    #Mailbag - Great tips, just what I was looking for on the voiceover techniques, thanks! (Would have loved a quick spontaneous demo of the difference in sound if you got right up tight to the mics as you answered the foam question - both to hear the more intimate sound in a quick A/B comparison, and to hear the plosives that came with it sans foam. Or heck, then with a quick +foam comparison, and you have a #Challenge for all things voiceover with live sound demo. But I think what you’ve got here has me headed down the right path.)

    #mailbag To set expectations first; we're in amateur/enthusiast mode here. We're planning on recording a bike trip where we will have vlog-style talking between driver and passenger mixed with actual bike-riding. We have a compact video setup using the DJI Action cameras that works for both in-car and bike riding, but we're kind of stumped when it comes to decent quality audio you can fit safely in a light backpack that fills the need for both in-car (reducing noise) talking and picking up track sounds and talking while riding. Any tips or tricks would be much appreciated. Cheers!

    #mailbag Are there any downsides to mixing wireless lavs of different brands on set? For example, a 3 pax interview and I only have 2 of the same brand. Could using another brand for the 3rd mic cause interference or anything else?

  • @jaykeystone

    #mailbag I record a podcast every week and we sometimes get interference from cell phones on the table when they receive a notification. I normally ask everyone to put their phones in airplane mode before recording, but occasionally one of us forgets and the noise sneaks in the recording. I invested in some nice star-quad cables, but it does very little (if anything) to prevent the crackling noise. Is there anything else I can do as an extra measure or prevention? In case it matters, I do use condenser mics.

    #mailbag What do you look for when you're scouting locations as a sound person?

    • @jaythecreative7506
      @jaythecreative7506 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a location sound mixer myself I typically start looking for the biggest sound related offenders such as highways, nearby airports, train tracks, etc. From there I take a look at the weather to see how much wind I'm going to have to contest with that day to determine the amount of wind protection that I need. I've always felt that half of the battle comes from your initial location scouting as you have to determine where you're going to get the least amount of noise pollution.
      I also take a look to see if there is natural ambient noise that fits the scene that we are shooting. If it is a sports film and the main character is playing soccer during the day I may want ambient elements that help to enhance the realism, but you can of course add the additional layer of SFX in post so it is up to you. I hope that this helped in some way!

    Hi! I wanna know if the Deity S-Mic 2 is waterproof or is it water resistant ? #MAILBAG

    • @DeityMicrophones
      @DeityMicrophones  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Water resistant because we didn't get it officially IP rated, plus in the world of microphones, "waterproof" means it's designed to operate underwater which the S-Mic 2 is not. The W.Lav Pro we make is waterproof and can totally be used and operated underwater. The S-Mic 2 can be dunked, but needs to dry off before using again. There's loads of stress tests out there of people doing this if you'd like to see.

    • @DeityMicrophones
      @DeityMicrophones  4 ปีที่แล้ว
