  • By the late 1960s, the Brazilian M3 Stuarts were worn out and needed to undergo extensive maintenance. With the US fighting in Vietnam, the availability of cheap and modern vehicles was drastically reduced for countries like Brazil. Due to the amount of M3 Stuarts available in Brazilian stocks, the ease of maintenance, low operational costs, the strategic benefit of light tanks in the South American terrain in the case of war with Brazil’s neighboring countries, and the aforementioned US involvement in the Vietnam War, Brazil did not only extensively maintained the Stuarts, but later selected them for extensive modernization which would become the X1.

Bernardini already built armored value transports and bodies of trucks for the Army before they started on the X1. So not entirely true.
From a main point of view, its mainly Biselli which caried a lot of the responsibility for the X1 project.

Living in the extreme south of Brazil, i've came across a lot of these modified American tanks whenever i needed to travel from town to town, such as the X1's in the 6th RCB (6° Regimento de Cavalaria Blindada - 6th Armored Cavalry Regiment), and the X1 parked along side the m3 half-track at the 6th Armored Infantry Brigade in Santa Maria. Also, I was literaly born in front of the 9th RCB, and nowadays they have a M41 Caxias, an M41 modified to use a 90mm gun, parked in front of it.

As a writer of historical fictions, this is an invaluable resource as it is important to know what various countries possessed, why they possessed said vehicles and how successful those vehicles were. Likewise, vehicle's being maintained for both political and economic reasons when they weren't all that successful, or only marginally successful ... or even untested in combat conditions. @@henriquemontalvao8492 ~ I have most of the first book published. Its title is 'Life As A New Hire' and is one chapter from completion ... but that one doesn't have to do with Brazil, or the 'Osório'. Already set up in the first book though is a family of Hungarians/Romanians who emigrated to Brazil after World War II and the protagonist has to contact them due to an ancient family oath. At the same time a war is raging between China and a host of enemies ... thus the need of those enemies for a tank the European powers can't embargo. Also, right across the Atlantic, Cabinda has broken away from Angola and taken most of their oil wealth with them ... and they are in desperate need of creating an army from scratch ... and since Brazil is the leading country in the Lusophone-sphere ... Yeah, Brazil and its military play a large part in the second book and I just so happened to stumble across this page and your comments. I also was pleased to learn Brazil is leading the peace-keeping efforts in the Congo which is right next door to all this African madness. Thankfully, one of my two editors is Portuguese and can help me with so much of this stuff though the research and writing is on my shoulders. Currently the story takes place in 2015. I have so much to do.

I from Brazil and a writter, I se many chances to us in tecnology strategics, and so many loses, Engesa dont exist in this days becouse the Brazil's Army dont put a peny in the Osório MBT, and in the Time Iraq dont pay for the Cascavel or Urutus and my contry dont pressione Saddam to pay. Indeed today the Army have to bad apples in his command, you can see new about this and the '' Covid19 CPI'' here.
The good guys in the Army, dont help us to figth the pandemic or the Bolsonaro's intend to Overthrow Brazilian democracy and become the ''new emperor of Brazil''.

Don't pronounce Brazilian like it's mexican because it isn't. I'm a nationalist and every time you pronounce something in Brazilian I cringe. Besides the sepuku you should commit because of the language it is very good content and I didn't know all that.

I´m going to give a tip here, its better if you pronounce brazilian names as if you would in english than using spanish pronunciation. It gets just a tiny bitch less butchered.
