update again, united percussion 2 '23 was the best season of my life and bushwackers marimba is treating me great. looking promising that i can make it into some world class groups in '24 with my growth as a player. still coming back to this video for inspiration
I don’t even play an instrument that can be in DCI (I’m a sax main) but this is so cool. I’ve discovered pit head cams to be the funnest to watch usually
Great Job! How hard was it to get in the blue coats? If I were to try out what skill level should I try to get to and/or what are some pieces I should be able to play?
(I attended one of their audition camps today, feel free to take this with a grain of salt) Most of making a drum corps pit is knowing the packet and being able to apply the comments you are given on the fly. You’re going to need some prior experience to get in, though.
@@GH_percussion Thank you! I have lots of experience on marimba but because of why I'm playing, I've never even touched snare or other non-mallet percussive instruments. How much do you think that matters/how much did you play snare at the audition camp.
This book is really a masterclass in how to score high without ramming notes every second. Impressive and tasteful
god your inner mallet runs are so clean. going for up and cadets this year and really gotta work on those. SICK VIDEO
hey update, i'm in united percussion 2 right now and got conned into doing bushwackers this summer but we'll see next year :) . i'll update then

DCI mallet players never cease to amaze me
me when marimba player plays marimba😩 also holy shit ur inner mallets dude. thats so insane👍👍
Boutta show our percussionist teacher this and be like “THIS IS WHY WE NEED HIGHER BUDGET”
Speaking from experience, having good hands and good writing is way more important than a big budget.
LOVE watching you get better every year.

That was a great show I went to see it at the navy stadium for a band field trip.
this is absolutely insane
If those are the Jim Casella signature series mallets, I also use those!

Question:
how do you count the dotted fives before the hit in part 3?
dotted fives are just eighth note fivelets over 3 counts rather than two. Try a five against three subdivision with TE Tuner
