A couple of things to consider. Ambient room temperature vs outside temp. If it was hotter outside than inside where you did this test that could be the difference. Also was the OP on a tripod outside like it basically is here inside. If you were hand holding this could insulate the OP and slow heat dissipation and lead to the overheating.

Here is my Outside filming experience with P2.
I was in Kuwait and the temperature was 47-8C....
    ,,C" means celsius.
    It was crazy hot,but my P2 survived 19min. videography ,4K -
    48 frames.
    I must say,that the Pocket 2 didn't shut down !
I shut down and that's way I stopped the P2.
So probably I could squeeze another 10 min.
The gadget was very VERY hot,but it survived.
    Zero problems.
Almost 20min. 4K 48fr. almost 49C extremely bright sunny day and that Pocket 2 performed very well 👌
I hope, that my experience will help you guys.
    Greetings !

Hope mine can work better T.T, i just receive my dji pocket 2 today and I literally just turn it on and do nothing and it gets quite hot after 10 mins, when transferring file/ connecting to phone it gets so hot in less than 5 mins T.T but I did found a glimpse of hope since I can shoot 4k30 for 5 mins and it gets warm but not that hot..

It's cause you had it standing still. If you were moving it around using the gimbal actively it might be a different story. Used mine the other day and it got so hot I couldn't even hold the sides

Long videos come recorded in one file or it will be splited every 15 minutes?

I changed the memory card to xc. This issue stopped. Initially happened a lot with normal microSD

@@Depecroaziera I did not try long duration recording. I usually record for 2-3mins and then pause/stop. Makes it easier to edit later.

@@aroycorner5536 SD card has many types if you used a good one that transfers files faster would work with 4k better

so how was the issue solved?

  • @arinadinurrohmad914

i think heat come form servo.
i have same issue on fimi palm 2.
when i turn on follow mode, gimbal heat quickly.
on arduino servo driver produced much heat and must be cooling by heatsink or active cooling.

I was wondering if when holding the unit will most likely generate much more heat and that,s when it switches off. I have one of these myself and have found that this mode works very good in low light conditions. Thanks for the upload test. Thumbs up.

Thank you. I tried holding it for 30 minutes and and it was still fine so I am not sure what caused the unit to turn off the previous time

@@Techaton actually in some ways it's a good thing that the unit does switch off if it gets too hot as opposed to burning out. I've been using g mine in superfine mode for night time shots and the image is much smoother and good to look at. The temperatures here in the UK at the moment are pretty cool and probably helps, I'll find out when the temperatures go up. Regards Geoff Dean.

I live in US and temperatures get really hot. Superine mode is amazing makes the quality much better.

Sorry TechFive, but such a useless test. Go out in the sun please. Try natural shooting. Mine went off many times even being in the shade at 25 Degree Celsius trying to shoot a timelapse. I powered it up during, the power supply couldn't even catch up with the loss of battery power in the Osmo. Result: Osmo is kiddy toy when it comes to time lipse. it might work at sunrise/sunset, but for timelaps during (at least) late summer days=completely useless!!!

Don’t waste your time watching this video? He forgets to turn on his recording on his phone. He forgets to start the timer he doesn’t put it in 4K is he forgot to fix it as well but the most annoying thing his iPad times out all the time???

Those results and conclusions don't mean anything without ambient readings kid ;) In addition, holding the device will probably make it warm quicker...

in my opinion, the overheating test is just 20min long, it cannot really test out any error, please make another test spend around 45 to 60mins, see how is it going.

Not a practical test by the way.

You are recording one still picture. The video encoder knows that.

    • @do-ineedtosay723

I agree. If the owner were to record, say a movie playing on a TV, there would be lots of movement and the internal processor of the Osmo would have to work really hard to encode and move lots of data onto the memory card. That should create undesirable excess heat.
