The reason it didn't thicken is because cornstarch needs to be brought to certain temp to activate. Just bring it to a boil for a couple of minutes, and it will thicken. It doesn't take long.
This looks delicious to me! I’ve never flavored this combination this way but why not? It’s meat, potatoes and veggies! My husband is all for it, asked my son also he’s like “yep!” Yes thicker would be preferable but lots of good comments here on doing that. Thank you Justine, Happy Labor Day! 🌹♥️🥰🇺🇸

When it's been in the 80s and suddenly it drops down to 50s all day and low in 40s at night then yes it feels like Fall is here early in August! Even though we're used to alot colder in WA state.. but at the first cool down you feel it. I have Alaskan friends say the same thing.
Happy Labor Day 🇺🇸! Don't worry if it didn't thicken enough. I love to dip buttered bread in mine and any leftovers tomorrow will thicken if you reheat it in the microwave. That's actually how you can do it next time if you like. Simply put your cornstarch in your cold water and then add a little broth to it and microwave it for a minute or so then mix it into the rest of your stew. It makes it a little easier to control that way you don't use too much. 😊❤
Great job, Justine! Don't pay any attention to bullies. Some people thrive on being mean and critizing others. I guess it makes them feel big and important.
Be kind! Sometimes i take some of the cooked liquid out, let it coil, mix the cornstarch in really well until lumps disappear, and then add that to the pot. You do really well, and you will learn more as you cook more. This looks great for fall. I can't wait to start making soups and stews!
I have found that the tomato will pickle the beef and keep it from cooking to soft shredded beef. I add the tomato, potatoes and carrots until after the beef is thoroughly cooked in a cup of water with onion and celery. The potatoes and carrots will add enough rye if you cook them long enough. Then your stew can be gluten free. I would use gluten free taco season. These thoroughly cooked ingredients over gluten free corn bread are preferred by my family.
If you get Rotel it's an easy way of adding tomatoes to any type of stew or sauce. Believe you made with the prices of groceries nowadays you got to do all kinds of stuff.
@@michellewilson6249 I have made a delicious beef stew, at first I thought that it wasn’t cooking at all but then when the time was up it came out perfect

Oh Justine!!! You did it again! Lol Got my curiosity going with the taco seasoning so guess what I'm making for dinner tonight?! 😅 Hope you're having the happiest New Year!! 🥳🥳🥳 Thanks for all your recipes. I've tried a lot of them and they're pretty tasty!! 🥰
The amount of beef broth would determine the amount of corn starch I feel 1 to 2 tablespoons with the stirring a little longer to get the mixture all over and gone about 20 minutes without stirring until you ready to serve just my opinion of course
Not only does cornstarch need to reach boiling point but you need more than a tablespoon for this amount of liquid.. If it doesn't boil you are stuck with thin liquid and a floury taste. Basic lack of knowledge 😢.

Stew? I'm not so sure about that, the liquid (thin and watery at that) to solids ratio leads me to say this is soup. Also, I suggest searing the meat, it adds flavor and seals the juices in...that and looks better.

After you add the starch, it has to come to a full on boil to thicken!!
