  • Wild camping in winter is my favourite time of year to be out especially in the Cairngorms national park.
This film blog is dedicated to 'Jim Robertson' the gentleman mentioned in my film who went missing and sadly passed away.
Jim's daughter has also setup a fundraiser page at the link below to raise funds for the 'Braemar Mountain Rescue' and would ask you help support them or your own local MR team if you can. Many thanks.

Set off for a wild camping trip in the 'Southern Cairngorms'in Scotland. Walked around the area of Bob Scott’s Bothy taking in the scenery. Film covers the mobilisation of the ‘Braemar Mountain Rescue’.
One of the reasons for making the film was to show the work our Mountain Rescue teams in the UK do, often in difficult and dangerous circumstances to help us when things go wrong.
The ‘Braemar Team’ showed amazing professionalism and dedication that I was lucky to film on the day.
That evening I was able to spend a few hours meeting seven like minded hill walkers who I had a great time chatting to and sharing stories. Was also able to try my 'Trekkertent Edge 2' out for the first time in the wilds and it performed great and had a good nights sleep. Really enjoyed my first visit to the Cairngorms wild camping and it will certainly not be my last.
However I forgot to bring my extra memory cards so missed the footage of the tent and evening in the Bothy. Wont forget next time!
As always thanks for watching and if you enjoyed my film please remember to like and support me by subscribing. Atb Ray

Excellent again mate. Beautiful scenes and great filming. The bothy looked great I bet it was hard to leave. Nice wee tent too. Great pitch you found. Shame about the memory cards. I was getting right into it lol. Do you know if they found the missing walker? Hope so. They do great work the MR
Keep them coming my friend. Atb for now. Andy.

+Andy “RAINMAN” Wardle Thanks Andy. The bothy was great and later in the evening with the fire roaring it was a great laugh. Was actually glad in a way to get out into the cold as it was too hot. Great walk with some fantastic spots to camp amongst the old pine trees. Sadly the guy is still missing and the MR are still searching every day. ATB RS.

I think everyone has said it brilliantly. An epic region and well presented and super crisp video for all of us to enjoy. It's simply an awe inspiring place and awe is good for our well being. Thanks for making us feel better about the world once more although the missing walker is a reminder that it doesn't always go to plane. Great stuff! All the best. Mark.

Thanks Mark. Love the cairngorms but it is a very unforgiving place and need to take a lot of care and be prepared. Even then bad luck or bad health can have an impact.Like may latest Cairngorms film I got myself off the tops as soon as the weather turned for the worst. Plenty more days to go back and try again, like yesterday. Just got back this morning after finally getting up the Munro 'Derry Cairngorm' so film in the making. Thanks for watching and Atb, Ray.

Renegade Scot Hi Ray - pleasure to watch, your right of course...these mountains and areas can be underestimated in the UK. Oh it's only the UK people think...but they are serious environments yet amazing and wonderful as you demonstrate. Good to hear you summit-ed that munro I suspect the video is magic. Really look forward to that..Any way, have a superb week. Mark.

Done 'Ben Vorlich' on Monday that I am just uploading that was fantastic due to the weather. The bothy was great and will be back soon. Need to get more summit camps done! ATB RS.

Your work just keeps getting better and better. We've never trekked in the Cairngorms, but your super film has given us some incentive to make Scotland one of our must do places in the near future. Excellent work, well done! Martin and Sharron, Purple Peak Adventures, Ireland

If you check out the film I done with the wife called 'Cairngorms Whistlestop Tour' we stayed at campsite in Aviemore and visited the youth hostel for food. This would be a good starting point. In regards to walks there are so mnay as itis a vast place. Recommend you look on Walking highlands website at link below as it has lots of routes and route maps of diffrent distances and times. Also lots of trip reports from people with photogrpahs. www.walkhighlands.co.uk/cairngorms/aviemore.shtml

Subscribed. Good video. I love the Cairngorms and have fancied that bit close to Bob Scott's for a hammock camp for a while. I agree about the area being amazing in the winter. Quite sobering to have seen the note in the Bothy and the mountain rescue though. Atb, Gordon.

+Stormcrafter Thanks Gordon. It has some great spots for hammocks. Have thought about maybe trying out the hammock camping myself at some point. ATB RS.

Its one thing to go out hiking in an area of stunning beauty, its another to be able to capture it for all to see. Ray this film tells me that you have a special gift.I hope all is well with the person who was lost, superb film, God bless you mate as you enjoy your hobby

    • @RS.Outdoors
      @RS.Outdoors  8 ปีที่แล้ว

+savedpurplecat Thanks mate. Very kind words, but just try to film as I see the trip. Just been lucky with weather and scenery to be honest. Maybe out again in Gorm's this weekend to do another section if the weather is ok. Still trying to learn the best format, music, talking, etc. How much of this and that to keep it interesting and worth watching. Another thing the film shows is how quick the weather was changing. Blue sky one minute and blizzard the next. Can be a very scary place if unprepared. ATB RS.
