@belerinah😂couldn't agree more as you should! I too love a mesmerizing multi or duochrome myself. Not necessary in bright colors but still makes it seem like you spend some time adding multiple eyeshadow shades instead of just 1 or 2. For some reason an all matte eyeshadow look doesn't suit me and makes me feel and look crusty and dusty. A metallic or a fine glitter or at least somewhat of a sheen or satin finish makes me more alive looking. Wish I could pull off an all matte because it does look very chique/90's but I guess it doesn't work for everyone....
I LOVE the 'work-appropriate or what' conversation. Every workplace is different and every team inside the workplace is different. Thank you for kicking this off for us, the ideas you shared are great and I can confirm they work. Forest greens, olive greens, peaches, burgundies, and deep purples all work for me and look nearly neutral on me. Heck, they sometimes look better than neutrals because of how they play with my undertones. I'm I'm going to add my own recommendation, the ace beuate ambiance palette has all those colors :)
I have watched you for a VERY long time and this is the first time I've felt compelled to comment, because I can't tell you how much it means to me that I can see your actual skin when the camera is close up. I mean really, like, makes me tear up seeing how makeup looks on other people because it makes me feel NORMAL. You are beautiful. Thank you!
The HD quality of her videos is astounding. The clarity and lighting are the best out of all that I am subbed to. Plus she’s a fantastic teacher with an awesome vibe!
I love colourful eye makeup at work! I wanted to add some tips that Alex actually touched on but did not spell out. Easiest colours to incorporate are jewel or earthy tones, because by definition they have a natural quality. Also, you can match to your clothes/jewellery like Alex did to her earring, because it'll look cohesive. Lastly, depending on your work, you might be surprised at how much you can get away with, some people truly don't care.
So helpful! I don’t work in an office, but I’m tentative about color. I have aging skin and I’m concerned about textures emphasizing my skin texture or just looking silly on a woman my age. This video showed me how I can experiment and do it elegantly! Thank you!
I am working as a childminder.. I love makeup and colour. Very often I am putting full face of makeup with bright eye. Green, orange, blue, sparkly, matt - whatever tickle my pickle that day and my children love it! They always checking in the morning what colour is on my eyes. So thankfully there is no such think as work appropriate makeup in my setting. Still, it was a pleasure to listen to you as always. Love from London x
You are so right. I work in Customer Service retail. A Customer was in awe and shock as to how bright my eyeshadow was. Only then, I realized it was *that* bright. Oh well. Continued on with my day's work.
This is a much needed video topic. I work in an extremely conservative legal environment. I love makeup and I wear more makeup than anyone else in my office. Most are into the no makeup look and/or literally wear none. I am almost 58, light skin tone, and have a blonde pixie just like you. I do put a shimmer shade on my lid in the middle. It’s just my preference. I’ve actually gone so far as to mention to others when an opportunity arose that makeup to me is art and it’s who I am. Now, having said that, I am not wearing crazy makeup. No multichromes. In any other setting it would be perfectly normal but in my workplace it is hitting the boundaries. 🤷♀️
Everything you call "not work appropriated" is what I wear for work in our office. And we are a big global player 😂😂😂😂. I am a really colourful person and often wear colourful makeup or some glitter. I think in the meantime everyone knows that I am like that and accepts it 😊
Actually, this just reinforces the fact that you are so good at what you do. This is more relatable to me (I'm 61 and have worked in an office for ages) than some of your other content, although I do watch them all 😎 Great tips on how to be confident and elegant in a professional environment.
Your ideas are encouraging. In my mid-sixties I discovered that using burgundy or deep purple eyeliner made my hazel eyes stand out more, even with glasses on. Now that I'm in my seventies, I'm getting more adventurous with colors like bronze with some shimmer. Your points about color choices are really helpful. ❤
As far as colored mascaras go… I have a mid to fair olive skin tone and often wear dark purple mascara. My more fair complexioned coworker does also. You can barely even notice it on me. It’s akin to me wearing a dark brown mascara, but with a slight pop of color instead. It’s a tad more noticeable and very beautiful against my coworker’s fair skin and her light hair. It isn’t overly obvious since it’s of similar tone to the darker hues generally associated with eyelash color. I’ve also worn cobalt blue mascara and eyeliner. You only noticed it when getting up close to me and I received a lot of compliments on it! All neutral shadows (if any).
I just wanted to say that purples and pinks on me can easily look “neutral” it’s just about not overly applying (if you’re cool toned) and keeping it sheer. I do often wear pink and purple for work on my eyes but I just keep it light on the black liner etc ❤ love this video! thank you for the tips!! it helps that we can use our collections that we have and not feel like we have to go out and buy new neutral eyeshadows
@@AlexandraAneleYou’re so welcome. I’ve been watching your channel for a few years now & I’m so grateful for you. We share the obsession of loving to take a long time on doing our makeup. 💖😆👏👏👏
I have light green/hazelish eyes and like to use a raisin shade mascara for work. It looks brown unless you get close, just with that slight purple tint framing the green eyes which helps to make them pop.
I love to wear colorful shadows to work--but I have the excuse of wearing glasses and I want people to see my eyes. Also I'm a teacher, so they expect me to be slightly weird. I don't go full drag queen or anything but I really enjoy the positive energy I get from color or a bit of sparkle.
I’ve only worked one office job, and it was a quality assurance specialist and I wore all sorts of crazy dramatic makeup. I only ever got compliments, even when regional management would drop in for a visit. I just think that any makeup can be work appropriate, but of course I know not everyone shares that same sentiment
I feel this is HIGHLY dependent on where you work, but still good info to have for other situations where you want to "be you," but tone it down. Meeting your s.o.'s family, etcetera . I also feel that people who have medium to fully deep skin tones could totally go with a full opacity, dainty wing, for instance, in one of the jewl-tone multichromes from any of the Lightwork palettes! Or, using one of the multichrome gel liners from Kalaidos or Sugar Drizzle in the waterline. As a walking water bottle, if I still went to a workplace, I'd rock my white/gray-based multichromes in this way to work. Even with the aforementioned Kalaidos gel liners, some of the colours have lighter bases. I can scribble on a whole-assed, huge wing with Tourmaline, and still have it be subtle. Ish. Depending on what's going on everywhere else. I remember a time when we had to hide our tattoos and put clear retainers in our visible, non-ear-lobe piercings. We couldn't have "unnatural" hair colour, and counterintuitively, anyone with 4C hair couldn't wear natural/protective styles. ( "It looked *unprofessional*" 🤬). This wasn't even that long ago. What you can and can't do with your appearance at work depends on your career, sadly. Aside from the shotcallers, or, those who have the luxury of not being able to give a fok, whether by virtue of a cushy fall-back, or like myself, spicy neural wiring.
Alexandra, I've always wanted to incorporate color, but the TH-camrs I've seen that like color, I always find that it's too much color for me. Thank you very much, your video helped me a lot. A hug from Chile 😘
It is very interesting how office appropriate make has shifted over the years. What is office appropriate depends so much on where, as well as industry. NY and DC more conservative while Miami definitely not. So even in conservative fields color was more appropriate. Also cultural influences matter. Latin culture has always been about full makeup and color was embraced, especially in lips. I have worked in finance field for almost 40 years. When I started it was mostly men so we had to be deliberate about the in clothes, hair and makeup. This is where I started my love with luxury makeup. At that time I wore a full face of Chanel with the occasional other brands. I wore a full face of makeup with strong lips. Then the 90s came and I embraced the smoky look with red lips. I also wore suits but in strong colors and thus coordinated makeup accordingly. I became friends with the makeup artists for the brands and learned techniques from them. Once my career was established I did not care much but I wore neutrals, especially cool toned or greys, my Tom Ford era. That said I loved navy liner and experimented with navy shadows. Over the last ten years, and when I started watching TH-cam and especially about indie makeup, then color came into my life big time! I have very hooded eyes…I stared by using bold color on the lid, which you can only see when I blink. My younger colleagues were surprised and in love with my look. I think that color is appropriate just about anywhere if applied strategically and in a cohesive look. This is exactly what you demonstrated! Thank you for a great video!
I wear a lot of coloured limers as my way to incorporate colour at work, sometimes match my mascara also. but my workplace is pretty low-key, as far as they go. loved this video 😁
I needed this! To be frank i wear glitter and color all the time as a step down nurse at a hospital and I'm starting to get tired of hearing people saying I'm always matching scrubs and etc. I wanna switch it up and not lose my identity just because people say something! Love the video ideas!!!❤❤❤
Alex this is exactly the type of video I needed without realizing it myself so thanks😊. I love to wear some colour (not full on but some hues of olive or slightly golden brown etc.) Basically a little bit of a slightly spicey neutral kinda shade.
I wear bronzer or blush on the lids topped with a sheer smattering of the DM glitter (the golden liquid one in the tube). Wouldnt wear it to an interview, but for normal workdays, you'll have to tear my glitter from my cold dead hands haha
I’m the queen of “a bit much” makeup for work. I appreciate this video! I love the liner ideas. I need to practice liner more with the saggy eye corners.
There was definitely a time in my life when I was more conservative with my makeup for work, but now I own the business and nobody gets to tell me what to wear. I love glitter and I will glitter or shimmer or duochrome whenver I want. In fact, with my very hooded eyes, I love wearing a shimmer or glitter on my actual lid because when I look straight ahead, you can only see the barest hint of light or sparkle, which actually opens and brightens my eyes. So... yeah... at 53, I've a devoted glitter gal.
I love your application technique so much. Precision of a surgeon, delicacy of a butterfly. Such a calming feeling and I can always rely on it from you
I’m so grateful for your reviews and comparisons. Having straight Asian lashes and oily skin, and also not wanting to spend high end prices, your review was exactly what I needed!!
I love these suggestions. As a 44-year old, this still allows me to play with color without looking silly, heavy handed or too old for the trend. Keep it up Alex! ❤
Long time fan but I just started this vid and what you just said you need to repeat! The shade you laid down first was a tone *in between your contour and bronzer shade* in not a glam girl by any means but finding tones and shades that work for me is always a stuggle. This is the BEST way to keep things cohesive? I think😍!
❤🎉 Alex that's beautiful thank you for featuring VISEART!! I have a Coy Petite Shimmer palette and as an older woman I have no qualms wearing and blending the eyeshadows -- the formulas and shades are just that good !! Love you, your demos, and your channel!! 😍❤️😊🎥
Im a vet tech and Ive been wearing glittery, colorful makeup looks for over 10 years to work. Makes the day a little brighter and cheery. I love to match the makeup with my scrubs
I'm pretty lucky to work in a creative field of work where I can wear any make-up. I'm usually wearing corporate goth and darker make-up and lipstick but sometimes i do wear rainbow eyeshadow to work. I depot my eyeshadow and put it in magnetic pallets so I can make a new colour story every week and actually use my eyeshadow collection.
I wear whatever I feel like to work. Sometimes just bronzer in the crease, sometimes red and sparkling duo chromes. I think that things have changed a lot.
Hi, Alex! I’ve been watching you since the beginning of the COVID pandemic and I haven’t stopped watching your videos since! I’ve been in a creative rut because I want my makeup to be work appropriate without losing the fun creative side that I love about makeup so much! So thank you I needed your valuable advice!
One way I enjoy wearing some snazzy, high impact or duochrome shades is to use them as a smudged liner UNDER my eye look. I smudge the fun product immediately after I set my eye base with a skin match shadow & then follow with one of my "basic" shadow combos (contour & deepen outer corner to shape/mask hooded lids with appropriate mattes, emphasize lid a bit, blend thoroughly). There's still pizzazz, but applying & blending my "basic" eye over top of an exotic shade/finish automagically makes it appropriate for almost any setting 😉
I wear glasses and have hooded eyes so I’ve always just gone nuts with the cat eyeliner. All colors - I match my outfit or my mood. My eyes are dark dark green most people think they’re brown and I’m a very light skinned redhead with freckles. I like the color and contrast and work in a VERY conservative space and no one has ever hassled me about my eyeliner.😊
Hello Alexandra, I love your videos, always interesting themes. Personally, to give a touch of color to my makeup, I like to use navy blue eyeliner, it gives my makeup a boost without overdoing it.💙💙💙
Just yesterday I was watching a very dramatic and bright makeup look tutorial right after your video on how not to hate your makeup, and I had Thoughts. And this video fits perfectly! I love to try my hand at bold blocks of colour eyeshadow when it fits the occasion and more importantly, when I don't have to leave for work in ten. I know the 'pop of colour' gets laughed at and called basic sometimes but I love it for workdays!
I don't consider bold makeup inappropriate even when I work customer service but I do feel a bit different when I wear it and I do get looks which isnt always wanted. To be fair bright inner corner + bright liner also gets looks but it's still less of a Statement. Those two with a neutral shimmer lid and boom done. No mascara bc ppl tell me it looks too much real quick. Kinda funny bc most of my other colleagues wear zero makeup except for mascara
That sheered out shadow look is something i have done for weddings with the abh cosmos. Very natural base but a small pop of duochrome coral/gold to keep it tame but fun.
I’m 66 and worry sometimes that I’m overdoing my make up when I go into the office. I love make up but want to look good and not like Norma Desmond ready for my close up. This video was really helpful for me personally. Thanks.
Thank you, this was really interesting and helpful. Though i don't mind wearing "stronger" makeup in the office, i appreciate the tipps and will definitely try it myself.😊😊
Can you please do a eye makeup tutorial for hooded eyes using pastel colors and which colors will suit best on olive skin for a sparkly pastely doyuin makeup look? Love this video.
Back in my previous (shitty) work, doing my makeup was my joy of the day, because I was exhausted so 1) It needed to be done so I don't look like a zombie, and 2) I had no time or energy to do any other artistic activities. So I usually took 30 minutes everyday to match my makeup, my clothes, my nails, and my hairstyle, and put all my artistic frustrations into it. Afterwards I sometimes had the pleasure of getting complimented by the clients, wich brightened my days. Usually I don't need other's approval, but here I was depressed so in reality what I wanted to hear was "congrats, you made it out of bed, congrats, you survived x hours without crying", but ofc it wasn't possible so I choose to trigger the kind of compliments who were possible for other people than my therapist to make 😂 (because I needed to hear some positive things to counterbalance the negative things my boss was telling me). So yeah I did do pretty colorful makeup at work, and luckily nobody told me I wasn't allowed too (I didn't ask lmao) 😂
At this point if nobody says anything to me about my makeup, I wear multichromes and glitter if I please lmao
I like it 💪🏼
Me too
Same. I’m not customer facing and my manager doesn’t care if I wear red lipstick or glitter on my face

Stunning as usual. I love the coral and will try it ASAP.
Love this. So subtle. Thank you.
I wear whatever I feel like to work. Sometimes just bronzer in the crease, sometimes red and sparkling duo chromes. I think that things have changed a lot.
You remind me so much of the actress Sophia Loren especially with that makeup look that you showed with the soft winged eyeliner. Beautiful! 💗
Thank you, Alex! You are awesome🙂
Great Work Appropriate makeup tips Alex. And such a pretty look. Thank you bunches as it really helped me. Your awesome ladybug.
I’m so excited 💕
I live in Japan and here it's all about glitter! You see nude/pink shimmery eyeshadows everywhere and it's perfectly appropriate for work.
One of my co-workers (she was European) matched her eyemakeup to her outfit in clever ways. It looked professional and classy, but was also fun.
If my coworkers can wear shorts and Birkenstock sandals, then I'm wearing a little sparkle or color on my eyelids and they can deal.
I love a colored eyeliner for work- usually go with navy, dark green, and plumb. Nothing too obvious, like you said, but interesting.
Hello Alexandra, I love your videos, always interesting themes. Personally, to give a touch of color to my makeup, I like to use navy blue eyeliner, it gives my makeup a boost without overdoing it.💙💙💙
The video I've been needing!!! Ty Alex!
Wow that Gisele photo 🔥🔥🔥 also how you adapted the pink eyeshadow look to your skin tone 💯💯💯
What a phenomenally executed video idea/concept! Thank you 🤩
Such informative video thank you and I have been following your content you make makeup easy to apply and own what I love❤
5:40 Surprised to see you have this palette! So cute it is.
Whatever is on your lips is beautiful!
That teal eyeliner is gorgeous on you! I have never thought about my makeup being work appropriate or not 🙄🤣
You are so talented 🙌🏻
😩🙏🏼
That sheered out shadow look is something i have done for weddings with the abh cosmos. Very natural base but a small pop of duochrome coral/gold to keep it tame but fun.
TH❤️NK YOU!!
This is exactly the kind of information and ideas I am looking for!
I’m 66 and worry sometimes that I’m overdoing my make up when I go into the office. I love make up but want to look good and not like Norma Desmond ready for my close up. This video was really helpful for me personally. Thanks.
Lol. Norma Desmond.
Thank you so helpful love the subtle look ❤
"Lisa Eldridge is my queen." No truer words have ever been spoken. Long live the queen.
Beautiful, Alex!
So helpful! Another banger!
😩 that eyeshadow is so pretty
Thank you, this was really interesting and helpful. Though i don't mind wearing "stronger" makeup in the office, i appreciate the tipps and will definitely try it myself.😊😊
Can you please do a eye makeup tutorial for hooded eyes using pastel colors and which colors will suit best on olive skin for a sparkly pastely doyuin makeup look? Love this video.
Haha this is so niche. It doesn't apply to me at all but I'd watch.
@@catetanenbaum2418Yeah, it kind of is very specific. 😅🤣
Ooo I want to see this video too. It applies to me and everything
Omg I love your videos , alex pls do a video on how to make the face more feminine with makeup !!!
Love this! Love to wear colors but it can be a bit overwhelming since I don't really wear face make-up, so this is perfect!
I’m beyond giving a shit about what is “appropriate” 😅
Love this ❤️
Schooled!! Thanks!😊👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Love this tutorial! VERY practical!
Thanks! That was helpful. I push the envelope!
