felt like a tax for those that are happy just doing local club racing. Brca spend so much focus on national events.
It's no ones fault really, its just the way things often go.
Our local tt02 racing is very popular with kids and parents. Totaly off the radar of the brca. A parent turning up to a hardcore touring car race for the first time find it massively intimidating.

trouble is that most clubs don't have the space to build tracks for touring cars so they stick to 1/12 and buggies. Space is the problem. If you live in London, you have to travel at least an hour to get to the nearest track and most tracks within 2 hours are either tiny or have no facilities, so not very accessible to new members.

i found this hobby only a year ago and the difference it has made to my life is amazing! me and some friends have built a small track in local woodland like a bunch of kids lol but it's great fun. I am however desperate to find a small piece of land to build a permanent outdoor buggy track so i can get more people into the hobby. would love to be able to run really fun grassroots racing sessions as well as open track days with no timing, limits or anything restrictive of fun, that's what the hobby needs to get new and young blood into it. keep up the great work guys you'll get to 10k before you know it, then you can afford to get a new light ;)

You definitely need to try a FWD guys. I think you'll have more options for clubs to run one, and in terms of videos you'll always be able to run a TC and a FWD at the same club so content from both of you in the same trip. FWD is also a lot more chilled and the racing is close and more fun IMO. Tyres last forever, electronics are cheaper and theres no benefit to big batteries or replacing your electronics every other round as there is no advantage to it with controlled electronics. I think youd both love it!

Stock racing ( proper stock ) should always be available to try pull new people into the hobby but also it’s a driver vs driver then and not 🤔 F1 where it’s driver, cash and team. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a place for that too with ought a doubt but back to basics should be a thing.

costwise i don't see much difference with fronti. the only difference is 100 pound for the chassis but even a TC you can run as a funclass. it's a platform you can go any direction with. indoor/outdoor, GT touring, mod. stock....most versatil chassis there is. The main reason i think is that these days the chassis are to fast evolving and to keep up it's to expensive and it takes time to learn a new car. The cars are so damn expensive for handfull of carbon and aluminium/steel. Also modern touringcars need a lot of accessory parts and know how to run them consistent (for me it's what i look for in TC class) but it's very demanding. It needs a lot of time to practice setups, but it's time consuming. So people looking for a class that's more ready to run.
