Thanks. Honestly, the specific boat helps a lot. I've surfed my other kayak, the Dagger Stratos, for the last five surf sessions. As much as I like the Stratos overall, I can immediately feel the difference with the Sterling Progression in the surf zone. Much lighter and much more agile because of the carbon fiber hull (as compared to the RM plastic Stratos hull) and much more manueverable and responsive because of the "banana" shaped rocker. I hang on to the Stratos because it is a puncture proof hull for rock gardening. But the Sterling is, for me, the ultimate surf boat. I just have to add on a "downwind" surf boat in the future!
@@singmoy I believe once we are used to carbon fibre or even just fibreglass it is hard to go to a RM plastic unless you paddle over reef/rocks. I have only one kayak left in RM plastic that I keep for fitness paddle on rough sea. If it is flat water it is very boring. I just got an old Fenn XT and I am quite happy with its compromise speed/stability. I have it in fibreglass version and would love a carbon version naturally!! Just looking at the Sterling you can tell it is a sharp kayak.
@@kayakintro What's a good beginner composite ski? I saw a preowned Epic V8 last year for $2k, mulled it and then let it passed. In hindsight, it might have been a good deal but I wasn't sure whether I would be able to take on a V8 as a new rider or not.
@ I think you would be absolutely fine on a V8! If I remember well the second (and current) generation is from 2016? The second generation has the handles inside the cockpit which is easier for carrying it. I did notice some good sea kayakers struggling on surfskis because of the lack of knee braces. When you paddle a surfski you keep pushing your feet onto the footplate so your balance comes from your feet, back and the paddle. A kind of a tripod 😊 The V8Pro is great too but the V8 or V9 are better if it’s for playing in the waves. The V8Pro or the V10L don’t have much rocker and are more for flat water where they are fast. The Fenn Bluefin and XTS are great surfers too. Same with the Carbonology Sport Boost LV.
Some big waves and superb control!! 👏
