As a Rach Prelude in C sharp minor piano player who discovered his 2nd Piano Concerto in a movie in the early 40's which deified Rachmaninoff to me, I am astounded at the abilities of this Russian-American who did it all: pianist, composer, and conductor par excellence! God bless you, Sergei for all you gave the world!!!
IMO, 4 < 1 < 2 < 3, and Rachmaninoff himself said the 2nd was more difficult than the 3rd. 3rd has more notes per square inch of the score, but the 2nd has some awfully difficult spots.
I can do transcendental bc I’ve played them all,it goes easiest to hardest: 1,3,10,7, 2, 11,6,8,9,12,4,5 - reasons being, 1 , 3 are easy, 10 is deceptively not that hard, 7 is easy going but I guess still hard to pull off convincingly, 2 is just hard but not hard, 11 is hard to make it sound good, 6 is ite but difficult, 8 for it’s difficult rhythms in the middle section, 9 more difficult as a mix of pulling off making it sound nice and hard technique, same with 12 although harder technique, and 4 and 5 quite obviously the hardest 2 of the entire set, Mazeppa most tiring of the set to play Just a guess, I’d have to probably rank the Paganini ones like 4,5,1,2,3,6
@@drumclef3241 i'm just wondering why did you put number 10 in not that hard i mean, it's hard in 95% of the time, and number 7 there is just a few parts of technical dificult (sorry for my english that is prob not perfect)
Why are people obsessed with these concertos? Yes Rachmaninoff wrote great concertos but lately they’re treated like the “end all be all”. Is it because of Yuja Wang? Has anyone even heard the Brahms or Tchaikovsky concertos? Or Saint Saëns? Talk about sublime….
The Rachmaninoff Piano Concertos were significantly more popular than most other piano concertos long before Yuja Wang even had the technique to play them

No.4 that one is unpopular, and almost no one know that, and it was so difficult too!
most know only the 2nd and 3rd
Thank you for the video.
I cannot grasp how Rachmaninov managed to compose such music.
Very nice video! Although I would argue that no. 4 is the easiest, at least to me, but I have not researched them for a while.
4th is my favorite.

How would you rank Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini on this list?
Easier than all of them in my opinion
In the middle, harder than 2nd Concerto and easier than 1st Concerto, the difficult parts are super diffcult, the easy parts are fodder in comparison
can anyone here in the coments make a rank of liszt trancendental etudes AND paganini grande etudes in the same list?

first one is harder than the second??
The sample recording of Rachmaninoff Concerto No. 3 in this video is the easy part. The hard parts are later in the approximately 40-minute piece.
can you rank Mozart, amd Saint saens.
Defintely in future!
