From Modified and 13.5 turn brushless racing or stock racing in the 17.5 class which car will suit our needs.
The Tamiya TRF420x is the most expensive we looked at and most of the cars are over £500. but there are some cheaper options out there if you can find them.
The XRAY X4, Yokomo BD11, Schumacher Mi8,Team powers T3M and R3G and Marks favorite the Awesomatix.

Who remembers racing with the HPI RS4 with a Dodge Stratus body ?? I used to race touring cars in Ripon California Ripon RC speedway right around 2004 some of the best times ever 😁✌️ thinking about getting back into it they're still there!

Good stuff as usual chaps, and good to see you trying out some new TC's. Sounds like you've made your choice so good luck with the cars. Just wanted to give a mention about the Destiny cars too, sold by Zen Racing in the UK. I have their previous generation 4wd TC, and have been running their Frontie in the BRCA 2wd Nationals. Really nice cars and sit in the mid range price bracket. Their latest TC has recently been launched and comes in at a reasonable £465, and has all the modern features that you'd expect - Mid Motor, Ali and Carbon chassis versions, Carbon wishbones etc, etc, etc. Worth a look for anyone watching that is also looking for a new TC or Frontie.
Good luck, and hope to see you trackside sometime soon!

I am looking at getting into racing. Originally I was looking at 2wd buggy racing but it is expensive in Australia, after watching a bit of your channel I've decided to go with the Tamiya class TT 02 as I can get into racing a lot cheaper and as with the off road clubs my nearest club is still 1 hour away so that stays the same.

30 years ago I made the mistake of thinking more the car cost the better you would do. Now after a break of 30 years i am now enjoying my kamtech Mini leass than a £100 and it came with wheels and tires just shows more money you spend the better is always the way.

Love this. I went the same route. Have a tt01r and found it way too sloppy for onroad touring car. And on the recommendation from my RC club, I picked up a SNRC R3G. It's a much better car to drive and really good to learn on. We run them in a 21.5t class. Also, as a beginner learning about basic setup on this car is the same as the higher end chassis. Cheaper to fix crashes too.

I always thought the AE cars were really solid, as they have a long history in on road racing with many wins under their belt. Better said that on road racing was AE's bread and butter. It's a shame to not see AE coming out with new touring, F1, and pancar kits nowadays.

I'm making this journey a bit differently then you chaps. I started off bashing. I'm starting to go a little smaller so I can run it at a local track (1/10th,2S limit) so I'g going to be running an SCT. I've wanted a 911 GT3 forever and realized they are just out of my budget so a scale version might be a bit easier on the old wallet. I just pre-ordered the newly announced Tamiya 992 GT3. I started thinking, do I want to just roll with the body that came with the Tamiya but skip the TT-02 chassis and just mount it on a nicer chassis...like the Race-Opt you showed. It looks badass and seems to offer loads of tunability (not that I have any clue on how to do that yet). I am handy with a screwdriver and good with math and science stuff so I should be able to pickup a rudimentary skillset quick enough. Is this a good idea or have I been smoking the wacky tobaccy again?

    • @PopalongRC
      @PopalongRC  ปีที่แล้ว

We have done a lot of tamiya racing and the tt01 tt02 platform is a great way to get into club racing … it will depend on what they run at your local clubs as to what is best .
We do like it when the cars look like real cars … another reason why we like the iconic cup so much

Xpress also make the xq2s. Competitive chassis that comes in under 150 quid. Also can get a mid motor conversion. I’ve only had mine out once this year but a few choice upgrades and it should be a better car. Just have to make my driving match…. But the team powers cars look like a great budget option!

Agreed, I got a X2QS and it's great. Made a A final on my second outing with just a stiffer spring set and anti roll bars. I run the TT02 TYPE S. Keeps up with the 'proper' chassis albeit hard work.
I've got a TC4 FT from when I raced 15yr ago which would likely do far better, but scarcity of parts is one reason to not run it. The other is that it's great fun taunting someone who paid almost a grand when your set up cost less than 250 including electrics 🤣

Often you can buy a used “last years model” of the best touring cars very cheap in clubs. Some drivers always buys the latest and greatest (especially XRAY drivers as a new model comes every year) and sell their used car cheap. I would recommend that for a newbie 👍

Very interesting but do not forget the TRF420X contains two chassis (Ali and Carbon) where as the others contain only 1 chassis.
Plus if the big difference with 1/10th Tamiya will holds it value. Look at the TRF419XR, you can sell it for close to £600 now.
Best advice i could give is just buy last season car. All the drivers chasing lap time tend to get rid of their old cars - so you can pick up a second had one last season at half the price of a new car (not tamiya as they never get cheaper).

  • @tm5123

I think Xray and Awesomatix spare parts are noticably more expensive than Tamiya, so you'll probably not get to enjoy that difference in price for a long time if you start racing. Not that it matters, as tamiya is pretty much out of the racing scene, I think its mostly xray and awesomatix out there on the top. I'll have to agree with the popalong crew about the cheaper cars too, theres not much advantage in buying a high end touring car, if you're not good enough. Good driving lines etc, will bring you a lot better times on the track, than an expensive car. Get the top end models once you start to get closer to the fast drivers in lap times with your economy model. I bought a TRF420 on discount at a store for 280€. Still havent put it together. I'm kinda enjoying my TT02sr and truck racing at the moment.
