I gotta say, it's really going full face strong and that's a good thing. But, what happened to motorcycle boots? Vans, Nikis, etc? I guess it's back to cool vs. safety.
@@fps636 I had all my gear on except for gloves, so my hands got tore up pretty bad. Wearing Vans or flip flops are for those who have never taken the ambulance ride. I’m an old guy, so I always wear traditional biker stuff and don’t give a shit who thinks I’m cool. Old school bikers wore jackets, gloves and boots for a reason.
As someone who has hit the asphalt at 60mph with no helmet or gear other than tshirt shorts and flip flops. Helmets don’t suck as much as weeks in ICU and permanent skin grafts on your head and road rash scars. Accident was completely not my fault but if I had worn the simplest gear I would’ve just went home dirty. Btw subscribed!
I have a big head, there are brands/models where 3XL won't fit on my melon. Other brands/models the 2XL works. It saved my bacon a few weeks ago, when I got hit from behind by a pickup truck that followed me too closely (he got cited by state patrol for that) and I was behind a few cars that were swerving and braking for a duck family crossing the highway. I applied brakes as well, heard tires screech behind me, felt a bump, got lifted up and got slammed into the front of the truck, then landed on the street. Helmet got scratched up, back protector saved my spine on impact and I'm still alive and recovering well. I agree with you on not mandating stuff, I think it's everybody's personal responsibility. But I do strongly encourage everybody to gear up completely. The impact armor does help, I experienced it and am still walking because of it. Good video.
I always wear a helmet. 13 years ago I was wearing a half helmet when I hit a deer with my bike while doing about 50. I was lucky enough to walk away, but with my upper lip split clean trough and other abrasions to my face. I was told that without the helmet I'd probably be dead. Since I refused to stop riding when my wife asked me to, I did agree to always wear a full face helmet. May not be comfortable all the time, but it beats the alternative. Great channel!
As someone who works in an ER I am so glad you wear a helmet. Some of the worst horrors I regularly see are either drivers who don't wear a seatbelt and bikers who don't wear helmets and other protective gear. Ditto when alcohol is involved.
What warmed my heart and proved you're a damn good guy, "my daughter is worried and I'm wearing a helmet to comfort her" Good job. We all want you to be safe. Looking forward to the Live Stream!
Helmets are optional for licensed cycle riders here in PA but as I always say "just because you can, doesn't mean you should". Just wear one, oh and don't drink and ride.
I live in Pa and was heading out for a lunch break ride and was going to go without a helmet and then thought I would grab a half helmet. As I reached for it I was overcome with the thought that if I felt the need for a helmet I should wear a helmet, and grabbed a full face HJC hanging there. 40 minutes later a deer ran into the side of my front wheel and I high sided, into intensive care for a week. The helmet was destroyed, along with my leather jacket, boots and jeans! I always wear a full face helmet now!
@@ronaldthomas9396 i think the only ones who dont wear. Helmet are the ones who never took an ambulance ride or it was the coroner an didnt live to tell the story. Im in pa and ive always road a sportbike and a full face helmet at minimum. Last year went off the bike at 120 and only broke my collar bone. Helmet saved me no doubt. This year i got a harley and still wear a full face helmet. Im in Pa as well and get alot of "peir pressure" that a full face isnt cool on a harley from my friends who dont wear one. I wish it was law in pa and everywhere.. so some people dont cave to that peir pressure. I say idgaf how i look im still enjoying the ride and i dont have to pick the big ass bugs out of my teeth
@@harrycack9936 It's peer, not pier, and you're a pretentious prick. You can wear whatever you want, and it'll never bother me, but your wish for more laws bothers me plenty.
@@ProfessionalMonkey it’s just my opinion but just go with a full face flip up module helmet. I’ve gone through just about all the style helmets you displayed. Shoei, Simpson make some cool looking modular helmets but they are expensive. With a modular helmet, you can have a clear conversation at a stop light without having to yell. You can easy take a sip of water or eat a quick snack without having to take your helmet off. Also if it gets too hot, just flip it up. I currently run a VEGA modular helmet although not the most popular or expensive helmet, It has everything I needed.
I just purchased a Shoei module helmet and yes it’s expensive. But isn’t your brain worth the best you can buy? Like you said it’s an individual decision and I’m trying to wear it in place of my half. It’s work in progress. Good video.
I agree that it’s your choice on helmets. I’m totally against more laws. Personally I wear a helmet all the time. When I was a young teenager my Dad said to me,”Son, as you know you don’t have many brain cells!” So I figure I have to protect what little brain cells I have... Just a suggestion on your Bilt well helmet. If they have a flip up face shield for it consider getting it. This way your not locked into a fixed one and you can get air partially with it cracked open or all the way up at stops.
I was in a motorcycle accident in 1983 wearing a full face helmet. Road rash on the helmet not my head. With being in Northern Michigan I prefer the full face because of the weather. Could be 80 when you leave in the morning and 40 with rain when you get back.
I know the feeling. I love the freedom of wearing only sunglasses. BUT: My life has been saved twice by helmets. Back about 1982, I ran a Norton Commando into a pine tree while being stupid on a mountain rode. The Simpson Mod. 61 was completely crushed as I hit, flying horizontally. It had tree bark on the inside. I broke my back, but I didn't have so much as a headache. The helmet at one time was on display at a Simpson distributor. Might still be there with the wood still sticking out of it. The second time was on I-75 in Kentcky. It was super hot, and I stopped at the Welcome Center to get a drink of water. I strapped my helmet down on my seat to ride without it. As I got ready to get back out on the highway, I had a bit of a premonition. Something told me I had to wear it. I took off the straps and put the Shuberth helmet back on. Less than 2 hours later, I rear ended a car and was launched like a mortar. I landed head first on the asphalt and damaged my neck badly. Those would have been two certain death accidents had I not been wearing.
I went from not using a helmet, now I own 4, every once in a while I’ll take a short trip to town without it, and I don’t feel comfortable without it now. I’m seeing more and more people using them.
Funny you mention you were born in the 70's...I've been riding for 50-years now...and I've been through the WHOLE RANGE of 'helmet' thoughts. When I was young, I wore them because...dirtbikes-and-trees don't mix well. When I was older, well, it wasn't cool...better to 'die fast' than suffer. Older-still, it was 'hey, law says I don't have to now', so I didn't...but past 50 years old, I started realizing just how FRIGGIN' BAD 4-wheelers were driving (wasn't always THIS bad...was it?)...and seeing enough die over time from what should have been 'sign my cast' time, otherwise...I bit the bullet, went out and bought a really nice Bell helmet...3/4 (just like the old days)...only, I'm old, curious and resentful of 'cheap sales' in general, I wanted to know all I could about helmets...and one of the first thing I found was that MOST who DO wear helmets don't have the FIRST CLUE about how they work, why they work, and how to take care of them (or when to replace them). I wear a helmet now, all the time...I'm old, I'm gray, I'm bald...and the Marine Corps taught me one key concept...dying is a lot less cool than someone laughing at you for your damn headgear. Here's a link of Dietmar Otte's 'Helmet Impact Chart'...and the irony is, MOST INJURIES come from the area of your face where it is covered by the full helmet (chin strap). Adam Sandoval also has a great video on his channel, where he explains some of the 'how it protects you', and cuts a helmet apart to show you what he's talking about. pages.uncc.edu/visualrhetoric/wp-content/uploads/sites/651/2014/04/helmet-impact.jpg th-cam.com/video/OyC-u6V6drk/w-d-xo.html
I wear a bell race star, has a bunch of safety ratings. Its $800 but man the build quality compared to a $150 helmet is insane lol bell makes some good helmets
When riding in Florida, I have tried riding without a helmet . Generally speaking, I hate having the wind dry my eyes while my skin is punished with sand, rain and bugs. A properly fitted helmet provides protection from the elements, reduces noise and generally makes riding long distances more pleasant (I never owned a bike with a protective fairing). Even if my state allowed me to ride helmetless, I still would. However, I support choice and dont feel a need to force my opinion on others. In regards to helmet laws I would vote on rider choice.
I’m with ya man. I get it, too. I have a four year old daughter and the thought of her losing her dad to selfishness and stupidity of not wearing a helmet drives me to wear a full face every time I ride despite distance or temperature. I have found the Shoei Neotec II to be extremely comfortable for me.
@@ProfessionalMonkey picked up the Shoei Neotec II myself a year ago. I was apprehensive about the cost as well, but because of comfort, fit, and the modular functionality, I ended up wearing it more than other helmet I've ever had, worth every penny.
There are several great modular helmets to choose from out there.... Ranging from $200-$800 You really do get what you pay for!! That's the one piece of gear worth going all in. Most have the drop down sun visors and when riding with the face shield up for air flow, you still have eye protection. You can raise the front to communicate with others when necessary. Get the right modular and you will never go without it.. The ratchet chin straps are a great feature!!! Safe travels my friend 👊
Love this channel! I went thru the same progression of helmets as you over the years for the same reasons. Seemingly “minor” accidents were taking too many of our friends lives. The day my wife told me she was pregnant with our first, she asked me to please do 2 things. Sell my hang glider, & wear a good helmet. That was in ‘81, right before I got t-boned by a drunk. Lost the left leg on impact, and slid so far (face down) that the forehead & chin-piece were ground down thinner than a piece of paper. Honestly, without it, everything between my forehead & Adam’s apple would have been GONE! I never even thought about using the puddin’ bowl again. Great channel, man. Great content. Keep ‘em coming.
Great video, love the channel! I had the same crack in my fuel moto head pipe last spring, same place as yours. I never bothered sending it back because they were out of stock at the time, was easier to hire a local welder for not much more than the cost of shipping. Good for you standing your ground on having them send you a new pipe! Keep up the great work!
In WA where I live, helmets are required so...I have two helmets. I have the Biltwell Bonanza that I wear in the spring and summer, and I have a Shoei full face I wear in the fall and winter. I have 3 bubble shields for my Bonanza and I really like them. My only complaint would be is that because the shield is fixed in place, it's hard to put on glasses or scratch your nose, etc. We've had this discussion before, and I agree with you about the freedom to choose whether to wear a helmet. I personally always wear a helmet even when I'm in states that don't require one. It's a safety issue for me; I trust my own riding skills, I just don't trust people driving cars. We've all had those experiences where a driver changes lanes without looking or doesn't see you and starts to make a turn so for me it's just common sense to have a little extra protection. Thanks for the videos...
Just want to say I ride a 2018 Harley Breakout I love riding without a helmet and did so for the first 2 and half years but I too looked into a full faced helmet. Because I had a lot of close calls on it. None were my fault. To many distracted drivers, to many people texting and driving or just not paying attention. To everyone out there ride safe. GOD BLESS EVERYONE.!
Sir, Thanks for making your videos real! you rock, I enjoy watching you. P.S. Here is a tip from a retired Cop, cover your vehicle tag when making your videos. There are a lot of weird/ sick folks.
Another great vid. You hit all the buttons on this one. Had just switched from a half helmet to a full face last March and went for a ride, hit some wet leaves and pine needles on a corner and rode the guard rail until I didn’t. Thankfully my full face saved my noggin! Grew up and rode with 3/4 and then half helmet, thankful my better half told me to switch out to full prior to my wreck.... wear or not, your choice thanks for the vid!
I live in Cincinnati. One year, back in the late 90's, I was riding to FL for, I don't know, Bike Week, or Biketoberfest, or the FL State HOG Rally. One of those. Anyway, I stopped somewhere for dinner. TN or GA, I don't recall where. I noted a few baggers in the parking lot and went inside. The hostess led me towards a booth and as she did so we walked past a booth with two couples who were clearly owners of two of those baggers. The guy who was facing my back as I passed mumbled "only pussies wear helmets". I decided I would ignore his stupid ass, but then two steps later I decided I wanted a fist fight instead. I stopped, turned around, and walked back. I looked him right in the eye and said "I heard that bullshit". He said "huh, what?". I continued on, "I have a wife, I have two daughters, I have a Mom, and a brother. I love them all and they love me. Some of them rely on me for a roof over their heads, food on the table, and clothes on their backs. I have a responsibility to survive every ride intact so that I can fulfill my responsibility to them and not leave them in need. Now how about you, do you have anyone that loves you whom you love? Parents, siblings, a wife, kids, friends?". He answered "yes, a wife, two kids, a Mom, two sisters". I asked "do any of them rely on you for the necessities of life?". Again he answered "yes". I looked him hard in the eye and asked "why don't you feel any responsibility to protect yourself during a ride so that you can go on providing for them? Do you not love them enough? Why don't you feel the same level of responsibility that I do?" He stared at me, unwilling to answer, and his wife leaned around, looked him in the face, and said "yeah!" as she elbowed him. You know what, she didn't exactly have helmet hair. With that I turned and went to my table. That guy studiously avoided making eye contact with me the remainder of my meal. If you don't love anyone, and there is no one that needs you, then being cavalier with your life really doesn't matter. But, if there are people you love, people who love you, people who need you, people that will miss you, and you won't wear a helmet that will fully protect your head and face in a crash then you've chosen to tell those people that they matter less to you than your need to look cool does. That is an automatic failure of the man test.
I've just recently subscribed and I'm really enjoying your vids. I'm a 1972 model myself, I heard you say you was a 70s model. I love this video about helmets. Im in Alabama, here its mandatory (thankfully) or I probably wouldn't of had 1 on. Long story, but I'll shorten it up, I was headed to work, she was running late getting her kid to a band meeting before school..... Speed limit 65 on a grass median divided highway. She loses control, slides through the median at over 85 mph and hits the car passing me head on..... I never seen it coming. I was conscious on the scene, but with a 1" skull fracture behind my left ear, I didn't know I existed until 2 weeks later... NO my Scorpion lid DID NOT fail me! I'm ugly naturally, but the scrapes all around that lid would've been my face... I survived 2 cars hitting head on at over 70 mph with each other and then sliding into me, all because of gear. Thank you for your channel, I'm really enjoying it.
Here in AZ I daily ride my Harley and I wear a full face ICON Airflite, gloves, jeans (never shorts) and either a leather vest or jacket depending on the season. While I love the freedom of riding I feel like I have too much to live for to not protect myself.
...Helmet saved my life in a crash back in 2017... I can't ride anymore because of other injuries that day, but I'm alive! FYI, as a disabled man that can no longer ride, watching your vids brings a lot of joy- please keep on going!
Bought my first modular flip up in 09 while taking delivery of then new FXSTC. Few weeks later a car passed me on freeway heard this ping off the front of helmet?? Stopped at our favorite old school biker establishment. The release button was jammed. Took awhile but we got it to open Hole about size of Double 00 buckshot had punched into chin bar jamming mechanism. No telling how far it would have penetrated into my neck. Another item you may consider is ability to flip open chin bar at stop lights, keeps you cooler. Ride Safe
that's totally your business. I never wore one ( too cool) until my doctor told me I had skin cancer, thank god I'm ok, now I won't ride without it, great channel, Felix from New Mexico
Ask any emergency room doctor or nurse......wear a helmet. Just because some law tells you you have to wear one doesn't make it wrong. You are someone's child, even if they are long gone .......
Yeah bud. Protect your brain and face. I’m in southern CA and full face helmets are on 99% of the HD riders. Simpsons are everywhere. I just got their Outlaw Bandit and damn it looks bad ass but she is noisy.
Its April 26, and I've just seen your videos for the first time and have enjoyed them immensely. Have been to Sturgis 8 times, try to avoid large crowds on road, too many newbies. A deer jumping across highway in 2020 and on to me and my bike has convinced me that a helmet is the only reason I am here today. So at 62 years of age, I am a convert.
Never wore a helmet since in ct we dont have a helmet law but I finally bit the bullet and bout a full face carbon fiber 6d helmet. Love it except on 95 degrees short cruises around town
Rode my first motorcycle, a BSA 650, for 10 years in the Chicagoland area starting in the 60’s without a Helmet. Moved to SE Florida and sold the 650. In 2014 we moved to Wisconsin. Cathy asked “When are you getting a Harley?” I got my Wi learners permit and bought a 2014 Sporty Superlow. Had to wear a helmet during that period. After passing the Wi road test, I got home, took off the helmet and rode around the block! Always wore one since… Now have a 2019 FXLR and a new helmet.
Heck ya man. I’m not the biggest fan either but it does make me feel better to know I stand a better chance of surviving . We’ve all seen a buddy go down and it’s never a good day, even if he is just scraped up. I run Arai , Biltwell and Icon and dont care what people think about the quality or the looks as it’s my head I’m worried about. Love this channel and your personality man. Keep up the good work !
Keep this in mind when buying a helmet... Most of all impacts on a helmet during a motorcycle crash is in the front cheek and mouth area! Wear a full face brother I live In Ohio where we don't have to wear them but I do anyway! Stay safe!
The Gringo is a full face (chin bar) just no flip down shield. I don't feel like the little flip down is gonna save me, but I did go for the full chin bar.
I wore a half helmet for years because I only have one eye and needed the openness for vision. I wanted to get into a full face for protection and finally ended up with a Bell Bullitt. Plenty of air, vision is like wearing a half helmet again with great protection. Be safe my friend
Here in the UK it’s the law to wear a helmet, seen so many bad crashes where the helmet has saved the rider, and been in a couple of incidents myself where I could have been a lot worse off if it weren’t for my helmet. Lost a few friends also in crashes even know they had their helmets on. I know it looks cool to not wear one but they save lives, which means you can carry on riding until your old and your family will still have you around. Great video by the way, love your content. Stay safe.
I've got an Arai it's expensive yes but it's also hand built. Thing is I hardly ever wear it 😳Why ? Because it's so bloody noisy and I hate ear plugs. I actually have become a big fan of AGV in my 47 years of riding. One of these helmets was put to the test back in 1979 and saved my face.
I lived in PA when I started riding and the state had a helmet law back then and damn glad they did. I had a crash and woke up under a Mustang with the right side of my helmet shattered and I've been wearing one ever since and always will, it saved my life or at least from serious head injury. My favorite is a 3/4 with a full face shield that flips up, clear for night riding and protects against rain, hail and cold or flipped up on hot days to get some air. Your family depends on you to stay healthy so your doing the right thing. I do believe in the right to make your own choice, don't really care for helmet laws for adults
i know ware your coming from personally i dont ware one much for the simple reason like you said there uncomfortable. but i did find one that wasn't bad a Shoei Neotec 2 Mobular has good air flow and comfortable not bad at all. the only down side it's at the top end of helmets $699
Finding a helmet that is comfortable is AMAZING!!! I also suffer from the Cheek squish and a semi-oval head. After speaking with helmet reps and parts sales people, I found the Shoei Neotech II. The beauty of Shoei is that you can get thinner cheek pads. for venting, it has a catfish, top and venturi (back) vent. I do not feel any of them. For you, I would recommend suggest trying a rounder helmet.
I have a hard time finding helmets the fit my head and the most comfortable one I’ve found is Aria. They have models that fit different shapes of people heads. Their Quantum line fits me best.
I really like it when you get up and just start showin these idjits where the bear dumped in the buckwheat . Keep up the good work man . I have been riding a long time and I am still learnin . You have a lot of great stuff on your channel . thanks again . Digger out .
Six days after this video came out I was rear ended. Hit my head on the windshield hard enough to knock me out and get a concussion among other less serious injuries while wearing a helmet. I'm sure I wouldn't be typing this if I hadn't had one on. Gets hot as Hades here in Texas too but I'm going to sweat my bald head off before not wearing one. I agree it should be everyone's choice but I've had my mind made up.
I love helmets. What I like about your post is you are making it clear it's your opinion, and that's fine . We can disagree, have different opinions , and still have a degree of respect
Been there done that....with my collection of helmets...trying to find the right one......but.....you should replace every 5-7 years.....why ? You know why I’m sure but I’ll say it anyway......Because the EPS deteriorates over time and after about 5-7 years is useless absorbing impact energy......I never wore a helmet until about 7 years ago...too many friends lost because they hit their head changed my mind about helmets.....I’m not judging anyone at all...just a change I made for my own situation...
Since you brought daughters up i will tell you my story. I rode bikes (all kinds) from the age of 5 to 27 yrs old, when we had our daughter. I made the choice not my wife to stop riding when i laid eyes on my daughter for the first time. When she hit 10 yrs old I brought the subject up about buying another Harley. That did not go over very well with my daughter. She actually told me "dad, after you get me through college and off on my own you can get a bike". Well, I almost made it. She is 22 yrs old and a senior in college and I bought a HD Ultra Limited 2 weeks ago on the condition that I wear a helmet. I wear the same pilot helmet that you have and agree that taken apart it is UGLY but all together is bad ass. Great video!
I enjoy your humor, I've been thinking about a helmet lately too. As far as haters remember an old saying " if they are picking on you then they are leaving someone else alone!"
I started wearing a full face with a flip up shield after getting my sunburned face and forehead blasted in a rain storn. Decided never again. Takes care of the sand a rocks too! Still getting used to it. Riding around the Dallas area, need all the help you can get. You do you, don’t worry about what anyone else thinks.
When I was younger I hated the thought of wearing a helmet. For various reasons. Then when my oldest daughter was born I started to look at it differently. And then when I went into neuro rehab work the lights came on. The difference between continuing to be able to ride after an unfortunate accident and drooling on yourself for the remainder of your unfeeling and paraplegic existence can be your head gear. Always do the smart thing. A bump on the unprotected noggin is life changing.
Helmets have always been required here in NC... I rode street '65 - '75 and then went to Enduro Racing and that is where I learned the importance of a helmet... I understand the 'World Revolves Around Your Daughter' as I am the same (she is all I have) and even thou she is 29 she is my whole world... Yes she is on me all the time about riding (even made me go to a '21 Tri Glide Ultra) as I am 70... The UPS Man didn't think twice about Miss Shirley unless you left the 'Hip Boots' laying beside her... I look forward to your vids as they remind me that I am not the only one that has some challenging situations/general mess ups... Have A Wonderful Day...
In California we’re allowed to split lanes the only good thing here by the way so my daughter and wife both asked that I wear a full helmet and I’m trying to be a good dad to
In 2009 I learned the hard way that cowboy hats make lousy helmets. The hat I was wearing survived, but left me with a trip to the ER to get my melon sewed back together. Since my TBI I have promised my youngest son that I will always wear a helmet. And I keep my promises.
I’m a bald headed guy and one thing I try to avoid is sweating my helmet up out here in the Midwest. Cycle gear sells the keep cool head caps that absorbs your sweat and as the air comes through cools your head. I think the brand is called Heat Out which I like out here riding in 100+ degree weather.
As a kid I started in retail, worked full time to pay for my own education, then drove a truck for a few years, then was a buyer for a jeans company, now I work with companies that are doing business across borders and having "troubles." Been doing it 10 years now. It's basically glorified customer service...
Dude! As a Daddy of a little girly I couldn't agree more. I'm in PA, no helmet law, and believe in everyone's right to ride however the hell they want. But as you know heartstrings are strong and I had to listen to my gut and commited this season to wearing a "real" helmet. I got a Arai Classic-V at x-mas time b/c it was on clearance. Its a full 3/4, works well glasses and has removable cheek pads, they even sell different size cheek pad to acomidate "plus size" cheeks. So far so good, haven't been out much cause well Dad stuff. Great vid, really enjoying the hell out of yours channel. God Bless brother!
I applaud you for talking about your evolution in thought with respect to helmets. I recommend considering a premium helmet from Arai or Shoei. You will find them light weight for the amount of protection they provide, much much better airflow and greater comfort. They just may not suit your too cool for school HD style. Look forward to seeing you at the Chip. I’ll be the guy in the Hi Viz Arai helmet.
I feel completely opposite for Helmets....I feel crazy uncomfortable when not wearing a helmet. As for the Carry issue. I wish we could carry here in Canada...hand a liberal a gun and they'll realize they have no idea what they are talking about!!
What's so uncomfortable about them? I never owned a helmet that was just so bad that i didn't want it. If thats the case, you maybe have the wrong size for your head. A lot of helmet manufacturers make helmets for headshapes too lol
Growing up riding motocross, snowmobiles, etc the transition to a helmet on my cruisers was a pretty easy one.. currently live in a helmet mandated state, but the occasional trip to New Hampshire and being able to take it off reminds me of why I wear one.... on a Dyna, so probably end up with more wind on me then the bagger guys, but it just beats ya up. Have a big ol football for a head myself, and other than the Arai Signet (used to be the Profile) I can't find a fullface that I can wear comfortably... spendy but worth it. Thanks for the vids man, helping me get thru a long Vermont winter.
I don't know if you know this but most helmets when you buy them have 3 different options for head shapes! Find out what shape your head is and go with that you won't regret it!
It's not the Helmet, it's the choice. We don't ride to save money, nor save the rain forest, or because we don't have a Prius. We ride because we have the choice. We have the FREEDOM to choose ! Don't forget what's really important here. We are the LAST of those who get to choose. Land of the FREE BECAUSE of the BRAVE. END OF STORY. Oh, and I changed my oil without gloves too. T.S. RACING
Good for you. When I went down, my helmet and gear saved me. I won't ride without the ATGATT stuff now. I even added a Helite airbag, maybe save some broken ribs next time.
The wife and I have the same storm trooper style helmets but after three years have now upgraded to the Arai Quantum-X for me and the Arai Signet-X for her and couldn't be happier. I also have a half helmet but rarely use it.
Let me just start with...im a grown ass man lol. When you talked about your daughter and the face she made....all I could think about is my daughter's looking at me that way...kind of choked me up. I'll be buying and wearing a good helmet from now on! I appreciate the videos.
I've always worn a helmet, mostly because we've had them around (the family has been involved in auto racing), and my buddies call me "Poser" because I do. I also believe that the rider should decide. Good luck wearing, and ride safe.
You're a "poser" because you wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle? Wtf lmao what kinda weird ass statement is that. I bet they all ride Harleys? I'm sorry but you dont look cool on a 30k bagger with ya dad shoes and jeans with a leather vest and no helmet lmfaoo i ride a Harley too, not hating on them btw just the lame ass sterotype of I'm a outlaw biker, im so tough bs.
After my accident last year I’ll never ride without a lid again mine saved my life. I do a lot of large group rides and having a lid keeps all the rocks and dust off my face. I would recommend a flip up modular helmet can flip the whole face up when stuck in traffic makes things nice
Lol snap on! Hey love your videos. This has been an issue for me. I have the modular like yours and hate it. Most rides I don’t wear it. I may have to try this one. Also per your advice on a previous video I tried the Cobra NH slip ons for my 2008 ultra classic and love them! It had stock pipes for the first 48k miles. What a difference! I rode for many years without a helmet but when I started taking long-distance road trips, I started wearing one. Since that time, I've started wearing one much more often. Now I have an intercom system installed in my helmet so I have to wear the helmet to use the intercom. But, if it keeps me living longer, it is worth it. Hey, TJ ! See you in August ! "Bulls Dad"
I just recently bought an xl ruroc 3.0 Atlas and it’s super comfortable. I also wear prescription eyewear and it doesn’t smash the glass against my face. It has plenty of vents as well.
really mature of you to do it for your kid, i know you old school riders hate helmets but i feel like its really important, nice to see you cared for your kid, really nice, have a good one man
I wear a Shoei Qwest, laws or no. My mother and Granny were nurses and I've seen and heard of too many tales of motorcycle wrecks and what the injuries were. Hands, Feet and Face/Head. After my high side where one of the first things to hit the ground was my face, I'm glad I run a full face helmet.
I just bought a Bilt modular helmet. Looks like a full fave but the whole front lifts up. Only type I could easily use with my glasses. It has vents and you can lift just the face shield in steps so it lets extra air in.
I've always ridden with a helmet and I am thankful for it. Just a few months ago I had a dove hit me right in the forehead. I've also had a bee stuck in the mesh on my helmet along with countless other examples. You never know what will happen on the road and it gives me a little extra peace of mind
For cooler weather I wear my LS2 VERSO .. open face with a large plastic shield that comes down has vents in the plastic shield so it never fogs.. it has a retractable tinted eye shield that can come down.. I can ride with both Shields up and glasses or with just the tinted eye shield down or with the plastic shield down in the eye shield up for when it's not sunny... When you buy these it is normal to feel pressure on your cheekbones.. THAT IS WHAT YOU WANT.. what you do is take a pillow cram it inside the helmet while holding the sides then strap the pillow inside and leave it for a week or two.. then the helmet will fit nice and snug and tight the way it's supposed to be.. for hot weather I wear a half helmet.. the kind that comes down a bit around the back and sides has venting in a little sun visor in the front which is removable if you want.. never could wear full face closed face helmet.. so hopefully with the half helmet in the verso I'm pretty well covered
Half, 3/4, full face, light weight, carbon fiber and novelty helmets sitting all around the house and I haven't found one that I'm comfortable with-yet. For a lot of the same reasons you expressed I'm not giving up looking for a helmet I'm comfortable with tossing on for short or long rides. I'll keep growing my collection until I get it right.
This video is what got my subscription. Helmets are a choice, and don't make you invincible. But the most important 6 inches of your body are between your ears you be actively protecting it. I also think that bit has been mentioned already that most accidents involving motorcycles involve some level of injury to the head more specifically the face/chin area. So if you are being SERIOUS about protecting the thinky thinky parts, a full face is a must. And if someone makes fun of you over wearing a helmet then they are not your friend. Friends want you to be safe and protected.
Helmets are a Hard Pill For most of us to Swallow, and a touchy subject, personally after major accident it took 2 1/2 years to relearn how to walk, I began wearing not just the Helmet but leathers 24/7, not because of my Skill Set but because Idiots like Drunk that Failed to Yield Right of Way will Kill you for nothing more then to answer their cell phone. In my experience Clubhouse Rules Vary but basics are Their Way, Their House and Their Women and Violate those Rules or Disrespect a member and You are taught respect is more important than You Thought. Was in an accident up at Laconia 2022, I wear a helmet for my little one too. So glad I had it on, I wear one all the time now. Great videos, keep kicking knowledge, much appreciated.
I bought the LS Valiant II - its converts from a full face to a 3/4 and has a built in sun visor. Allows me to have open air and when on a highway it just flips forward.
Been wearing a helmet since I started riding as a teen. I'm 74 and still going.. I have a big fat bald head ,and have had good luck with the comfort of HJC, and Scorpion helmets in the past. Riding a 2019 CVO Road Glide (Mako Shark), and have a 2021 CVO LImited coming in soon to ride into the sunset. Enjoy your videos.. Larry P.
I run a Scorpion Exo 510 - for the summer (well, Indiana summer) I take off the face shield and wrap a set of Bobster googles around to get better airflow. I also use a balaclava underneath for comfort. Works in winter AND summer surprisingly - the head-sock is synthetic fabric, so it wicks the sweat out. Personally I will at least STRONGLY RECOMMEND going ATGATT. BUT I will also strongly argue that it doesn't need to be a law.
I went from a half helmet to the Gringo and then I bought the Gringo S. I use the S more now when it’s cold or I get caught in the rain I flip the visor other wise I ride with it up. I recently won a Bell SRT modular but I am not able to ride for 3 more weeks so I have not been able to try it out.
I have never ridden without a helmet. Growing up that was my dad’s number one rule for riding. I had the opportunity to use one to save my life. I had a headache for about a hour. The Bell 500 in XL works for me. Great video.
a helpful hint. if you have a helmet that needs tweaking you can take a screwdriver handle an reshape the foam around your head. sometimes you can gain another size . take a little time pushing down on the foam to reshape it but certainly beets having to buy another helmet. follow and like the content.
I'm in similar stage of my riding and helmet thought process. I started out wearing one all the time. Then gradually less till not at all or only rain. I've started to wear mine again this season but want something better. Good video good info. Thanks
I have been contemplating getting a full helmet this winter. Ive never warn a “real” helmet living in MA, they are mandatory, but it the one helmet I’ve worn for over 20 years, I just turned 50, and no longer give a flying F what people think anymore, and have also lost close friends without a helmet and heard of the ones that had one and lived to tell about it. I’m searching for a comfortable one so thank you for the info brotha! I have a buddy in FL you remind me of, hot shit! I’d have a blast listening to stories over 2 or 13 beers. Keep up the good work on these vids.
What size is that helmet kid Equator? Your channel is the perfect mix of info, humor, and entertainment. Always a pleasure watching, enjoy the live chats as well. Noodles
The first thing the EMT said to me was, “You’d be dead right now if you hadn’t been wearing that helmet”. You’ll never catch me riding without one.
@@preacheradams5216 yep. At 71 I've worn Carolina steel toe engineer boots for decades. Hope you are well these days.
@@fps636 Good on you man, ride safe, and keep that shiny side up! 👊🏻
Damn. @Wafer S got me. I wear a full face and hi top vans half the time.
Thank you, sir!!!
Helmets are optional for licensed cycle riders here in PA but as I always say "just because you can, doesn't mean you should". Just wear one, oh and don't drink and ride.
I also live in pa. But I don't where a helmet but that's my choice and it's to where one
How ever been thinking a full face one for when it's freezing out in jan.- Feb. here in PA.

Ain't that the friggin' truth?
They like it when you tell them they are acting crazy
Ha, yup...when I was 30, need to look cool, no helmet. Now I’m 44, have two little girls, I want to live = helmet!
EXACTLY.
Good video.
But you survived those 10+ years, nice work!
I'd feel naked without a helmet on 😎
Don’t worry about the haters so much my friend. Your doing a great job and you are entitled to your opinion
Grassy ass.
You can get a snap on visor. Had that in the 70's
Use a full face Bell, ain't going back
I know the feeling.

Shoei's are great. Big money though! (I am sure there's a reason...)
@@ProfessionalMonkey picked up the Shoei Neotec II myself a year ago. I was apprehensive about the cost as well, but because of comfort, fit, and the modular functionality, I ended up wearing it more than other helmet I've ever had, worth every penny.
@@davebrake I’ll take a look.
There are several great modular helmets to choose from out there....
Ranging from $200-$800
You really do get what you pay for!!
Your choices are in fact yours! Whether ccw or helmet. Sir you just be your own man!
Right on
Love this channel!
Yes I was young and dumb at one time in my life. Now I am 68 and wiser I hope I also wear helments.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you, sir!
Thanks, bud. I am glad you're still with us!!!
Good on you for getting that helmet, remember that whenever you go out on a ride there's people that need you to come back.
Another item you may consider is ability to flip open chin bar at stop lights, keeps you cooler.

that's totally your business.
My helmet has a clear visor & an inner flip down tinted visor. It's great.
Its April 26, and I've just seen your videos for the first time and have enjoyed them immensely. Have been to Sturgis 8 times, try to avoid large crowds on road, too many newbies.

Can't remember the exact number but it somewhere around 35% of all head impacts are from the nose down to the chin.
I wore a half helmet for years because I only have one eye and needed the openness for vision. I wanted to get into a full face for protection and finally ended up with a Bell Bullitt. Plenty of air, vision is like wearing a half helmet again with great protection. Be safe my friend
I hate helmets as well but family first. Keep 'em coming, Silverback
Thank you, sir!
Stay safe.
Truer words were never spoken. Thanks!!!
Arai helmets are so comfortable sometimes I forget I'm wearing it, so now I have 2. Yes they're expensive...and worth it.
To each their own of course.
I am gonna check out a Shoei. I need one that doesnt look like it belongs on a Power Ranger though.
I have a hard time finding helmets the fit my head and the most comfortable one I’ve found is Aria. They have models that fit different shapes of people heads. Their Quantum line fits me best.
Do you have an oddly shaped head or something? 😉
Agreed.
The gringo s is great! I purchased it over the gringo that you have because of the permanent face shield. They're ECE 22.06 rated if anyone cares
I enjoy your humor, I've been thinking about a helmet lately too. As far as haters remember an old saying " if they are picking on you then they are leaving someone else alone!"
I have that exact same Daytona 3/4 , fits my head like a glove 💪🏻
I started wearing a full face with a flip up shield after getting my sunburned face and forehead blasted in a rain storn. Decided never again. Takes care of the sand a rocks too! Still getting used to it. Riding around the Dallas area, need all the help you can get. You do you, don’t worry about what anyone else thinks.
My wife has German heritage. When she gets mad, I just leave the room and keep my distance.
Dude, that hit home. Such a perfect way of putting it.
Helmet saved my life, after 55 years I finally got it. I would not be typing this
Helmets have always been required here in NC...
In California we’re allowed to split lanes the only good thing here by the way so my daughter and wife both asked that I wear a full helmet and I’m trying to be a good dad to
Right on, dude. They need us.
In 2009 I learned the hard way that cowboy hats make lousy helmets. The hat I was wearing survived, but left me with a trip to the ER to get my melon sewed back together. Since my TBI I have promised my youngest son that I will always wear a helmet. And I keep my promises.
@@ProfessionalMonkey
My daughter 27 Not seven like yours but still she got a watch out for your kids forever
What do you do for a living
As a kid I started in retail, worked full time to pay for my own education, then drove a truck for a few years, then was a buyer for a jeans company, now I work with companies that are doing business across borders and having "troubles." Been doing it 10 years now. It's basically glorified customer service...
@@ProfessionalMonkey no wonder your views on customer service is how it is. Keep up the good work, great content, keep it up.
Yep.. let those who ride decide.
Ill see ya!
Just get a DOT tat on the back of yer head.
There's always that.
The wife and I have the same storm trooper style helmets but after three years have now upgraded to the Arai Quantum-X for me and the Arai Signet-X for her and couldn't be happier. I also have a half helmet but rarely use it.
Wow, I've been thinking about getting a real helmet!
Never a bad idea.
Let me just start with...im a grown ass man lol. When you talked about your daughter and the face she made....all I could think about is my daughter's looking at me that way...kind of choked me up. I'll be buying and wearing a good helmet from now on! I appreciate the videos.
Right on!!! We have to live for our lil ones!
Be safe out there and keep the videos coming!
Sweet! Keep rolling!
"Bulls Dad"
I fully expect you to be standing on the overpass!!! HA!
Let me know when you find "the one."
True. "Thinky thinky parts" is my new favorite phrase.
Keep Up the Honest and Informative Videos and Have an Amazing Memorial Day Weekend
Was in an accident up at Laconia 2022, I wear a helmet for my little one too. So glad I had it on, I wear one all the time now. Great videos, keep kicking knowledge, much appreciated.
Just found your channel, dont know how. .but i like it . Comedy, Real, harley stuff and family man... keep’em coming .
Thanks! Will do!
Glad it kept you around!
a helpful hint. if you have a helmet that needs tweaking you can take a screwdriver handle an reshape the foam around your head. sometimes you can gain another size . take a little time pushing down on the foam to reshape it but certainly beets having to buy another helmet. follow and like the content.
I absolutely respect your right to live your life while not impacting others.
Bro , great video . Most people know better . Yet we do what we do . Helmet wearing is extremely important when on bikes. Thanks for sharing
What size is that helmet kid Equator? Your channel is the perfect mix of info, humor, and entertainment. Always a pleasure watching, enjoy the live chats as well. Noodles
Thanks for that!
