Darren, As always, thank you. Here's my special tip:I wrap a strip of athletic tape (cloth tape by Band Aid), 3 or 4 ply, around the ferrule of a brush and the tip of the vacuum attachment to prevent scratching. I use a, high quality 4 inch well used paint brush in this manner. Bonus, the more you use it the softer it gets. Works for me....

Yea thats much easier than sanding the vacuum attachment, thanks for the tip.

To make sure you don't causes damage use Griots Interior Cleaner.
Works very well and safe for any type of leather.
Yes it cost more but I'd rather pay for the cleaner than replacing a seat.

    Hey Darren,
Found and viewed a couple of your videos ( love managing expectations). I'm also a pro detailer working on Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mazeratis everyday doing mostly paint correction but everything else naturally. Just a comment quickly- I have used Meg's APC properly diluted on some leather sprayed on directly just like in the video and it has left droplet marks on Ferrari leather that stand out quite a bit, like it over cleaned that spot, has happened a couple times. Meg's works well to clean but now I am extremely cautious and spray directly on MF towel instead of seats. Just like you said when you pass the point of no return, it's a bad feeling. Thought I would pass that on, love the real world advice/ tips you pass on. Ralph

Good and valid examples from the "front line" of the real world. I try to add in each video (doing better at this) that no two things are exactly alike in any car. For this reason, you should always check, verify, and then proceed based on the results. Most automotive leather (high or low end) is coated with a water-based clear protective coating. But with that said, I do occasionally come across leather that will instantly turn a different "shade of color" due to it being uncoated. I have found in my world at least, that as I clean it, and it dries, it is all good. Not only is every manufacturer different, but each manufacturer will source its materials form different sources and it can change without any notice given to any of us.
So regardless of what I am cleaning, I will always start with the least aggressive, and move forward, and always verify and check results before proceeding. I have very few surprises in my world these days, but they still happen even in my world after 25+ years...whether I am working on a car, boat, or RV.
I would love to hear (as would probably many others) what you end up making hourly doing paint correction as a rule, and what do you find most profitable as far as detailing period goes. I honestly do as little paint correction as possible these days for various reasons.....
Regardless, thanks for tuning in and thanks for the insight.

I have a 2015 ford explorer with black leather and I bought chemical guys leather cleaner and conditioner that is before I saw your videos and read info on your website so if I use the meguiars APC on the leather I do a 10 to 1? Also what kind of brush would be good to use on the leather I wanna make sure the seats stay really clean so by using a brush and the APC that should do the trick I also know conditioners are a waste but I do it for my own piece of mind lol

Darren - I have watched several of your videos and find them very helpful. I found them while searching for the best clean and protect for leather seats I have in my two vehicles: '12 Dodge Challenger SRT (44,xxx miles) and '13 Ram pickup (13,xxx miles). Neither are visibly dirty but I am sure they have dirt on/in their seats and trim. I have "protected" them so far after cleaning with after market protectors but want to do this correctly with your help.
The Challenger SRT has "Radar Red" colored interior. Chrysler's idea (or copy of someone's idea) is to fill the bottom center of the seat and back center of the seat with suede to help keep your butt and back located when cornering. The questions for this vehicle: what is the best way to clean the suede? And, is there a best method/product to protect the suede? I am now confident on how to clean the leather and vinyl of the seats (thanks to your videos!) but not how to protect them. Unless I missed the video where you state to either NOT protect or what product(s) to use, I don't have that info.
On the Ram, it has "Light Frost Beige" (tan) leather with "Canyon Brown" (dark brown) leather and vinyl accents. No suede here but still would like to know the best protection after cleaning. By the way, I have ordered the Meguiar's APC and Super Degreaser for cleaning the leather, vinyl, floor mats, etc. Thank you! Tony

First off, it is very unlikely the "suede" in the car is not actually suede, but a synthetic "suede like" material like Alcantara. It can be cleaned with the same methods. As far as protecting these types of "Suede" or "suede like" materials, you can use a fabric protector like the one in this link: www.best-auto-detailing-tips.com/auto-upholstery-protector.html Protecting any vinyl/leather is an individual call. Since they are not porous like fabric/carpeting/etc. protection is based on your meaning of protection. I professionally and personally don't use much in the way of leather/vinyl dressings/protectants. I have found that simply keeping them clean is the biggest battle. I have car leather that is 15+ years old and I have never applied a dressing and the leather looks excellent. Some guys like it, some don't. There will be forever debate on the subject and you will hear/read endless opinions.
In case you haven't seen this page, have a good read; it is very comprehensive: www.best-auto-detailing-tips.com/clean-leather-car-seat.html

    Hey Darren,
A little off the subject of cleaning the leather seat, but I was wanting to know if you have any better ways to clean the seat belts.(I noticed the yellow seat belts in the Porsche and thought what a nightmare to clean if they get dirty), I am constantly finding dirty seat belts if you pull them out, where they normally would be if you were sitting in the car. The even worse area is the back seat not just the belt that pulls out but also the ones that are down in the seat. Kids with food, soda, soccer dirt you name it. Liquid always seems to spill on the seat where the seat belt sits, down in the seat and turns brown on lighter colored cars..
    Thanks!

Great question and seat belts remains on my list as one of the few areas I have not come up with a better way to clean. Back when I used a pressure washer, we would pull the seat belt out to maximum pull, then lay it against the outside of the car (this requires 2 people) and saturate with degreaser. One guy would hold it in place against the car, the other would use the pressure washer to hose it clean.
I am currently experimenting with some chemicals and some off-label use to see if I can come up with a solution to this common problem.
D- (and yes, the yellow seat belts are going to be a nightmare!)

what do APC chems do to the expensive leather after years of use? Can't believe it would be good, even to the coating on the leather.

Is this the video on what not to do? Never wet the seat like that you will ruin it due to the perforations on the leather.

    Darren,
How would you moisturize Cayman Porsche 2016 dashboard? Can I use Porsche’s Genuine Porsche Leather Conditioner on the dash?

Dirt and grime damage leather. Products that better remove dirt and grime will help prevent leather damage by reducing the root cause of leather damage.
