YUSSSSS! Mark I had in my late teens a 1200 Datsun Sunny panelvan and with a set of Hotwires and a good tune that thing was awesome fun as a working daily, I drove it hard and gave it love and to this say I still have fond memories. Sure I had other more flash V8's and an S50 Crown (2M Celica steel 5 speed) but I was drawn to that bloody panno Datun when it was time to walk out the door with a set of keys :-) So I 100% get it.
Welcome to the ITB gang. I love mine although I do have 296 degree camshafts in mine and sounds absolutely awesome when it comes 'on cam' - Great fun in an old Mini with Austin A series running a 16 Valve cylinder head,.
Mark, when you put the H89 head on the A15, don't forget the twin valve springs., even if it's a stock cam. That way you don't have to remove the head from the block when you swap to a bigger cam. It won't give you more power with the stock cam but it will rev higher. Stewart Wilkins can supply springs, and you'll will need some stepped washers, as the inner valve spring is shorter. These are just L series parts, every L series engine has twin springs. That front brake problem you had was the same as one I had years ago. I had a 1200 sedan with disc brakes & the brake shop supplied a reco kit for drum brakes. The front brakes locked on within a kilometre of driving the car, in heavy traffic. Naughty Words were said when I got it back to them.
How on earth did Scotty fit inside? I'm 5'11 on a good day and felt cramped in my sunny truck. I also put a prototipo in mine too :) Your build is awesome, I love it!
People that haven't driven small, light, less than 100hp cars don't understand that they can be big fun. They're only slow on the straight bits, and even then you get plenty of time to listen to them, and your licence is pretty safe. Just go back and watch the old Minis racing and see just how much time they make up under braking and around a corner. Saving yourself a head gasket by not doing the head swap before the A15, actually saves you two because if you are going to put the current A12 head back on afterwards you'll end up using two
Seems it still isn't breathing much because max power was nowhere near redline. Might be I misunderstood or it doesn't physically work, but wouldn't it be better to wind down the manual idle control so that haltech would have adjustment range also when the engine is up to temp?
@Sysiphos max power is cam dependant, so technically it is a breathing problem, but caused by valve timing. At that stage we didn't have the idle control in the Haltech right. These are BIG throttles for a 1.2 litre. All good now though.

Its a thumbs up from me, ITB dorts 🎺 love 'em. Welcome to the club
It generates such a range of sounds, from a grumble as you're just puddling along at 2-3000rpm, to a raucous DAAAARRRT! at high rpm!
I love it!
Glad you got the Sunny figured out,Mark! Well done to Shannon and also the Haltech crew!
Thanks bud. Spotto shixbox Caldina at 2:00 🙃🤪

I saw you guys yesterday coming back from Canberra on the M5 (in my black clubby). Interersting channel - thanks for your content

Done and done!
Good on ya Mark. I’m a die hard A series lover too. People give us shit but they don’t get it. 😂👍👍
It's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow. Go the Sunny Truck
Very Dortocious !!!!!
Sounds glorious driving it around.

@@BarrelBros yep, he's folded up in there 😀
Seems like a great setup for a delivery ute.... maybe the 1500 will get a bigger cam??? ;)
That is entirely possible, indeed probable lol.
Larry Chen had a nice lil Sunny on yesterday.. had serious carby bog down though
Yeah, saw that. This thing with the fuel injection and Haltech runs like a dream now.
The more you drive it the better it gets.
@@BarrelBros keep on sunny truckin
have you got a link to that vid?
@@nickbagus4529 sorry it was Dino DC.. just search it 💪
If you're putting the '15 together, add the cam!

You’re absolutely right about the fun factor!
