    Closed captions on TH-cam: "welcome to whisky vodka. My name is learning hard spooning." I didn't make that up.

    Probably one of the best reviews of this scotch, Horst. I'm drinking a 2015 and I have to say, I'm relatively "new" to pleated single malts, but this is like an old friend to me. I feel like I'm sitting at a campsite, smelling and tasting the wood burning on the open fire, but with a gentle sweetness, oily and intense the same, and a long, long finish. I taste the smoke a good 10 mins after I've finished my dram. This is an absolute gem!

    Excellent presentation. I've long been a Laphroaig drinker and I enjoy all of their different bottlings although I must admit my favorite is the Cask Strength, without added water. Probably just a defect in my taste buds but I don't find that water, in my opinion, does anything to improve the taste. I've only recently tasted Ardbeg, the ten-year-old, not the Uigedail. I think the Ardbeg is superb. I have no doubt that I could tell Laphroaig from Ardbeg in a blind tasting but I fail to see a point in doing so. They are both very superior whiskies. I have no need to rate one against the other but merely a need to drink them. In my opinion, these represent the best that whisky has to offer and I've tasted a LOT of whisky over the years.
    Herr Luening, thank you for an informative video.

    Horst I must say this is one of your most masterful "expressionist" moments describing a whisky. I am just now starting to appreciate my bottle of Ardbeg Uigeadail. I'm just getting into Peat by baby steps. This bottle has been open for about 2 months now and I have to say this is a great scotch and I am starting to appreciate the flavors of the peated whisky. You are the "Master of Expession for a whisky taster"!

    I almost fall asleep when I watch these videos, not because the content isn't captivating but because his voice and descriptions are so calming 😅

    Tried this along with Horst’s notes…in the beginning if was slight, raisin flavored campfire smoke. The unsmoked tobacco came through as he said, in the background almost like walking into a smoke shop. Towards the end the nose became candied bacon and the palate followed through along with sweet sherry. Not a huge peat fan, but this one is special. Superb finish.

    Many thanks sir. Very inspired review I'm currently tasting some Laphroag Quater Cask and Uigeadail and both are wonderful wonders for our senses. I really think Uigeadail has a bigger spectrum of flavors and aromas. The pleasant and long lasting after taste is telling you that you are lucky to have that in hand. On the other hand, the Quater Cask is so delightful, charming and comforting for northern creatures as we are.
    Cheers from Quebec, Qc, Canada.

      1. Where do we come from?
      2. Where do we go to?
      3. Where is Horst's microphone?

    I have this and it is awesome! Oak, Sherry, fruity, spices... This will keep you warm on those chilly nights... I do recommend a dab of water to lesson the harshness of the 54.2% and to release the complete essence!

    Good review. Thanks! I love the 10 YO and recently got some Oogie. Drank it while watching your video and our other malt mate!! I also recently tasted the Redbreast 21 and OMG, i like peated beasts but that 21yo is phenomenal.
    For anyone getting into peaty, smoky, i would recommend the following journey:
    Highland Park 12Yo --> Bowmore 12yo --> Ardbeg 10yo --> Lagavulin 16yo --> Ardbeg Uig / Laphroaig 18Yo
    Other lovely smoky peaty whiskies are Talisker 10yo and if you can get your hand on a DE.
    Laph 10 and Quarter Cask, Kilchoman 100% Islay, Big Peat Christmas Edition, Smokehead. You'll find newer distilleries doing NAS. Ardbeg however has done that longer,

      +Dhanashen Naidoo Is there anything that competes with Uig at $55 (I can get it for that here in Cali)?

    • @dhanashennaidoo6765
      @dhanashennaidoo6765 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Krelianx X Doubt it. Im from South Africa bud and our Rand/$ exchange rate I'd be paying R935 ($55) in Cali. I get it here for around R900-R1000.
      Your Laga 16 should be priced similar to the Uig and the Laph 18Yo, if u can find it, should be around $10-$20 more. the others i listed around $10-$15 cheaper

      Great choices. Would also highly recommend the Caol Ila DE, Lagavulin DE, Laphroaig An Cuan Mor, and Ardbeg Corryvreckan. All rated in the 87-89 range and are affordable.

    I have has a few peat whiskeys and I can say without a doubt that this is by far the best so far. Others I have tried, the peat is too strong. this has a nice marriage of peat and sherry that is very nice. add a little water and it brings the flavor out very nicely.

    So no one cares but I had Ardbeg around ten years ago. Liked it. Got a bottle today, so glad I found it. So magnificent. Beautiful peat and smoke and in the swallow a wonderful adult sweetness like grown up vanilla I ever tasted. Ardbeg is still a king 👑. So smooth. Also I tried Laphroaig 10 first for the first time. Amazing. For me the Laphroaig 10 and Ardbeg 10 are the best. Sorry that Horst isn't into Laphroaig much but I still think he's cooler than the most interesting man in the world if you remember him lol 😂 Here's to 2022

      I found that adding water brought the Sherry & Fruit to the front, but leaving it neat retains more of the smoke, peat & bite that gives this dram life. Wonderful stuff. Top 10.

    Normally I dont like to cut Cask strength with water, but this Ardbeg is an exception, it's less "sluggish" and "fatty", and more enjoyable with a drop of water. Great review, accurate and informative as always.

    Hello do you think this one might je the right one to tackle peated whiskies? If not which one would you advise me? So far I have obly had speyside and highland whiskieq but I am eager to try other things.

    • @Whiskycom
      @Whiskycom  9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It would not advise you to start with the Uigeadail because of the high ABV combined with the peat level. My recommendation would be a Bowmore 12 or an Ardbeg TEN.
