  • New tool alert! Join Chief Mechanic Eric Hawkins and engineer Jake as they cover the latest gear from Park Tool and keep you up-to-date with everything new (and old) in blue. In this episode, we introduce all-new T-handle hex & Torx®-compatible wrench sets, as well as a simplified version of our Wheel Holder. We also walk through incremental upgrades and improvements we've recently made to our Chain Scrubber, Truing Stand Extensions, and PRS-33 Power Lift Shop Stand.
    Plus, stay tuned for an interview with Art Engstrom, cofounder of Park Tool, as he and Eric talk about the first repair stands we ever made (it involves a truck axle, a printing press roller, and a kitchen table) and the company's bike shop origins.

    Let's be honest here... even at $50, that wheel holder would be pricey. And its $109? Come on guys...

    The history segment is great. Next installment, consider sitting quietly and allowing the founder to share the past at his own pace. You don’t need to tell us what he did when he’s right there to tell us himself. Shhhhh, stop interrupting the story.

    Park tool, to the consumers , is a good company because they create useful and efficient tools. And they keep updating them up to current technology standards. It is not a easy task for engineers and sourcing and costing department to work together and come up with the final product(s). Increasing cost, compatibility, change of materials, consumer satisfaction, ... there are tons of things to work on and to overcome. Sorry for my bad English but I am praising park tools. I'm a tool guy. I buy tools to add to my collection. Park is my go to for bike tools and I have quite a few now. Some I rarely use while others are more frequent. Those who think your tools are too expensive need to try some of your less expensive but quality tools and notice the difference. For me I enjoy working on bikes and to have not only the right tool but a good quality tool just adds too the fun. I saved up for about a year and bought my PCS-10. What a joy to get the bike up in the air at chest level and to even have the option to spin and lock it in position to work on. Just try some of their less expensive but very quality tools for your self and enjoy.

    On the PRS-33.2 why not add a foot pedal for the up-down controls? When you have tools in hand and your trying to do something it would make sense to have a remote foot pedal so you don't have to set things down.

    Love learning the history. I met Eric Hawkins long ago at a bike trade show. I presented him with one of my invented products that I had made for one of his tools. He was very nice and explained a few things. Basically that it was a cool idea but it wouldn't have enough sales due to the tool itself. But it was cool either way. I do have a question for anyone in the know-
    How does one Trademark a color? They apparently did it.

    What I want to know is: When will Park Tool fix their PTH-1? I use it with those blue shop paper towels, and the roll won't even...roll. I always have to sort ot unwrap the next paper towel from the stationary roll when I need one. I think it is a crying disgrace that the PTH-1 won't work with BLUE paper towels. Come on, Park Tool.
    Edit: Seriously, the PTH-1 is junk. I'd throw it in the trash but then I wouldn't have any place at all to put paper towels. So I guess it's better than nothing. But not by much.

    I gave you the idea of making the wheel holder to fit in your repair stand. Why have you not made something yet? If I am working out of the back of my car at a trailhead with a repair stand and no table, I need the option of clamping that wheel holder in a repair stand.

    The chain cleaner is JUNK. I've had two and they were used gently and they BOTH CRACKED! Park Tool said it's not their problem! Park Tool generally has NEVER stood BEHIND any of their tools! I've spent thousands $$$ and the few tools I've had issues with, they blame me even though I am a trained bike mechanic, frame building and have a degree in Mech. Engineering and Precision Machining.

      I've had issues with only two items from Park. One was the chain cleaner and it only had issues because I dropped it. I emailed them just looking for advice fixing it because I knew I broke it. They said not to worry they would send me a replacement part. Instead they shipped me a brand new cleaner and it works like a champ.

    I've used similar hex-tractor wrenches. I find they don't work on anything truly rounded out, with the exception of aluminum fasteners. However, they tend to chew up the interface beyond reasonable re-use, so I don't know why you wouldn't use an easy-out.

    • @parktool
      @parktool  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The extraction side would only be used when the normal hex side fails. A common cause of failure is simply poor engagement by a user, with the wrench partially installed. It ruins it for hex use, and that is where the hex-tractor side can help. An "easy-out" is an option but that required a drill and bit to get enough purchase for the easy-out.
