Laurence Hammond It's still fun. It's just the weakest Zelda I've ever played. It feels like the New Super Mario Bros. of Zelda games, feeling a bit soulless and less fun than a Zelda game should be. It's still a good time.
+KojTxiv Haam couldn't have worded it any better. SS was a 5-6/10. TP was super gritty, which was really cool, but I'd still stick it with a solid 7/10. Ocarina of time was my favorite, and even then I wouldn't give it a perfect ten, amazing game, but I wouldn't say it doesn't have its flaws
Oh sure, there's some motion control. Which can be turned off. It was clearly shoved to the side in favor of more traditional controls, which I'll assume most people prefer anyway. Heck, Ocarina of Time 3D and Majora's Mask 3D have limited motion controls in the form of the gyroscope controls, but again it's not the primary focus. I think the person in the review here was strongly implying that full motion controls as seen in Skyward Sword was the future. Which was obviously wrong.
It's a great game if you haven't played it. Forget about motion control, it was just Nintendo trying something new, it's still a great game, and well worth playing if you haven't.

They are all different reviewers with all having different opinions and it's not unlike people to fall into the hype and how new and fresh a game is and call it the best thing ever to soon realise their mistakes. IGN gets way too much hate.
Funny to come back to this 6 years later after the release of the now very obviously superior Breath of the Wild. (Mind you, I still really enjoy Skyward Sword)
I loved Skyward Sword and thought it deserved this score years ago and was my favorite in the series. It's very underrated in my opinion and gets undeserved flack. The controls for me were fine and most of the gameplay did require precision which made me glad that Link did not feel overpowered in this game. Then... Breath of the Wild happened and took that crown. lol.
Better story? story is one of the greatest complains of fans of botw while ss had a great story but not so good gameplay, each one had its one goodies, skyward its a great linear story while botw its a great open world game, each one with its weaknesses too, being story one of botw´s greatest ones.
I love Skyward sword! Definitely one of the best zelda games! Great graphics. Really well working controls (for me at least). Best story. Not boring characters. Actual emotional connection between link and zelda. Long game. Great dungeons. I love it! You don't have to like it, but for me it really had a lot of heart in it and was an awesome game.
It has a lot of uninspiring collecting quests and repetitions... this damn curse monster boss needs to be defeated 3 times? Really? Some key is broken into pieces and you have to weirdly search for it via sword... really? Music notes, this stressful tearcollecting without the sword... The sword lady is dull and annoying and without soul... especially compared to Midna. I love the controls and dungeons but they should remove/change quite a lot for a re-release...
Jacques Nomdefamille Yes. This is called improvement. If you can't say the next iteration is the best, then you shouldn't be wasting time making and releasing something that doesn't hold up to the previous iterations.
Every time a new Zelda comes out, it's automatically "the best Zelda since Ocarina of Time!" They said that with Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, A Link Between Worlds, and they will with the Wii U game.
I don't get it, IGN said that Twilight Princess was the best Zelda ever and then they said Ocarina Of Time is the best Zelda ever, AND THEN they said Wind Waker was the best Zelda ever and now this? DO THEY NOT WATCH THERE OWN FREAKIN' REVIEWS!!!!
Having watched this entire video three times, I can explicitly state with the utmost confidence that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is definitely a video game.
Funny. It seems like a lot of people loved the motion controls but now it seems like everyone hates them. I had virtually no issues with the controls once I soon realized that I was doing it wrong. I was swinging my arm instead of my wrist.
I only wonder what they're going to do in the future if they ever re-release it. The game was built around motion controls, so can it still be played and enjoyed without it in future re-releases and remasters? I don't think so...
I've always loved the motion controls and I wish Nintendo would make another Zelda game with them, but unfortunately I don't think my wish is ever going to come true
For me, Twilight Princess was the greatest Zelda game. BotW is so much better than everything else in the series, it’s really an argument about the second best game.
Why not? It's got great story, and some of the coolest dungeons in 3D Zelda. The combat could use a bit of work, but it was the best 3D Zelda combat until BOTW basically put every other game in the series to shame.
I just realised they say in every Zelda review "This is the best Zelda game" I think that just goes to show that all Legend of Zelda games are equally good. Except for the CDI And Zelda 2
Hikari Yami When I saw "Except Zelda 2", I didn't mean it wasn't as good. I just put it in another genre, because it's unique. It's still just as good as the rest, just, you know, unique
Big Zelda fan here just wanted all of the people who flocked here after the Direct to know that this game is great. I loved it, I personally think it has more charm and more of that classic Zelda feel than BOTW
@@lfblast people in the gaming industry are so dumb about that. If the NYT posts an op-ed that conflicts with their official review of a movie, people understand that they're not being written by the same person
I REALLY enjoyed this game, but I have to be honest here, this review is complete bullshit. 3 areas that you have to visit 3 times a piece. Fighting the Imprisoned 3 times. And an over abundance of fetch quest even by Zelda standards. Fun, sure. But this is not the best Wii game, and most certainly not the best Zelda game.
+DarkAdonis123 Yeah, with each revisit being quite different. The imprisoned is also a well designed boss that offers you a lot of different strategies to beat it. Not to mention that each fight against him takes like 1 and a half minute. And looking at Twilight Princess and especially Majoras Mask and Wind Waker, Skyward Sword isn't worse when it comes to fetchquests. I'd say Skyward Sword is quite up there when it comes to Zelda games.
+The worms inside of the dirt He didn't shut anyone up. I gave my opinion and he gave his. There was nothing more to be said behind it. I think it ranks low, he thinks it ranks high. Neither of us is right or wrong. Not everyone is going to bicker like dumbasses over video games.
DarkAdonis123 that was not opinions. They are facts. Each revisit is different, the impression does indeed have different strategies to beat it. Only opinions here is that he thinks that skyward sword is up there with other zelda games.
"The greatest zelda game ever created" - Skyward Sword review "This is the best Zelda game since Ocarina of time" - A Lnk Between Worlds So.. make up your mind ignorants..
the thing i love so much about this game is that it explains so much for the other games in the series! what the bird on the shield means. how hyrule became. etc :)
Not the best Zelda game but definitely one of my favourites. The relationship between Link and Zelda in this game is so well done, much more so than in previous games.
Ocarina of time is undoubtedly the best Zelda game ever created. And it's not even my favorite Zelda game. I just know it's a fact. My favorite however is windwaker. The fact that the graphics haven't aged, the gameplay is beyond awesome. The open world/sea is beyond great. It's bomb diggidy.
Alchemic Overdrive I agree, if I made a Zelda ranking list I would put Orcarina of Time at number one because it's just a fact that it's the best Zelda game even though it's not my favorite, Skyward Sword is.
The onely thing that windwaker needed was at least one more dungion. Some people claim it was rushed but I think it was because of the vast sea to explore and all those island caves. If they hadn't put so much efort into the island caves they could have added more dongions but great vame annyway.
While I think this game receives a lot of undeserved criticism, I have to agree that saying "it is the best Zelda ever" would be a disservice to games like the Wind Waker. While this is a great game, it was just missing something. I can't put my finger on it. But I know one thing is for sure: this is one of the only games in the franchise that I have had little desire to go back and replay. I thoroughly enjoyed it the first time around, though. It is definitely a worthy title for the series; I just think it's far-fetched to say it's the best.
Brandon Petruska My only complaint with Skyward sword was the fact that the land wasn't as explorable it was pretty big but not super big like twilight princess, but they said they would fix this in Zelda Wii U. I found myself actually playing Skyward Sword multiple times. I don't know whether to agree with skyward sword being the best zelda game because I actually have it tied with windwaker, but hey people have different opinions.
I fell like not only will Zelda u go back on all the advances skyward sword made, it will be fan service. Also known as oracle of windwaker's mask, twilight princess. Here's hoping this is wrong. Also, I love all the Zelda games, but I love the new stuff that comes. I hope to see a new game but still Zelda.
I100 percented this game. I know it in and out. This game is not a 10/10 i would give it an 7.5/10 this is not the best game in the series. tp, ww, oot,mm are all better. Why? very simple sky has poor controls and nothing to do. The ground is all linear. You can't get from one area to another with out going to the sky first. Not only that but the whole ground is just for dungeons. So basically if you don't want to play dungeons all day, Their is only one town to explore, also their are 1000 islands which are supposed to be the fun side quests. Maybe 3 islands out of 1000 have something to do. I enjoy the side quests and multiple towns to explore from previous zeldas. This game has one town thats it!! so imagine if ocarina of time just had Kokiri Forest that means no castle town, Kakariko Village, ranch, zora den etc. This was my favorite part of previous zeldas. This game has some positives, character development bewteen zelda and link and also groose's development. He becomes cool, also the sword gameplay is pretty fun. But even more negatives from a really cliche and predictable story, no voice acting so you have to read many lines of a text, vsing imprisoned 4 times is not fun either, graphics just not something i liked. Wanted more realism, STOP MOVING WHILE SWING SWORD, and finally towards the end of the game you are tortured with hours of dowsing and searching quests for no reason other then filler. We nintendo fans complain when other companies do it but in this case we are guilty. Their are other issues but you get the point this game is not a 10. I believe twilight princess is the closest we are going to get to a perfect zelda it combined modern convinces with the formula many love from ocarina.
And i bet you have only played five minutes of the game because at first it was a tutorial but i never knew i was being told how to play because it feels very smooth
echojake114 i 100 percented the game, you did not read my comment. I even said i LIKED the gameplay which was your argument... so yea your comment was pointless
I remember getting into a mini debate with my friend about which game had better graphics between Twilight Princess and Skyward sword, this was before Skyward Sword was released mind you. After seeing this video I still think that while Skyward sword looks generally better. I enjoy realism in games as much as the next guy, but I think this art style fits zelda much better than realism does. Then again that's all just a matter of preference.
Alright, as a Zelda enthusiast, you would definitely not rate this game a 10/10. *BUT*, if this game is looked at from a different perspective, it could probably get that score (the controls aren't perfect though). This was the first Zelda game I ever beat, I had previously played TP, but had never gotten deep into it. Then, right when I got this game, I beat it 3 times one after the other, I even called my favorite game of all time. Thanks to SS, I went ahead and finally beat TP, and then 11 other Zelda games. SS is the reason why Zelda is my favorite franchise. Right now I'm playing Zelda 1 waiting for Zelda Wii U. Zelda 1 is hard as hell, and boy am I excited for Zelda U.
Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword all deserve 10s. Stop attempting to be hypercritical of a powerfully consistent franchise. Nintendo may not have kept up in the graphics and utility department with their games or consoles but they always deliver solid and innovative gameplay. Something Microsoft and Sony have failed at for the past 2 1/2 years.
This is an interesting comment because about six months ago skyward sword did the exact same thing to me and I started playing a bunch of Zelda games and such (but I didn't beat SS three times)
ok i dont understand it, why does this game get so much hate? i've never played it but im trying to come up with a reasonable opinion here before i buy it or not
Well, my advice, play the game to see if you like it or not. As for me, this the first Zelda title I didn't even bother finishing. I absolutely despise the motion controls and didn't care at all for the world or the story.
Lrdvltr I weigh 150 lbs, genius; and I don't have any problem with motion controlled games when they actually function properly, which they barely do in SS.
no. There are a few things you need to account for. do you like exploration? this game is for you What about a good story? Take this game. Art style? this is cel shaded. thats pretty much it. this is more story than exploration
Does IGN just say that every Zelda game they review is the greatest one? They did it for this, Twilight Princess, and now Wind Waker HD. And this is NOT the style I think suits Zelda. They need that dark, epic, Lord of the Rings feel that Twilight Princess brought to the table, and they need to KEEP that style.
Zelda needs to be what Miyamoto want it to be! The game is an artistic one(the maker express criativity) more than its a comercial game like BF4 or COD (This Kind of Game Its better that the makers heard the gamers, cause these games' merely commercial), and we don't tell artists how to do their's jobs. I'd prefeer like you the visual style of TP, but really doesnt matter anyway, They(Miyamoto's\Aonuma's team) cant make a bad zelda game, they now what they're doing.
But Nintendo need serious franchises to stay in the game here. Not serious as in good, they have plenty of those. Serious as in something that appeals to older and/or hardcore gamers a little more. Zelda could be one of those franchises for Nintendo, but not if they keep dumbing it down with childish art styles. Don't get me wrong here; I love Wind Waker and Skyward Sword was pretty good. It's just not the image that Zelda NEEDS.
They don't need to keep just that style, I actually admire how much they switch it up. Keeps it really fresh. But yea, I could definitely use another darker game in the series like Twilight Princess or Majora's Mask (or hell even adult world OoT). They were so much more interesting. I loved how bizarre the Twilight Realm was with the crazy music, weird floating black square particles, and how they ingeniously matched the pure black colors of the twilight creatures with a lot of bright neon colors, the contrast between the two made it really stand out and gave it a super surreal style. I just hope they give it a rest on WW style. It was interesting, but god enough is enough with it
Aaron Richey I think it greatly exceeds in the whimsical Zelda feel... And I found the gameplay to be enjoyable and loads of fun. I haven't had such an amazing Zelda experience since Wind Waker.
My top 5: 1. Ocarina of Time (3D) 2. Skyward Sword 3. A Link Between Worlds 4. A Link to the Past 5. The Wind Waker (HD) - Still haven't beaten this though. The only Zelda games I haven't played are Four Swords Adventure (GCN), the three CD-i Zelda games, Spirit Tracks (DS), the Tingle spin-offs, and the BS Zelda games on Super Famicon's Satellaview.
Dallas Siler Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon Link: The Faces of Evil Zelda's Adventure - Unlike Wand of Gamelon and Faces of Evil, Zelda's Adventure is just like a top-down 2D Zelda game (like most Zelda games) but with Zelda as the playable character. Better than the first two CD-i Zelda games from what I seen but still bad.
Dude, what about Twilight Princess?? That was one of the hardest, most emersive fantasy games I ever played not to mention the darker than usual tone for the game itself. The idea for a somewhat parallel universe of twilight was brilliant and having it be the first official zelda wii game was great because you could actually use the motion controls for your sword. Plus, the ability to change into wolf form made the game that much more interesting because now you could do things that normal link couldn't like use your "sense" and dig into holls. Twilight Princess was probably the best Zelda game I EVER played and that's honestly an understatement because it was also a massive world that you could easily explore for hours and hours and still have something to do. Twilight Princess is the perfect Zelda game.
It was a great Zelda game. It took me a Long time to beat it. But you have to remember this is his list and his opinions. And they really weren't "motion controls" to be honest. They were more like "swing the remote around controls" Skyward sword has the real motion controls that make you feel your holding a sword.
Let's be honest here. Twilight Princess was great, but all it really was was Ocarina of Time 2.0. Skyward Sword is better than Twilight Princess because it gave us a better world to explore, better controls, completely original, and on top of everything, a crap ton of fun to play.
Definitely agree... People just rate twilight princess because it has a darker tone not because it's actually better than Skyward sword. Funny how no one mentions Twilight princess flaws such as a boring beginning (goat herding?), lifeless overworld and forgettable soundtrack
tigeremblem You know why I can live with TP's slow beginning? Because you actually do something. In the beginning of SS you just run around talking to people without doing anything. Sure there's the Wing Ceremony but that's it.
This game is hands down one of the best games ive ever played. Saying it is incredible is an understatement. Anyone that loves Zelda, or video games in general, I'm begging you to play this game. Fantastic.
lol the greatest Zelda game ever. i think not. everyone i have talked to who has played it said once the novelty wore off the game was ultimately forgettable. I wont even bother with it as i absolutely hate the motion controls.
Once again proving that most gamers are set in their ways, unwilling to learn anything new. You'll spend countless hours learning how to perfect combat IN a game, but can't invest a little time to perfect your skills PLAYING the game? This game proves motion offers more than dual analogues ever could. Same for Metroid Prime 3. Superior input methods, but gamers are too lazy to take the time to perfect their skills using it. I did. And now I'm damn good at it. In fact, I was beasting in MP3 compared to the first 2. Because I took the time to learn a superior input method. At first I sucked, but once it clicked, I got REALLY effecient controlling my character. My brother's the same way though. He sucks ass at motion and isn't willing to invest the time to learn. He's set in his ways. I couldn't imagine what would've happened if gamers were this lazy when the dual analogues first came out. Good thing they were eased in one at a time, or gamers might've fully rejected them.
Jaxon Holden oh i gave motion control a chance. but unfortunately it is nearly impossible for me to use. I am visually impaired and because of that have to sit a lot closer to the screen and because of that the motion controls don't work worth a damn. their design was extremely short sighted.
I found The Twilight Princess (gamecube) to be my favorite 3D Zelda game because I loved the darker artstyle, beautiful more openworld environments, memorable characters, all of the side games and activities (Especially Fishing!), intracate dungeons and creative, and compellingly heartfelt storyline. Oh yeah, I loved chickengliding!
It astound me that every single zelda game is different! Even when the core concept is the same and even when it goes from 2D to 3D it keeps surprising us. Nintendo's dev teams remain undefeated in there craft!
***** It's a horrible review because it goes into no detail and proclaims tremendous things without justification. And yes, it totally sounds like they were paid to say this shit. Saying "best zelda game!" is just par to the course at this point for new Zeldas reviewed by IGN.
Griffin Vacheron I can see what you mean--but honestly--it's not that impressive. The story I mean. The cut-scenes aren't very economic in the sense that they're too long in my opinion. I also find that the story is complex for Zelda--not complex for other games like Silent Hill 2/3. I feel as though it's a good step up, but the ideal way of communicating a story in Zelda is more of a Majora's Mask approach. Where you get keyed in on the world and characters through brief but deep snippets.
Agreed, they ruined zelda. also why can't they stop using opinions and base it by game facts and get deep in the story? or use a older version of the game.. Seriously IGN get with the program -.-
It's an amazing Zelda game ... like pretty much every Zelda game is. The reviewer gives actual points to WHY it got a great story like it's cinematics, characters, great art style all wrapped around it's fantastic and even at times innovative gameplay. Nintendo doesn't buy reviews. Heck they barely spend money on marketing.
I have beaten almost all of the main Zelda-titles except for 2, Oracle of Ages and Zelda II. I really enjoyed Skyward Sword, and something that really pisses me off is when someone is bashing Skyward Sword for it's controls and calling it "unplayable"... .....-_-
either those people are lying or they were the idiots who rather than swinging it like a sword they decided to flail the remote around wildly. I had problems with the controls twice throughout my entire playthrough but that was when I decided to flail the control around wildly. It was my fault, not the game's.
Skyward Sword was a good game but I felt myself frequently thinking a lot of things took a step backwards from previous Zelda games. Comparing Twilight Princess (TP) to Skyward Sword (SS): SS had great swordplay but worse use of several other items and worse aiming than TP. Epona beats the droppings out of the nameless wonder of a red bird in SS. TP had fun hidden skills. TP was more open and SS felt wa-a-ay too liner for a fly in the sky premise. Midna>Fi. TP's day/night cycles and great lighting would have really helped SS but that was excluded so I'd actually say TP had the preferred graphics. SS did make a lot of improvements to sword combat, customization, collectables and other things but too bad it had to be a trade off for the things TP did well.
The right handed only feature in Skyward Sword is what kept me from buying it. If they don't care enough about their left handed audience to just put a simple option to switch hands than I won't bother buying it. I know it seems like a little thing to completely disregard a game over but I am not going to intentionally hinder my experience in a game just because the game developers were too lazy to add in a measly feature to allow me to play with my dominant hand.
Breath of the Wild has quickly become my personal favorite Zelda game ever, but I still do love Skyward Sword. The Wii generation was incredible and people do not give it, or this game, enough credit.
I just found the game to be boring. it was just boring and easy, and the motion controls weren't that great. I feel like Wind Waker is one of the better 3D Zelda's.
+Scott2781 each one of those are unique in their own right same for skyward sword....None of those are better than Skyward sword .Each zelda game all have things that out class each other in some way or another...Skyward sword bosses and dungeons outclass major as mask and orcarina. oases and dungeons...I enjoy the motion control so much that I feel like all zelda games should have it..I learned the mechanics behind the motion control and I never failed to perform a move...Major as mask has the best type of side quests .. Best unique music...The list can go on but the point is they are all unique games. None are better..If you hate it that's just a opinion if you think it's bad...It's one of my top zelda games and I can't wait for what the next zelda will bring.
I still think the Wii motion controls were one of the greatest gaming ideas of all times and can't help feeling a little bit of sadness knowing they came and went just to be forgotten. Anyway...still loving my Wii after almost 15 years...
I thoroughly enjoyed it. Playing it through for a second time now. It still has levels that stump me even though I'm going through it a second time. The bosses are also challenging. Very enjoyable.
IMO this is the weakest Zelda I have played. I've played every Zelda adventure since OoT on the N64. Other than the controls which were infuriating at times this Zelda didn't do anything new that I thought was an improvement on the older titles. I didn't think the art style was great, the revisiting of only 3 areas was a bore not to mention the fetch quests like collecting the notes and the dark areas. I felt the open air world hub was not only under used but boring to traverse... The only thing I really admired was the final battle.
What's funny is that this is the same kind of enthusiasm people are using again now that the Switch is out. Nintendo IS falling apart. Think about it, the Switch is no more a home console than the PSP. That means that this is the first time in 30 years that Nintendo has not had a home console.
+HappyLandofSorrow not really, there are definitely better games out there. If most of them are 10/10 then there's really no point in the 10 scale if 10s are given out so frequently to games that are mostly good but not great or perfect.
Laurence Hammond sure, but not every Zelda game is a 10/10. For example I would say Skyward Sword is a solid 7/10, it's a good game but nothing in comparison to other Zelda games and there are far better games out there that deserve a 10/10 like the Witcher 3 or Skyrim (both of which got a 9.3 and a 9.5). If we give every Zelda game a 10/10 then we're diluting the meaning of a what a perfect 10/10 game is by doing that.
personaly, this is the only zelda game i did not feel like finishing because i dont like the controls, i prefer the old controller instead of waving a stick around the entire game. its fine to explore around the controllers with motion controling, but i really hope that nintendo goes back to the old controllers if and when they make a new zelda game on WII, WII-U or maybe a new console
wowowo I forgot about this game. so I ask u now which one should I play first this, twilight, or wind waker? I just got my Wii u and itching to play Zelda
This is by far my favorite Zelda game EVER. I prefer this over Breath of the Wild in all honesty. The soundtrack in Skyward Sword is INCREDIBLY superior. And I loved the motion controls.
Ehh, I give it an 8/10. It did everything right except the game was *WAY* too linear. (so yes, a link to the past still remains the best Zelda game) :D
Well… they did give Skyward Sword HD 8/10, but I’m curious if u still think A Link to The Past is best Zelda game since BoTW is around for quite some time now
So many people arguing of what the best zelda game is, but it is clear this is entirely opinionated. If this IGN guy THINKS this is the best zelda game, then so be it. If I THINK Wind Waker is the best Zelda game, so be it. But I cannot say that this is the best Zelda game on behalf of everyone because this is solely my opinion and I like it for my own reasons.
Did he just say the best Zelda ever made, I'm triggered to the third power right now!! Hello, have you played Link to the Past? Ocarina of Time? Majoras Mask? Twilight Priness? You picked this?!?
i dont know if i would call it the best zelda game maybe i would but most importantly is the combatsystem its the best one i have ever played. just the normal fights with normal bogblins are fun and exciting the movement works perfectly and the dungouns are the best in the series (in my oppinion)
Played this game since it's release, got stuck on the last triforce piece for a year and a half. Came back and sat down for a whole 8 hours straight no eating, skipping a day of college and then smoking a tonne of weed when finished. Only night I ever blacked out from smoking mainly because of lack of food and not moving for 8 hours. Great game well worth the money!
The best Zelda game got to be Windwaker, but Skyward sword is superb as well (as the other major zelda games: ocarina of time, twilight princess and majora's mask are)
All Zelda are best Zelda it is a paradox
Except Tri-Force Heroes.
+Peter Korman aww, i kinda liked it :/
+Peter Korman Triforce Heroes is fun
Laurence Hammond It's still fun. It's just the weakest Zelda I've ever played. It feels like the New Super Mario Bros. of Zelda games, feeling a bit soulless and less fun than a Zelda game should be. It's still a good time.
***** Yeah it's not a masterpiece but I don't think it really tried to be.
the fact that no one can say which zelda game is the best shows how great the series are. Each one is unique
+KojTxiv Haam 1 more thing don't even get me started on the charge attk...
Totally agree
+KojTxiv Haam couldn't have worded it any better. SS was a 5-6/10. TP was super gritty, which was really cool, but I'd still stick it with a solid 7/10. Ocarina of time was my favorite, and even then I wouldn't give it a perfect ten, amazing game, but I wouldn't say it doesn't have its flaws
+KojTxiv Haam We all have opinions and yours is crap 😀
Ocarina of Time is the best. Said it. Not even a debate really.
"Motion control is the way of the future for the Zelda series."
lol
lol
He's not wrong. There are gyro controls in Breath of the WIld.
But I think we all know the intent of his statement. He was speaking full motion controls like here in Skyward Sword.
helmers10 he was right...breath of the wild motion controls...
Oh sure, there's some motion control. Which can be turned off. It was clearly shoved to the side in favor of more traditional controls, which I'll assume most people prefer anyway. Heck, Ocarina of Time 3D and Majora's Mask 3D have limited motion controls in the form of the gyroscope controls, but again it's not the primary focus.

pov: you’re watching nintendo direct and saw it’s getting ported to the switch
Yeah
It's a great game if you haven't played it. Forget about motion control, it was just Nintendo trying something new, it's still a great game, and well worth playing if you haven't.

Because you have to remember that IGN has multiple writers with multiple different opinions
because if everything's a ten, nothing's a ten.
@Dante Betancourt dumbass 🤦♂️
Maybe because all of it 10/10?
Funny to come back to this 6 years later after the release of the now very obviously superior Breath of the Wild.
(Mind you, I still really enjoy Skyward Sword)
ikr, "best zelda game" not anymor IGN :D
I loved Skyward Sword and thought it deserved this score years ago and was my favorite in the series. It's very underrated in my opinion and gets undeserved flack. The controls for me were fine and most of the gameplay did require precision which made me glad that Link did not feel overpowered in this game. Then... Breath of the Wild happened and took that crown. lol.
_Snow Gold huge open world, better story, amazingly creative gameplay, open structure, great characters and tons of content
Better story? story is one of the greatest complains of fans of botw while ss had a great story but not so good gameplay, each one had its one goodies, skyward its a great linear story while botw its a great open world game, each one with its weaknesses too, being story one of botw´s greatest ones.
I played skyward sword when I was 10, I'm 15 now. I've played botw, imo skyward sword is much better.
***** ty for saying what needed to be said
Skyward sword is my favorite game of all time
Chicken NoodleStew I liked it enough, I suppose, and it gets so much hate for no reason, but I just couldn't get into it enough to finish it...
***** SS 0/10 too much goodness
It has a lot of uninspiring collecting quests and repetitions... this damn curse monster boss needs to be defeated 3 times? Really? Some key is broken into pieces and you have to weirdly search for it via sword... really? Music notes, this stressful tearcollecting without the sword... The sword lady is dull and annoying and without soul... especially compared to Midna. I love the controls and dungeons but they should remove/change quite a lot for a re-release...
IGN: claiming every new Zelda is the best Zelda ever, then changing their mind a couple of years after.
Jacques Nomdefamille they haven't told anything about previous games being the best
Dobo Agg they did on Twilight princess when it came out
And wind waker.
Jacques Nomdefamille Yes. This is called improvement. If you can't say the next iteration is the best, then you shouldn't be wasting time making and releasing something that doesn't hold up to the previous iterations.
Roddy Lawrence I don't think you understand what I said there.
Every time a new Zelda comes out, it's automatically "the best Zelda since Ocarina of Time!" They said that with Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, A Link Between Worlds, and they will with the Wii U game.
You are right. It's like the opposite of COD.
FreakyMagnum007 Sheesh, am I the only one on the internet that likes Call of Duty?
Bortkupo I meant that every time a new COD comes out people hate on it, like the opposite of zelda.
Yes
Maybe cause each Zelda keeps getting better?
I don't get it, IGN said that Twilight Princess was the best Zelda ever and then they said Ocarina Of Time is the best Zelda ever, AND THEN they said Wind Waker was the best Zelda ever and now this? DO THEY NOT WATCH THERE OWN FREAKIN' REVIEWS!!!!

Having watched this entire video three times, I can explicitly state with the utmost confidence that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is definitely a video game.
Breath of the Wild enters the chat 😄
I don't think so...
as cool as the motion controls were, they are not aging well.
I've always loved the motion controls and I wish Nintendo would make another Zelda game with them, but unfortunately I don't think my wish is ever going to come true

Yikes, that didn't hold up then and it sure as hell doesn't hold up now lol
For me, Twilight Princess was the greatest Zelda game. BotW is so much better than everything else in the series, it’s really an argument about the second best game.
Why not? It's got great story, and some of the coolest dungeons in 3D Zelda.
The combat could use a bit of work, but it was the best 3D Zelda combat until BOTW basically put every other game in the series to shame.

I just realised they say in every Zelda review "This is the best Zelda game"
I think that just goes to show that all Legend of Zelda games are equally good.
Except for the CDI
And Zelda 2
What the hell is wrong with Zelda 2? I just can't see why people hate on it. Just because it's different?
Hikari Yami It looked like a back-hand joke actually.
I liked it, but stopped after finishing death mountain (couldn't be bothered finishing)
Hikari Yami When I saw "Except Zelda 2", I didn't mean it wasn't as good. I just put it in another genre, because it's unique. It's still just as good as the rest, just, you know, unique

I agree with you
+DarkAdonis123 Yeah, with each revisit being quite different.
+Lord Raven you sure shut them up lol
+The worms inside of the dirt He didn't shut anyone up. I gave my opinion and he gave his. There was nothing more to be said behind it. I think it ranks low, he thinks it ranks high. Neither of us is right or wrong. Not everyone is going to bicker like dumbasses over video games.
DarkAdonis123 that was not opinions. They are facts. Each revisit is different, the impression does indeed have different strategies to beat it. Only opinions here is that he thinks that skyward sword is up there with other zelda games.

"This is the best Zelda game since Ocarina of time" - A Lnk Between Worlds
So.. make up your mind ignorants..
Can't wait to play this on the Switch in July.
the thing i love so much about this game is that it explains so much for the other games in the series! what the bird on the shield means. how hyrule became. etc :)
“Greatest Zelda game ever created” 😂
6 years later, that all changed (BOTW) - and 6 years after that, it changed all over again (TOTK)
Not the best Zelda game but definitely one of my favourites. The relationship between Link and Zelda in this game is so well done, much more so than in previous games.
Too much sky, should have got a 7.8
+Bender B. Rodriguez Too much sky, not enough ward
Sky? The sky has clouds. Clouds are made of water... There are clouds everywhere! Too much water 7.8 / 10.
1/10 Too much sky -IGN
Most realistic comment on here.
Really people This was just a filler game cant wait till Zelda U
Brandon Petruska OoT was the best, its old asf and it still got a 9.8
I fell like not only will Zelda u go back on all the advances skyward sword made, it will be fan service. Also known as oracle of windwaker's mask, twilight princess. Here's hoping this is wrong. Also, I love all the Zelda games, but I love the new stuff that comes. I hope to see a new game but still Zelda.
Dammit, now I want to go play Skyward Sword again. See you in 40+ hours.
So, how was it?
So, how was it?
pov: you've come to see how much ign contradicted themselves
It's not the same person reviewing the game

Link: The Faces of Evil was the greatest Zelda game, hands down.

The ancestor of YTPs :)
It's problably the most innovative Zelda game to date
The greatest Zelda game ever created LOLOLOLOLO
Now on the Wii U eshop for only $20.
Honestly, despite all your whining, I agree with this review. This IS the best Zelda game ever created, even surpassing Majora's Mask.
2d zelda is for exploring its land and 3d zelda is for the lore of zelda like adventure or exploring it all up to the person to decide
2015Chris bull
Sevrin Brown no its true 3d zelda were almost always were about the lore of hyrule and 2d zelda is about exploring the land
Joe savage Don't buy a motion control game if you don't want to move fat boy.
Lrdvltr I weigh 150 lbs, genius; and I don't have any problem with motion controlled games when they actually function properly, which they barely do in SS.
Joe savage Replace your Wii or WiiMote then.
no. There are a few things you need to account for.
do you like exploration? this game is for you
What about a good story? Take this game.
Art style? this is cel shaded.
thats pretty much it. this is more story than exploration
Man, this game had some of the best dungeons in a Zelda game!
totally agree!! Underrated!
If you want a dark game series all the way through, you are at the wrong place.
Go play Elder Scrolls then. Problem solved :)

Unlike most people, IGN isn't blind, and can see the true beauty of this game.
There is beauty to be had in the plot, visuals and characters yes, but not in the gameplay. Nor does it have that Zelda wonder.
Aaron Richey
You're welcome to your opinion as long as we agree that much of the "Zelda wonder" is entirely subjective.
Aaron Richey I think it greatly exceeds in the whimsical Zelda feel... And I found the gameplay to be enjoyable and loads of fun. I haven't had such an amazing Zelda experience since Wind Waker.

My top 5:
1. Ocarina of Time (3D)
2. Skyward Sword
3. A Link Between Worlds
4. A Link to the Past
There were 3 CDI games? I thought there was 2.
Dallas Siler
Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon
Link: The Faces of Evil
Zelda's Adventure - Unlike Wand of Gamelon and Faces of Evil, Zelda's Adventure is just like a top-down 2D Zelda game (like most Zelda games) but with Zelda as the playable character. Better than the first two CD-i Zelda games from what I seen but still bad.
Oh, I've never heard of Zelda's adventure.
Not only best game on Wii, not only best Zelda game my FAVORITE GAME
I kind of disagree with calling it the best Wii game, but it is one of my favorites.
I feel like the metroid prime trilogy was the best wii game
Charlie Brown how old are you?
for me its xenoblade followed by mario galaxy and skyward sword.
Arnaldonintendo for me its Opoona .... the greatest game ever made ...
My expectations were ridiculously high going into this game after hearing this review, and I was still blown away. What an amazing game
Let's be honest here. Twilight Princess was great, but all it really was was Ocarina of Time 2.0. Skyward Sword is better than Twilight Princess because it gave us a better world to explore, better controls, completely original, and on top of everything, a crap ton of fun to play.
"Better controls"
Yeah, I hated being actually able to do anything without the controls fucking up.
Hudesko The only sensible argument you had in that entire statement was the fetch quests. And even then, they're only bad a few times.
Definitely agree... People just rate twilight princess because it has a darker tone not because it's actually better than Skyward sword. Funny how no one mentions Twilight princess flaws such as a boring beginning (goat herding?), lifeless overworld and forgettable soundtrack
tigeremblem
You know why I can live with TP's slow beginning? Because you actually do something. In the beginning of SS you just run around talking to people without doing anything. Sure there's the Wing Ceremony but that's it.
People just cannot take off their nostalgia caps and face the facts. Totally agree man.

This game is hands down one of the best games ive ever played. Saying it is incredible is an understatement. Anyone that loves Zelda, or video games in general, I'm begging you to play this game. Fantastic.
Aged like a whole milk and roadkill smoothie.
lol the greatest Zelda game ever. i think not. everyone i have talked to who has played it said once the novelty wore off the game was ultimately forgettable.
Don't talk about it if you haven't even played it yourself you impaired handicapped dumbass.

His complaints irked me. I NEVER had a problem with the motion controls. It requires patience. Which he does not have if you watch game grumps haha.

Me watching this in 2022
IGN-“Motion control is the way of the future for the Zelda series”
Me- “well I’ve got news for you pal”
One of the worst reviews I have ever seen. Sounds completely bought off.
I think galaxy 2 is better
I really enjoyed Skyward Sword, and something that really pisses me off is when someone is bashing Skyward Sword for it's controls and calling it "unplayable"... .....-_-
Left-handed people are unable to play it....properly anyway. :/
either those people are lying or they were the idiots who rather than swinging it like a sword they decided to flail the remote around wildly. I had problems with the controls twice throughout my entire playthrough but that was when I decided to flail the control around wildly. It was my fault, not the game's.
Maybe it's because the controls DO make it borderline unplayable. Try to keep up.
This is the only IGN review that I actually agree with. :)
Skyward Sword was a good game but I felt myself frequently thinking a lot of things took a step backwards from previous Zelda games.
Comparing Twilight Princess (TP) to Skyward Sword (SS):
SS had great swordplay but worse use of several other items and worse aiming than TP.
I know it seems like a little thing to completely disregard a game over but I am not going to intentionally hinder my experience in a game just because the game developers were too lazy to add in a measly feature to allow me to play with my dominant hand.
im left handed and i found it perfect regardless
Breath of the Wild has quickly become my personal favorite Zelda game ever, but I still do love Skyward Sword. The Wii generation was incredible and people do not give it, or this game, enough credit.
Hello 2021. Glad to see yall here
It's honestly not the best Zelda. It really doesn't come that close in my opinion.
What does?
I just found the game to be boring. it was just boring and easy, and the motion controls weren't that great. I feel like Wind Waker is one of the better 3D Zelda's.
Zach Rios agreed
Cool Beans.
+Scott2781 each one of those are unique in their own right same for skyward sword....None of those are better than Skyward sword .Each zelda game all have things that out class each other in some way or another...Skyward sword bosses and dungeons outclass major as mask and orcarina. oases and dungeons...I enjoy the motion control so much that I feel like all zelda games should have it..I learned the mechanics behind the motion control and I never failed to perform a move...Major as mask has the best type of side quests
Love this game. I hate to see Nintendo falling apart now. I hope they come back.
Falling apart? No my friend they aren't falling apart.
don't worry 3DS is doing amazing and the Wii U will sell like crazy when Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, and the Zelda U game are released :)
foreversoccer98 I hope so.
foreversoccer98 fail
What's funny is that this is the same kind of enthusiasm people are using again now that the Switch is out. Nintendo IS falling apart. Think about it, the Switch is no more a home console than the PSP. That means that this is the first time in 30 years that Nintendo has not had a home console.
I like the Zelda series but they aren't all 10/10 games, stop kidding yourself IGN
+Dovahkiff but most of them are
+HappyLandofSorrow not really, there are definitely better games out there.
If most of them are 10/10 then there's really no point in the 10 scale if 10s are given out so frequently to games that are mostly good but not great or perfect.
+Dovahkiff Most Zelda games are great
Laurence Hammond sure, but not every Zelda game is a 10/10.
***** Care to explain?
"after slashing enemies with motion control I almost never wanna go back"
personaly, this is the only zelda game i did not feel like finishing because i dont like the controls, i prefer the old controller instead of waving a stick around the entire game. its fine to explore around the controllers with motion controling, but i really hope that nintendo goes back to the old controllers if and when they make a new zelda game on WII, WII-U or maybe a new console
Motion controls are the future of Zelda. Couldn't of been more wrong.
BOTW and TOTK with gyro:
Truly a masterpiece, from the beginning to the end.
Who is here after we got the new release for switch?
I’m not going to answer that.
@@danreyes736 lol why not
wowowo I forgot about this game. so I ask u now which one should I play first this, twilight, or wind waker? I just got my Wii u and itching to play Zelda
depends on your taste
+Anthony Zamora (Bakafish) Twilight > Wind waker > Skyward IMO
Bought for the Wii...but never beat it. Definitely buying for the Switch.
Definitely has one of the most memorable final bosses. Definitely stuck with me longer than breath of the wild's final boss
"It's the best Zelda game ever created"
BOTW: hold my beer
I loved this game. The world, the dungeons, the graphics. A masterpiece is the only way to describe it
This is by far my favorite Zelda game EVER.
This game completely deserves a 10, the later dungeons in the game are about 20 hours of the best gameplay in almost any game ive ever played
Lol wonder if you still feel that way today
Yeah....not too sure about that lol
Best Zelda game ever? Did the reviewer played Ocarina if time or Majora's mask?
"...Its the greatest Zelda game ever created."
*closes tab*
Played this game since it's release, got stuck on the last triforce piece for a year and a half. Came back and sat down for a whole 8 hours straight no eating, skipping a day of college and then smoking a tonne of weed when finished. Only night I ever blacked out from smoking mainly because of lack of food and not moving for 8 hours. Great game well worth the money!
Love these kinds stories
The best Zelda game got to be Windwaker, but Skyward sword is superb as well (as the other major zelda games: ocarina of time, twilight princess and majora's mask are)
