    Whisky.com tastes the Ardbeg Corryvreckan. The Corryvreckan is named after the famous Corryvreckan vortex north of Islay and Jura. The Vortex is named after the Viking prince Vreckan who died in this whirlpool.
    The nose:
    Intense smoke (bonfire), some alcohol, a little tar, in the back red fruit, chocolate and a little sugary.
    The taste:
    Intense, spicy and full, sweetness, a faint coffee note,
    The finish:
    Long, It fades away carefully.

    So far my favorite Ardbeg. Intense and puts all the complex aspects of the profile at the red line. No boredom here. The swirling dram nearly takes you and the burnt clipper under but then as it almost swallows you down, you triumph, like the feeling after a cold shower. Again daddy, again.

    My notes: Shocking opening...oak smoke, peat, light brown sugar, peppercorn, developing heat, rare beef, astringent, black licorice, long dry peaty finish cayenne chili, campfire put out with water smoke and steam.

    My favorite Ardbeg. One of the finest whiskeys of all time.. This one and the Ten - can't go wrong. Complex but so good.

    Thanks for the review, spot on. That was intense, but wonderful profile. Every sip I discovered something new. I’ll try the Uigeadail tomorrow.

    I had this for the first time yesterday, very intense. It burned my mouth but it was still smooth. I love the bonfire smoke and slight coffee and dark fruits. The flavor lingered long after the sip. I agree it's very intense, I wasn't prepared for that.

    Got the ten year exploration pack that has samples of the Corryvreckan and the Uigeadail. The Corryvreckan was an intense encounter. Strong wood flavor, but very enjoyable.

    Spot on Horst. I get some salt and licorice notes. But the peppery peat follows through and carries the finish of this excellent dram.

    Just picked up a bottle and am looking forward to giving it a try. I was a big fan of the Ardbeg 17 Year which was discontinued years ago. I’m hoping this expression will come close.

    I like this part best: 10.45´ because his facial expression is giving away how strong the dram actually is...

    Wonderful review and a great link to the Vortex. I really enjoyed that. While enjoying a dram watching, I could not help wonder where you place your mic. I can not see it, it picks up a clear sound yet sounds like it's in your mouth from all the swishing.

    I'm going to have to try the Corryvreckan again. There seems to be some issues between the batches. The last bottle I got was pretty horrible, was very immature, and the effects were unclean. I will give the Uigedail a try and hope it is more consistent with the batches.

    3 pulls on that one - that's quite an endorsement. Smelling the empty glass too - big fan of the 10, gotta get a bottle soon.

    which is better Corrvreckan in terms of taste profile or Uigeadail? Can you break it down for me.

    • @Whiskycom
      @Whiskycom  9 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Both whiskies differ against the 10y.o. with the use of special casks. The Uigeadail has a softening Sherry cask influence (sweet, fruity). The Corryvreckan uses more oak intense casks, which give more tannins (spicy, bitter) into the final whisky.

    I know people are starting to collect ardbegs, but can't decide whether I should get the corryvreckan or the uigeadail. I'm thinking the Corryvreckan. What do you reckon Horst?

  • @rmoshammer
    @rmoshammer 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    In your German review you said, the Corryvreckan is only available for a maximum of 3 years - now you say it is in the regular line. I have talked to some stores in Berlin and they said also say, it is in the regular line....

      Drinking any alcohol daily can become a habit, if not mindful of high proof spirits it can become a habit not a hobby. And for many it becomes a bad habit, I think that is what he and many other responsible channel hosts are referring to

    I went to the liquor store to pick up a bottle of Laphroig Lore, but the saleman talked me into getting the Corryvreckin instead. I also picked up a bottle of the Cote-D'or.

    • @cvheugten
      @cvheugten 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Interesting. Yesterday my mate, quite a whisky expert, and me compared the Lore and the Corryvreckan. We really took the time to do a solid comparison of these two top whiskies. Corryvreckan has more earth in it, more seaweed. Like you are walking on a beach right after bad weather. The Lore is more approacheable, has lighter tones in it. The aftertaste of the Lore is not very long, still very good and balanced. the aftertaste of Corryvreckan is strong and tasteful. And no need for a drop of water. Both whiskies are of the same qualityclass, and they share a lot of taste-components, only the Corryvreckan goes where no man has gone before.

      Mostly the intense breathing and lack of background noise got to me, good informative review..... but still a bit creepy lol.
      I can see the Dracula vibe in this guy. Just wear a black cape, tone down the breathing, you have a winner. Don't do blood kids.
