- CARMAX DISASTER Signals COLLAPSE Of The Car Market!
In this video we talk about CARMAX. I take you to CarMax's lot and show you just how full it is and how expensive their cars are. It's clear that CarMax is in trouble and their prices aren't sustainable! I also talk about what this mean for the car market as a whole.
My name is Brandon and I am a used car dealer. I created Car Questions Answered to share the ins and outs of the used car market from my perspective. I share with you updates on car prices, what's happening at the dealer auctions, and what it's like being a dealer. My goal is to share information to help you make the best decisions while buying a car to save you money. I do not want car dealers taking advantage of you.

People that traded cars in every three years are now keeping them ten. The car industry got greedy and screwed themselves.
The tech from a 4 year old is pretty current. The new tech is all about one huge digital panel. One shorted fuse and you are done.
@@eseir64and then they added the subscription fee to use the screen. That is my personal breaking point.
Only ten? I've had my car for 25 years now and its still going strong. I just fix stuff when it breaks and perform the maintenance and don't beat the heck out of it when I drive. Zero speeding tickets and zero collisions with maintenance and proper car can make a car last a really long time.
@@DWebOscarthey also report your driving history to insurance companies now through the in vehicle telemetry, no thx ill keep my 2017
Keeping it for a long time is the only solid plan anyway. Trading card after 3 years is throwing money in the garbage can.
It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside that CarMax , manufacturers and Dealers are starting to suffer but there is a long way to go before we as consumers are satisfied with the pricing of these vehicles !
I don't understand if Carmax is selling at a rate of 5% less, why are they buying more from dealers? Wtf
You have to remember that it takes it two to tango in any car deal, and the general buyer also had a hand in causing problem. They all caved just like they did during Covid wearing those stupid masks and all laid down and paid the prices! And, here we are!
You’ll be feeling extra warm and fuzzy when the government bailouts funnel billions of tax dollars into mega corporations to “save” them. This is all by design of course. We are economic cattle for the whims of sociopaths.
I agree. The only way price comes down is with price rejection. I don't like paying 18 dollars for a Big Mac so I don't buy them anymore. They get them back down to the 5 dollar range ... I might start buying them again. This holds true for houses, cars, etc. This isi the exact reason we buy when people are selling and selling wizen people are buying. Rich folks have figure this out a long time ago. I ask people all the time.. you compalin about buying things but you are part of the problem. Stop buying that over price ... whatever. Enough of us do this... price will come down. We are starting to see that in the car and housing markets. But it has just started. It will accelerate and might last for years. Deflation is one of the dirtiest words in capitalistic debt based system. If you are rich you DO NOT want deflation... you want inflation. If you are poor or middle class you absolutly want deflation. The end of the GFC was the prime time to buy residential houses. Not right before it ... when it was apparent we were in a bubble. Just like we are in now.
China is about to pounce on super cheap cars and will decimate the American market.
That Raptor, Shelby, and Vette have no price because you have to sign a medical waiver before Carmax will show you those prices.
Good 1
I thought it was because they keep a defibrillator in the office.
"Did you sign the waiver and bring the required change of underwear?"
"Yes"
"Ok, the buy-it-now price, before tax, title, dealers fees, destination charge, and dealers member lube fee is..."
Lol@@UmmmmmmmWhat
That's one option. If you follow the signs that say "defibrillator" to end of the yard, the prices are posted there. No medical waiver required, but you must be accompanied by someone who is a holder of a current first aid certificate.
Dudes done this video like 20 times already. Nothing changes.
Yep, "Car Market Is Gonna Crash Real Soon" videos have been going for like two years now.
@@james-pBingo. I tune in just for giggles, the dealers around me have a good supply and they don’t seem to be lowering prices, I’m in the market for a newer used truck and prices are insane. But they are not calling me back with good news on price reduction. Stats don’t mean anything and dealers are not closing anytime soon or having a fire sale
He’s been milking this for 2 years…he’s become a used car grifter
it reminds me of those videos that said China was going to collapse. Still waiting...
He’s talking about leading measures… y’all are expecting lagging measures
Those car prices are crazy, will stand by on the sidelines for now and just keep repairing my current car.
If you can turn a wrench it's a no brainer... I got to put a lift in
In Europe they're trying to pass a law to make it illegal to repair a car older than 15 years
Keep looking out for a private seller. It’ll take some time, but you’ll eventually find a deal. I just did after a few months.
I literally bought a 20 year old Acura TL 6 speed as a backup daily driver for $4k in case I wear out my current daily driver in the meantime. I've bought new cars before and still own an E46 M3 too, but that's all I'm willing to spend in the car market until sanity returns.
Seriously!?@@nickprioletti7221
They destroyed American trucks and then jacked the price 2.5x in 5 years...that always works out real well for big ticket items...
Isnt that crasy!!
i keep seeing older trucks on the road more often now.
I myself have an 06 Silverado that i will never let go. The last of the greatest trucks.
They didn't increase the prices of American trucks by 250%.
@@hochhaul ... I was shopping for a truck real time in 2020 through 2022... Trucks that msrp'd for $38,000 were $66,000 at the dealer 18 months later and then $90,000+... They're back down to about $80,000 now... So yes they did.
We need the old 2002 Ford Rangers back
Average price drop at Carmax in the last year was $600? I'll think about buying when it's $6000.
The FED yesterday said, they will not be cutting rates anytime soon. Remember when they said inflation was only “transitory”?
Remember that they also said they would be cutting rates more than once this year yeah.....
You believed them? Guess what! The “FED” is private.
Economy too hot. Fed thought it was going to slow, for years now everyone says economy is going to slow in 6 months
@@blur02because they haven’t stopped printing money. Inflation will remain as long as the federal reserve exists.
Remember when the fed didnt exist.
I have contacted a good many car dealers about a new car purchase recently. Sorry, but they have their heels dug in and are holding prices high. They also have many greedy fees that tack on a good 7k to 10k on the suggested retail price of the car. I'll just keep my current car.
“Desert Protection Package”
Window tint in front two windows, UV resistant wax, scotch guard on seats, door edge guard.
$3,500 markup on a $25,000 car.
I literally laughed in their faces
Remember the housing bubble ? The car market will burst. Just be patient and wait for it
Try different brand
So true! Been to five different dealers in the last 2 weeks! Still tacking on this ridiculous add ins and above MSRP
wait until you have to do service lol
Stopped at a local CarMax about a month ago for a test drive. They put me on a waiting list and had me sit in the lobby for about 20-30min before I got up and left. It's like they didn't even want to sell me a car.
good for you
Car salesman are losers
post a review online, people post reviews for bad dealers. they manipulate reviews on google - fight back
WOW
That is a sales teckniques. They have you sitting there or walking around the lobby looking at the cars up front. It's the same reason it seems to take forever to negotiate a price and get through financing at a dealer. It's a way of wearing you mentally and physically down. So in the end you may agree to that higher payment. Oh it's only 15 dollars more a month for a rust treatment or some other aftermarket add on.
Carmax KMX closed at 68.53 today. The stock price does not come close to reflecting the trouble that this company is in.
It will when they go bankrupt.
Which means selling the stock short is a bargain. Carpe diem!
You have no idea how much I agree with you. If I was not all in... massively short already and had any dry powder left, I would short it or buy puts right here right now. The car market is going to drop like a rock. Folks that understand this are going to get a 65k for 30k or even less and of course this is a forward indicator on what is going to happen to the commercial and residential real estate market. There is going to massive opportunities for those who know how to take advantage of them... of course we always use stop loss orders to define our risk. Not every trade work in our favor. We don't need them to as long as we cut our losses quick and let or winner run. I think the car market is going to fall for years.... not months. I will let the charts tell me what to do.
That's why their prices are so high 😂
$600 won't cut it. Carmax is consistently $5000 above market for most cars. Some of those trucks are 10-20k above market. They're going to take a haircut.
No they are going to get a buzz cut
Whats taking so long to fall .....
Prices go up quickly but they go down slowly. It's always this way. Dealer lots in my area are overflowing with stock.
Greed.
Biden
Greed
Socialism and 'election' year corruption.
They should sell all their used cars at higher than new car prices ...
solid plan
And sell them to people with sub-prime credit scores, just to be sure that everything will go great!
They were famous for paying stupid amounts for used cars.
Works for Tesla,,,, unfortunately.
Check the tires on cars at carmax they are deterioriating from not moving
Definitely gonna have flat spots
This is one of those guys who talk and talk without ever really saying anything.
once you sell cars you are always selling your mouth as its permanent. try getting into an argument with someone like this. next phase lawyer.
Found the car salesman
I remember back in like 2020 or something, after watching one of these “the car industry is crashing videos” I went to my local dealer and gave them a hard core lowball offer for a car I liked, the sales manager was an old boxer and said, “man, You coming in here and throwing uppercuts and not even starting out with small jabs or anything?!” No deal that day😆
You stuned the the ol geezer by coming out with the left and right hooks at the same time 😅
😂😂😂😂😂
That’s the Mike Tyson style of car buying. Give them your phone number and leave and they’ll be calling soon.
Well, if he didn't make a somewhat reasonable counter offer - then you did not waste all your time playing their games for nothing.
Why spend several hours in a process that should take 15 minutes to get an OTD price agreement? Of course, reading and signing all the paperwork will add another 30 minutes or so to the time.
What they do not appear to understand is that I do NOT need a replacement vehicle. So they have satisfy me to make a sale - not convince me to agree to the high profit that they want.
Shorted their stock when it was $86 now its 69 good times :D
Good call
69.... nice! ;-)

Every video this guys puts out says one manufacturer or dealers or another’s world is ending. They’re still there…
Chryslers full line is a Minivan and an old car about to be discontinued. If they weren’t getting money from Stellantis HQ in Amsterdam they’d be toast by now.

Yes he does, also his buddies Zach and Ray do the exact same thing .. But we all click on so.
There ain't going to collapse this year or even next year, we just import 5,000 illegals a day to fill in the gaps anyway possible. It's happening folks.
They would rather die than give customers a deal. No other dealers.
Meant to say Not sell to other dealers.
that's fine we will wait for chapter 11 and then buy them when they get liquidated
Carmax wants $28k for a 2024 Kia Seltos EX with 8k miles on it. I found one on Cargurus same year for $25,700 with 1000 miles on it. Carmax is just not competitive.
That’s what I thought until I went to the dealer to buy the $3k cheaper car. They tried to charge $3k for a “reconditioning fee”.
They want any rich dummy to go and buy with no questions ask and you better make sure you thank carmax for the privilege of being taken advantage. That’s what salesman think of anybody who walks through that door already sizing you up for the shakedown
They do the no haggle approach, which means you get shafted with no lube and you'll be happy about it.
@@AlphanumericCharactersYep, that’s what they do. You have to read their disclaimers before you go there or call inquiring about a vehicle you AREN’T interested in to go get the full list of what additional fees they will add on.
I got my Hyundai Kona SEL brand new for 25k and got a great deal on my trade at my local Hyundai dealership. I LOVE the 2024 Kona!
4:44 That 2024 BMW M2 with 1,000 miles for $71,998 sells new from the dealer for $64,195.
Lol
CarMax is trying to hose people. That car will sit there for a long long time. Fine by me.
@@RD-ce6bb I'm wondering if there's something else going on, such as whether is Carmax buying at retail from dealerships? If so, there's a MUCH bigger problem and perhaps crime going on.
Repo
@@akane742 1k miles ain’t a repo, that’s about a month of driving
I just bought a brand new 2024 Civic Sport Hatch MT6 for $26,800, including doc fee, but not including taxes/government fees.
I see a local CarMax listing for basically the same thing, 2023 with 16k miles, for $29,200, including doc fee.
That is $800 MORE than new car's MSRP+doc fee, even considering CarMax charges $300 less doc fee!!! On a new car, I was able to negotiate, but CarMax? (shrug)
You've got to be missing a few screws somewhere to be buying the used one from CarMax for MORE MONEY than a brand new one!
I love it. The car market has collapsed like 37 times a day for the last year according to videos on youtube. Yet no one is going out of business and dealers aren't drastically marking down vehicles and manufacturers are still cranking out inventory.
One thing is true repos are hitting record highs, repo recon lots are bricked wall to wall. Something’s gotta give, if not today one day someday soon.
Remember, carmax is circuit city. How’d they end up?
Great analogy!🤭
@@RareGenXer it's not an analogy. Carmax first started as Circuit City.

Yeah shifting into higher priced vehicles, them offering more your vehicle means they don’t have enough inventory and will take anything they can get, if they barely offer a decent price for your trade in it means they have too much inventory mate
The car market hasn't crashed yet, it just getting started. It's going to be a bloodbath... They have nearly 2 years of overpriced inventory. I'm thinking that dealers may end up eating a 50% discount on their inventories, maybe even more.
Oops, you used bloodbath, correctly
Those prices are ridiculous… the market will crash and they can only blame themselves, they created that situation
@@ShotgunWizard more than likely it will not crash, prices might return to pre pandi but that’s not a crash that’s just the market readjusting.
A collapse would be prices being more than 20% less than what they were in 2019.
Prices for most vehicles are still above 2019 prices….especially trucks and SUVs which are still about 10k - 30k above what they were in 2019 even with the recent “discounts” and incentives
😂😂😂😂
@@ShotgunWizarddon’t be fooled when they say prices have reduced by record amounts because prices increased by higher record prices.
If prices aren’t lower than 2019 then it’s NOT really a discount and much less a collapse
It's almost like nobody wants to sell cars.
I'm guessing it is like business rent prices in New York City. If they drop prices, their official (not actual) lot value will drop, and people they do business with, like banks, will panic.
Simple they bought high and don’t want to sell low. At best they want to break out even. So they are gambling on just holding it.
No, they don’t. If they can’t scam some sucker, they’d rather let it go to auction or Carmax instead of actually give a consumer a real discount.
Classic failing restaurant behavior. Up the menu prices when nobody likes the food. Some folks just don’t get it. Ever..
This will end horribly. That’s when you buy. 😂😂😂
I worked at a CarMax for a year. My store mainly dealt with poor credit clientele. The cars were overpriced to begin with and many were financed @ 28.5% for 72 months. That should be criminal IMO. If nothing else it’s just stupid. Every car I sold under those conditions took a piece of my soul with it. I just couldn’t do it anymore so I quit. My manager tried to talk me into staying by explaining people need a car to get to work to feed their children and they likely could not get approved anywhere else. He said “at the end of the day, they are the ones signing the contract”. That didn’t help, I walked off the job that day, no two week notice. Only place worse than CarMax is JD Byrider 😆
Good for you! Thank you for understanding what humanity is and being blessed by God not to sell your soul for so little! This system would not be functioning without willing participants who no longer have a conscience.
There greed caught up with them. Maybe they will realize that people can't afford there high prices.😢 Most people don't make 100's of thousands a year. People have house payments and kids and food and whatever happens in a normal life.
their
Salesperson to customer, whadooya mean the cars too high prices, just feeding your kids twice a day and you will be able to afford the car payment by the 28th of the month 😅
I love Carmax for window shopping. Can get in a lot of different cars to get an idea what you like. But their prices? Insane!
The reason they're able to do this is because even regular dealerships haven't been selling at MSRP. Delearships have been adding on thousands!
Exactly, the local toyota dealers tried to rip me off with a used rav 4. They had vehicles with basic trim levels going for $5 to $10 more than carmax.
And those same dealers offered $8k less fory corolla than car max.
My local Toyota is charging way more than 3 years ago, but dealer incentives are only $300-700. That's not a discount.
The auto industry needs overhauled.
For me, the 25 year Import rule and the Chicken Tax for light trucks or so, HAS TO GO, NOWWWW.
The weird thing is, that's what Carmax, Carvana, ... were supposed to do.

They painted it themselves
Exactly, if it was just cars blowing up in price I bet people would still buy. However, food, housing, gas, insurance is outrageous. We're all broke now, just trying to survive.

Even though I have no love for car dealers or Carmax, this price inversion really is scary. The longer these companies delay their haircuts, the shorter it's gonna be.
I'm finding the same price on new 3/4 ton trucks today as I did last year. Where are the desparate dealers with all the floor plans they cant pay for. Not seeing these desparate dealer pricing in Texas.
Still plenty of idiots buying at these insane prices because "truck." I work with a few of them.
Texas is a rich person’s state like CA and FL, so I would think the market would be different.
I live right across the street from a carmax here in Dallas. They aren’t selling squat. I literally see the same cars in the same spots for months.

The EV side will be interesting as people don't want them for the limited range and time to energize up.
Carmax has to dramatically lower their prices. If you’re going to be no haggle they have to be on the lower end of the price range.

The rx350 you have is known to have problems that were straightened out with the refresh of that generation and that's why a 2013 to 2015 holds it's value so well. The 2007-2009 are the best buy for the price as long as the oil cooler lines are replaced.
Sky high inflation, new car loan rates starting at 7% for prime and go to 14% for sub prime, used car loans start at 10% for prime and quickly move to 22% for sub prime (poor credit). Never went back, ever.
Last time I drove past Carmax lot it was offerflowing but yesterday drove by my carmax un Tyler Texas, was almost empty (humm)
Check the parking lots by the airports and ports. You can see cars across the horizon. They would rather ship these to Africa and sell them for freight cost than sell them in the US and rob themselves of a high dollar rip off.
They'll even scrap these brand new vehicles before discounting them. Watch the 2023 model years go missing.
They have dealer only auctions, so yeah, they can disappear quickly after auction days.
They dumped them all at auction 😂
It depends on the day of the week
Watching some car reviews of the new this and the new that . We are talking $60K ++++ for a new ToyoRunner. or close to $50K for a Honda Pilot. Insane. Easily a $800 monthly payment for most for what you used to be half that. Who is buying these things? This is why I always buy a 2 to 3 year vehicle where the first owner took the 30 to 40% hit.

this has been happening in canada since the chip shortage, it's still happening now, used cars are more than new, even when there's new in stock
The prices aren't falling at the dealers very much yet because they know they will be making deeper and deeper cuts and it will snowball out of control.
The dealers both new and used will soon be dumping their stock.
They just don't want to tip off the fee remaining buyers that they are buying before a crash.
stopped by my local Ford dealership... they had FOUR repossessed 2023 3/4 diesel trucks... 2 chevys and 2 rams and all four had less than 20k miles on them...

Local Carmax just got in a 2024 M2 that they are selling for $69,997 with 4,000 miles, for that money I want a car nobody has driven.
I figure they bought it from the BMW dealership in Saint Petersburg that has been unable to sell a couple of 2023 M240i for a year and a half cause they are asking $53k for them and they have been sitting on the lot for a long long time. If they had been reasonable I would have taken a look at them.

It's a liberal policy car market. How are you liking those gas and food prices?
if i had a 73,000 vehicle, id have to live in it lol
I have already noticed used car prices dropping. I need a new car.
Totaled my full sized truck hitting a family of deer. 10 years ago I found out I couldn't afford a new truck payment not even a used truck payment. So I had to go with a small mini truck, not Ideal for the hauling I need it for. Luckily my Dad could still afford the prices and gave me a stellar deal on his full sized truck. I traded that small truck for an economy car been rocking that on my commutes to save money. I'd hate to see what trucks cost nowadays.
Maybe CarMax see the writing on the wall folks aren't buy EV's when they find out the batteries aren't under warranty anymore and insurance companies are up charging the policy holders because the possibilities of them catching on fire in the garage while charging them up.
Why do you think the cfo and ceo dumped a lot of there stock a year and half ago. They new this was coming.
I was listening to Danielle di martino booth. She said Americans are settling their cars on fire to get out of the payments.
I work at a carmax as a truck driver and I used to do FQC (washing cars and stickering them, putting them out front) and if I remember correctly the lack of a price is because they haven’t decided what to put the price at yet or there may be an issue with the title. I’ve printed off a few of those no price stickers for several vehicles, even as cheap as little hondas or chevys
3:24 2 months ago, a buddy of mine bought a 2012 Raptor SVT from a private seller. Yes SVT. 6.2L of fury.
Besides some scratches on the drivers door it is immaculate.
it has *41,000* miles on it.
he paid *$22,000*, cash.
… there is hope.
We are broke and have no credit.
Save your money and build your credit, like every generation before you.

Because of theses insane prices, I think people are figuring out that cars have become a rip off. We sold our second car and carpool.
All of our local new car lots here in Cookeville, TN which are smaller dealers are OVERFLOWING with inventory.
How many signals of the car market collapse can there be before it actually happens... 🤔😂
Cash is King times are coming ))
More like silver and gold is king times coming.
The dollar will lose being king of the hill. Use it while you can and exchange extra dollars for gold and silver.
Gold silver all the way

Walked through a carmax once. The lobby was full and folks were buying. Only deal worth the money was a fleet ford taurus.
Cars are making less and less sense every day. The costs of new and even used vehicles are starting to outstrip the benefits. Insurance, thefts, gas, and skyrocketing maintenance are just out of control.
It's our debt. Our debt keeps us from investment. We owe 36 trillion dollars. Our debt on our interest payment will be 1.6 trillion this year.
It's not technically "our" debt. It's our grandchildren's debt.
It's all fake. Starting right from the day the Federal Reserve was created. It's a number. It's not "our" debt. It's the "debt" that the tribe from the land east of Egypt created to enslave us.

I bought a 2018 civic in Jan 2019 for 22k. It’s got a manual transmission. I’ll drive it til the wheels fall off.
Anyone who buys a car now is either desperate or clueless.
I doubt we will ever get back to pre covid/Biden prices.
Now is a good time to buy a new car and trade in. Invoice pricing is returning, and lots of interest rate deals, but still decent trade in values.
@@MattPSU02 If you have to finance a car on more than 3% interest it is nothing you should ever be doing, why would anyone need a brand new vehicle in the first place? If you have to finace it, that means you cant afford it and are not in a place where you should consider a new vehicle.
I saw a Carvana truck with a I'm pretty sure was a repo Charger. It had the signs.....
It all depends on where you live with respect to new vehicles. I bought a new truck and got a great deal and noted they had dozens in stock-calculated their profit w/o the add-ons and made an offer; accepted and said they could remove the extras but its too time consuming to do so There is a segment of the population that are still buying new (like me) so dealer desperation has not kicked in yet.
Who would by a car from these rip-off over priced swindlers? The worst!
big TV Screens should be outlawed
on the Dash
They're technically not TV screens since they don't function as visual entertainment afik. They're just control panels.
There's no price on the higher end cars because they want you to be inside closer to the AED when they reveal the price.
Can you touch on work vehicles like splinter vans. And cargo vans. Work vehicles in general
