Would love it if you did a video showing what backpack you’re using to hike into these locations, how you are securing your rods with that bag, and what other things you bring with you. In general your gear videos have been very helpful for me as I start in Tenkara.
Fished my first stream yesterday here in Scotland in the Tenkara way. Almost 40 years rod and reel, and I'm loving Tenkara for the brown trout as much as the streams I'd overlooked for so long. Thankyou for your inspiring videos, tips and the odd nugget of advice, you're a top guy :)
I think you’d love it Tristan! Scotland is smaller than Idaho, and easy to travel around. Most folks fish the big stuff and miss out on the more interesting (IMO) streams here which are pretty underfished in comparison. I know you like to fish alone, but if you ever do make it over on your adventures I’d love to show you around. Please give me shout if you do. 👍
Maybe I have missed it, but I would love to see you talk about how you fish a level line. All of it from the cast to how you choose to what it does on the water.
“Fishing new creeks is my favorite thing.” I’m with you 100%. Nothing like the excitement of exploration, the anticipation of good looking habitat, and the thrill of what’s lurking around the next bend in the creek. Well done sir.
Tristen, thank you for showing the falls along with the good fishing.. As a old Disabled Lady who actually falls two or three times a trip.. gives me hope. My first excursion to the Tri-Basin area was difficult and the only fish I caught were Browns... Wyoming access for the Disabled is very challenging. Destiny
Well , not a lot of trout here in Texas , but , if you fall in , the waters warm . I have " accidently " fallen in many times in the middle of summer ! Not a ton of fish this time , but , some mighty fine scenery , and , no people . The parks where I usually fish are full of screamin kids , barkin dogs and weirdos ! I'd watch just for the scenery and serenity , catchin fish is a bonus . Thanks for takin us along 😎👍👍
I also love finding success in a new creek or river. The struggle of discerning its structure and pools. But if I may share something that keeps me coming back to streams, a favorite quote; “no man steps in the same river twice, for it is not the same river and he is not the same man.” -Heraclitus I also really love this kind of fishing because even the same stream is constantly changing, throughout the day the seasons and years. May fishing always bring you peace, perspective and happiness as it does me.
I wish streams and rivers here in Ireland were as clean as those over there. We have very few rivers left here now that are not polluted. Honestly breaks my heart when I watch your videos, as I remember when most of Irelands waterways were like this. Sorry Tristan, your videos put a smile on my face, but I had to get that out there.
I'm sorry to hear that. Not all the creeks here are pristine, of course, but there are still multiple lifetimes of fishing in the western United States to be had on creeks like this. Thanks for watching.
I thought you got new wading boots? Not as good as you'd hoped? First time I've seen you go down on video. Glad you're ok, thanks for the great content.
9’ level line on what length of the mizuchi? I just got my mizuchi and figuring it all out. Haven’t caught anything ,yet. But I’ll keep at it. Are you fishing the original mizuchi or the softer rod?
Sure, but it's just not where my heart lies. I love being in the mountain creeks. I'll fish saltwater with a tenkara rod eventually, but in the mean time, I've got plenty of creeks to keep me busy 😁
I'm not sure those fish on the last creek were cutthroats. I always identify cutthroat or cutbows by the red slash on their throat. Those looked like wild rainbows to me. Also, on that second creek, you started catching fish after losing that first fly. Maybe that pattern just wasn't working. I know you usually have success using just about any fly, but sometimes you do have to try something different. I often wonder why you don't fish dry flies more. Is it harder on the rods you use, or are they more of a pain to use? I like using dry flies when they work, and I just wonder why you don't use them.
With respect to fish ID. Brook trout are char. Rainbows and cutthroat are true trout. To tell a char from a trout you can look at their spots - char have light spots (white or yellow to red) on a dark body, while trout have dark spots (brown to black) on a light body. Most of the fish caught from the small utah creek appeared to be cutthroat. I was unconvinced that any (with the possible exception of the 9-incher) were brook trout. You had the better look but ...

Love that you kept the fall into the creek in the video. Wading is an art with uncomfortable consequences.

Love seeing you catch fish out of such small waters. Keep em coming.
#1 Thanks for sharing your adventures!!Keep em coming!!!
Will do!

That's great to hear! I'd love to fish in Scotland someday!

Love seeing your videos, then seeing Tom Davis fish. We can learn a lot from Tom.
Maybe I have missed it, but I would love to see you talk about how you fish a level line. All of it from the cast to how you choose to what it does on the water.

Exactly! Thanks for watching 👍
What kick when a bow-and-arrow cast yields a nice fish! Thank you for another great outing - loved that meadow creek!
I do get a kick out of that, too!
It’s amazing to be on such a beautiful creek and there’s no fish then fish a ditch line creek and have success great job again thanks
Lol that's a good point! I guess the fish don't care how pretty the creek is 😄

By my quick count this is the 45th video to feature the Mizuchi; only the second to feature the Ukiyo. Thanks for sharing!
Yes, the Mizuchi came out in 2019, the Ukiyo just last year.
You'd know better than anyone! 😄

Thanks for sharing Tristen, glad you were not skunked. I always love the fishing.
It seems you were getting better results in sunlight. Cool little creek by the highway.

That's very true! And thanks for the kind words!

What a beautiful stream. Reminds me of the Eastern Sierras.
Looked like fun

Maybe try felt bottoms with a few cleats.cheers,Chet
Nice video. Are you using barbless hooks

Last creek, cut-bow?
Great video -- were you utilizing the Mizuchi with the softer rod blanks? Or the original Mizuchi?
I've seen on another fishing video that fish and it looks like a tiger cutthroat fish. 🙂✌️👍🙏👋
amazing
Have TA you ever thought about doing saltwater tenkara 👀👀👀???
Sure, but it's just not where my heart lies. I love being in the mountain creeks. I'll fish saltwater with a tenkara rod eventually, but in the mean time, I've got plenty of creeks to keep me busy 😁
That looks like Logan canyon a bit
Those trout look to me like redband rainbow trout.
What size flies are you typically fishing?
Have you ever used an original Tenkara rod and your thoughts. 21:30 21:30
Cold dunks and lost flies, all part of the game. Beautiful water and fish. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy.
Thanks!

How long of a leader and tippit do you use? Didn’t look very long
Thx
To me those trout look very much like Cutt-bows. Hard to tell though without being close up

I went back and looked more closely - at least two were brrok trout
Beautiful creek. However, I have found that when the water is so Crystal Clear, it's too sterile for trout to live.
Not sure what happened but I sent that twice . Sorry !

Yeah, I'm spoiled in that I have fairly easy access to fairly remarkable country for fishing! Thanks for watching.
