My cat is not a cuddler. I broke him out of jail when he was three. So I don't know what happened in his first three years. When I ask him about it, he quickly changes the subject. I'll give these tips a try. Maybe someday....😿
Sometimes love of cuddling is personal for different cats. Some time ago I was on farm and there was kitty girl and kitty boy, brother and sister. Boy never liked to sit on hands and be cuddled but girl would live on your hands if you allow her. Or some breeds. I have little Bengal boy and he can make purring near me, but he'll never stay on my hands more than half a minute.
I have taken in three stray cats and most of them don't like to be cuddled. The key was to make the cats feel secure with cat trees, vigorous play with toys, scratching on the head or neck only, and time. I let the cats jump on me when they want to cuddle and leave them alone otherwise. Usually, they want a warm lap for about 10 minutes without too much scratching.
Thank you for meeting your cats where their comfort zones are ❤ I wish more people approached their cats like you rather than forcing physical contact then being mad when the cat is less than receptive
This vid is spot on. NEVER go into their space, always let them come to you .... then even, keep it on your terms & push them away (even if you want more) to make them think "Damn!" ... I am going back!!!! My cat hates being picked up. Never cuddles. But is like glue on her terms. She knows. I ignore her. Next minute she is on my PC, laying on the mouse seeking attention, literally right in front of me. She gets a stroke ... then she gets shifted. Her way of seeking attention. I then may 10 minutes after ... Take her for a walk on the leash for 20 minutes. She knows
I minimize picking up one of my old lady cats because she developed arthritis. Sometimes she visits my lap, but she usually prefers sitting next to me.
I have had many rescue cats. They’ve come from varying levels of feral. Getting them younger makes it easier but it doesn’t denote who likes cuddles most. The latest to join me is Sam. He arrived in a mess. Grey and thin. He wanted cuddles from the start and it was clear he wasn’t going to be a catch sterilise and release. My prior trapped feral was a very frightened young pregnant cat. She had her kittens a handful of days after I’d trapped her. It took me months of gently touching her without making eye contact. Then building it up slowly to more cuddles. I’ve had her 3 years. Now when she sees any of us she practically fizzes with happiness and bounces and falls over in her excitement to get some loving. She is absolutely my most affectionate cat and the one whose affection and trust was hardest won. Time, patience and love and they will lose their fear. Then they can be true to their own individual nature. Whether that’s cuddly or not.
My cat responds more if I rub his forehead with my forehead and sometimes he takes his nose and taps mine with his nose. Like your video stated habits are learned at a young age and none of my 3 cats likes to cuddle or be held that's okay because all 3 are affectionate.
I cuddle with my cat only if she wants to. I just somehow know when she wants to cuddle. Also i cuddle with her only when i sleep or when i am sitting somewhere.
My kitty (from a litter abandoned by their mother in the shrubbery in a friend's yard) isn't cuddly but she will sit at my feet some, and does on occasion like neck or jaw scritches and she closes her eyes and I say "Kitty spa day!" She does nudge my hand and rub against my legs. And she'll lick my hand. If she does jump in my lap, it's only for a second and she springs off to her destination, lol. I got her when she was three weeks old and knew that she wasn't particularly cuddly from her demeanor, even tho' she chose me. She likes those fishing pole wands and chasing crunched up paper or cardboard, and when she pounced for the first time I was so proud! :)
My cat was a half stray because he was kept in a cage outside as a kitten until we got him and he liked cuddles but my cat who was handled by gentle people doesn't really like it😅
Well, I think one of my dad and his wife's cats doesn't because they found him abandoned as a kitten and he was flea ridden, so many he was very weak. I think the baths to get rid of them might have traumatized him a bit. He will allow to be petted a little bit, but once he is done, he is done.
I have a feral cat. I think someone have done something bad to him earlier... He ran away if i had my hands in my pockets and pulled them out. Have had him for 2 years now, so he is ok with me. He is very scared of eveyrone else still. He does not like being lifted up, so i just dont do it. I talk to him ALOT and he talks back^^ Even when i whisper to him, he whispers back^^
Both cats of mine they don’t like being held but when you go to bed they will come in and get under the covers for a good half hour but I’ve never force them to ether it is what it is I love my girls and I know they love me back I have a tortoiseshell and a Macon sorry if I didn’t get the name right I have spelling issues so I apologize
We had two kittens that we looked after in the summers. You see; in the summers we go to a different town to stay away from city life, so naturally our house had a backyard. Actually me and my friend took one of the kitty's to our backyard before his sister somehow found him and also stayed with us, the male one let's us pet and cuddle him, but hs sister was a jerk. Later on when we came back next yea we found out that the male one was gone, and his sister had kitties. Those kitties were a jerk like their mother :(( so this happened every year when we go back to the other house we would find new kitty's from our first kitty. They were all jerks until last year I actually saw the mother cat having two kittens; one black and one tabby, like herself. The black one obviously had its father's coat, and it was the only cat int he entire bloodline to ever let us pet it... So yeah, get a bombay cat-
My 1 year old cat ( we have had her since 9 weeks old ) used to be such a loving cuddling kitten and always slept on my bed laying across my chest at night and when sitting on my couch she would cuddle up to my legs but since she was spayed she just doesn't want a cuddle or picking up or anything related to closeness. She used to love having the top of her head and all around the sides of her face rubbed but now she lowers her head away from me. She is like a totally different cat altogether. When this happens do they usually go back to their loving ways, or is this something I will just have to learn to live with.
My girls kind of sit/squat with butt and rear paws on one hand, chest on the other, and front paws over the top. They know they can boing right out of there off the back paws, so they are comfortable there. The skinny one moreso than the chonk, of course.
My friends cat is not a fan of cuddles or petting. Its a British Shorthair, and its most likely because it has wild roots. Idk, just felt like saying this
Mmm pretty that is something due to the cat in qiestion or cats on question ,ay be feeling that they do not want to and or forvinstinctly it does not feel natural.
I think i m coming to the conclusion that every cat video online, the narrator in tbe background is an AI CAT!always biased, always OUR FAULT! well, i dont speak cat, or i would tell mine to come and take her medicine! she is not coming near leave alone cuddles or lifting her lol
"The average human is taller than the average cat"
Idk why this was funny to me

They're all individuals. I've had many cats over the years. The most cuddly are always the ones who had been socialized early.

If mine resist I let go(always done so)but she wants to cuddle a lot:)
I have two cats who jump into my arms, one who throws himself against my legs at every opportunity and one who doesn't want to be touched at all
