I'm genuinely in complete awe at the sheer skill people in top front ensembles have. I don't think I could ever even dream of becoming this good at mallets, this performance is absolutely insane.
you def can If you're a high school student rn, then you have the time to get to his position. Your biggest barrier is you. (And if you're not in hs but still dci age , you can still get to a top front itll just be a bit harder. )
@@SWilla00946do you have any tips or anything you can share? I also want to get to his spot but I don’t exactly have access to a marimba all the time. Currently a sophomore in high school, and also just don’t really know what to work on
@@_tayp8850 the truth--and one of the unfortunate realities about this activity--is that the best way to get good at playing music like this is simply.. playing music like this. or slightly easier than this. that's why it's very rare to see someone come into a corps like BD as a wgi/dci rookie; the chops you gain by playing in a lower-level world class corps, or a higher-level open class corps, are very difficult to replicate by just playing concert percussion or doing warmups in a typical practice environment. it's possible to do, but it takes an understanding that you're directly competing against people who will have spent 1 or more summers doing nothing but this for weeks on end
I loved this performance even thought i never got to see it in person this was a very interesting show because i play rack and this video makes want to strive to be center marimba and even do dci
chris, u lowkey had me inspired from day 1. i started a pit at my hs this year (im a freshman) it’s just me rn on marimba but i got hopes for the future. cheers and congrats!
It is all subjective to what type of sound you want to create! It also varies depending on what type of keys you’re playing on but generally hitting dead-center will sound more round and slightly off-center will be more sharp/articulate and clear, especially if you hit the keys harder
Whoever thought putting the cam on a marimba player was a good idea was way wrong. Nauseating at best. I could only watch for a couple minutes and listened for a few more. Sounded like it was really good but could not watch.
@@shadowkille8r99 I put in the comment hoping that this group doesn't do that again. If it bothered me, I'm sure it would bother many more. What do you mean nobody asked for? What is this comment section for? LMAO
I understand it could be nauseating, but i personally find it pretty nice, and you are definitely not in the majority. I think a better way to say it would be that the group(s) definitely won’t change just because of your opinion, so your comment seems unnecessary to other people.

What camera did you use to record your headcam?
Gopro hero 11( I think)
12:47
what mallets are used in the opening?
Just wondering, is it better to hit off center on the bass barss on 4.5 and 5 octave marimbas?
