Hey, I am just an old dude who likes the stoke and adrenaline rush of riding waves. Unlike 99.9% of the surfers at my homebreak, I do my surfing with a double bladed paddle while sitting down -- on a waveski, in a surf kayak, or sea kayak. Given that I am old enough to be their dad, if not granddad, most of the locals give this "old kook" a pass, especially since I am a stickler for surf etiquette and I can control my ride enough to not run anyone over. At least not yet...

5-6' swells with 11 second period, stacked by a 11-15 knot offshore wind, courtesy of a no-named ocean storm in the Gulf of Maine. A challenging paddle out with wave smacks to the chest and face and multiple push backs. Was at the limit with my current physical conditioning. Took over 9 minutes to get from shore to the outside of the impact zone. Caught two and a half rides and called it a sess...

Just tiny, 2.5' waves in the 6 seconds range, but clean with an offshore wind. Good practice before onset of cold weather paddle surfing!

Passing cold front stirred up some sloppy, choppy wind waves in 3' plus range, with short intervals of 5-6 seconds. Not great for long rides, but good for practice of brace, rolls, etc. Took the opportunity to get more ready for New England's nor'easter swells in the coming months.

Pass Cold Front and offshore disturbance generated a short window of 3' plus swells @ 12 seconds with 15 knot offshore wind. Perfect conditions, but only for a day. Mahalo!

Local offshore fish storm produced 4.5' plus wind swells. Sunny skies and slight offshore wind produced beautiful conditions. Enjoyed with others a "surfers' delight!"

5' plus swells from a no-name fish storm. Diagonal onshore winds mushed the waves. Still a fun session.
Off Shore Reef Session - Cobra ReVision SOT Kayak - 9/8/24

4-5' swells at 11-12 second intervals. Offshore (westerly) winds of 17-23 knots. Had to really work to catch a wave. Got blown over the back of the wave whenever I let up on the sprint! The rides were worth the effort!

February Warm Up - sunny skies, mid 50 air temp. 3.5-4' swells at 11-12 second intervals. Pretty crowded line up for a mid winter surf session. Paddle way down the beach break to get some space and solitude! Good session with the Sterling Progression. -Mahalo!

Post winter storm waves - 3-4' @ 11 second intervals. The strong offshore wind made wave catching challenging. Got blown back over the wavetops quite a bit, especially when trying for diagonal runs. No SUPers out because of the wind. The few longboarders mentioned having a tough time dropping into the waves. The one boogie boarder seemed to have an "easier" time catching the waves.
