Hey man, this video is super cool! I've got a tip about the audio. When wearing headphones, your voice comes mostly through the left ear. Now, this doesn't really matter in the slightest, and the video is largely unaffected by this, but if you wanted a clearer playback you could try resolving this, I'm sure it's a fairly easy fix. I'm not certain what kind of microphone you used but it seems to be binaural, which is what's giving your voice this lean to the left. If you find the centre of the microphone, you can talk into that and the problem should go away, but there might be the option to switch the input to mono (single audio track) on the microphone. Additionally, most video editing software allows this adjustment too. Again, not super important so don't stress about it or anything. Thanks for da Mario
This, so very much. I might get back to this video on speakers, but right now while on headset something about the left ear thing makes this unwatchable for me! (Or unlistenable, I guess)
The combo isn't even that terrible. Rosalina isn't a super optimal character, but jet bike with standard tires and flower glider gives you a pretty solid overall balance of top speed (13), mini turbo (10) and acceleration (9) for a heavy kart. But Waluigi having all of those in better on his meta setup can be pretty demoralizing. Unfortunately in all possible kart combinations, Rosalina will always be a midfield character in those three stats, pretty good all-around but she doesn't excel in any particular discipline.
@@ToastyTastyPancakes I went into the system settings of my iMac and enabled “Play back stereo audio as mono” found in the accessibility settings (Audio) to fix this problem.
And to think, after using the worst possible combination long enough you begin destroying everyone again, imagine the times you could set going back to powerful setups again
Something weird about the game is that all characters are roughly balanced, with Strength / Flaws that compensate each other while having a vast array of stats, and you pick the one that fit your style better. Meanwhile, the kart parts are completely unbalanced while having fewer stats changes. The culprit? Mini-turbo. It over compensates the loss on top Speed, while keeping high Acceleration and Handling. Basically, you are just loosing Weight. But what is the purpose of Weight when you are half a lap in front of each other?
@@josephnoel2868 if you mean recovery as in recovery time after being hit by an item, all that would do in practice is make the acceleration stat effectively worthless.
also the worse your setup is at drifting the better it is at snaking which is also huge for speed although the slower setups tend to be better at drifting so that's counterintuitive as well
@@josephnoel2868 I don't think the mk8d tracks are that optimal for snaking anyway since you can just normally drift through most of them to begin with
I like how despite this game having a meta as to which character and kart combination is the best I still get an equal amount of wins and loses by just using the standard kart, wheels, and glider set with any character
I also just go full standard, it feels just fine when I'm driving. Well until I get hit by a blue shell, a red shell, a green shell and then also get shocked by last place
Jopes : *spent hours trying to find the worst kart possible but he still won* Me : *searches up a video about the best kart combination and using the worst one from the video*
I remember trying out the Metal Wheels + Badwagon combo one time online, and I realized how terrible it was REALLY quick lol. Wasn't surprised to see them on here. It truly is a BAD wagon.
1:13 the math was a bit off. The number you got in hours is actually in minutes. So you’d have to divide by 60 one more time to get how many hourse it would take. Just logically it wouldnt make sense that 13000 possibilities would take 16000 hours. Thats over an hour testing per kart
honestly the quality that this video is, and part of the math being so irrelevant to the main point of the video, it seriously doesnt matter how far of he was on that calculation. The point of him saying that was to show how crazy amount of time it would have taken and in my opinion any amount over 10-20 hours is already an example of great dedication to making a video. But i guess nice that your fact checking this for others, thank you
So you mean to tell me that there's someone out there that applied scientific rigor on their quest to figure out what kart sucks the most in MK8D? All I can say is that you got a sub. Kudos.
This channel gonna be huge with your style...once the new tracks start getting released you should review each course similar to your "best route in Yoshis valley" video.

Amazing analysis Jopes, and I'm sure you know this too, that acceleration also determines the hidden mini-turbo stat from drifting too, how fast it charges up for each tier, and how big the boost is from each tier as well. For most of the part. So acceleration is a big factor for going back to full speed and mini-turbos from drifting. This isn't the first Mario Kart game where high acceleration gives you an advantage, on Mario Kart DS, due to the high acceleration and handling of Dry Bomber from Dry Bones or Egg1 from Yoshi, their mini-turbos were overpowered which allowed anyone to drift or snake nonstop on straightaways which most other vehicles could not do. On Mario Kart 64, light weight characters with high acceleration like Toad, Yoshi, or Peach, were OP, while heavy weight characters like Wario or Donkey Kong were awful.
@@Jopes How it works is that the acceleration stat shown on screen incorporates both acceleration and mini-turbo, but the stats are individual. This is also the case for speed and handling incorporating the ground, air, underwater, and anti-gravity components. Source: World Record Progression for Blue Yourself (look it up)
I actually went back to DS to truely complete it, and I also realised that the Dry Bomber’s Acceleration is so good, the Kart can drift off-road. _The Kart Can Drift Off-road._
@@FrostGlader omg, I wish I could play my cart now so much, it got chipped on a really small, seemingly insignificant part and is completely unusable now :(
The most difficult setup I've used is maximum speed with minimum acceleration and handling. You go way too fast for tight corners, but maybe there's a learning curve
One thing that would probably be good to do is split the inside drifting bikes from the rest of the vehicles in their stat category, since those will take different lines that likely result in different times.
I've always gone maximum acceleration and minimum speed in this game and I'm typically miles ahead. I found speed not as useful in this game as it was in 7 or Wii
It’s much more broken on 200cc cuz max speed makes it hard for you to hit drifts on some of the tighter maps. I ran 200cc time trials on tick tock clock an physically could not drift in some of the turns with a speed favored build. Plus, if you consider you’re getting hit by items constantly, being able to hit max speed quickly is very useful.

I just found your videos on my recommended and I have to say that the "science" of Mario Kart is a topic that definitely wish to see more of on TH-cam. Your Yoshi Valley and Worst Kart Combo are awesome, well-thought out, and very educational. As someone who has performed their own tests on this game I was very happy to see this content on my feed. I would love to see more content as the upcoming Race Pass gets released and hopefully I get to see you do videos on older MK Games.
This channel feels so humble. The vids are so well made and has so much passion behind it, but there’s very clear room to grow into your content as a whole.
Love the quality! My main criticisms would be to balance the audio so your voice comes from both ears of a headset, and to maybe get a cheap pop filter to help prevent breathing into the microphone like from the 'P' in 'pro controllers' at 0:37
I'm literally stuck to the screen watching your videos! - The're informative - They do NOT get boring (since you speed up the testing parts) - And you explain things fairly simple Keep this up buddy, for real! You will be HUGE in no time. Regards Lukas
This would only be really accurate if you raced exactly the same way every time, as you're bound to do better as you practice the track/use combinations you're more familiar with. I guess the only way to do that is by programing the inputs to beat the level into something automated.
You could calculate the pareto efficiency of each build, which would give you a selection of the builds which over the worst trade offs. Then you just pick the kart you would have the most trouble racing with.
Okay, but if you played the exact same way, then some combinations might go off road, because of some being faster or slower than others, and the way bikes drift.
I appreciate the detail in the testing and explanation! My solution to the being better than all my friends issue was to start playing with one handed tilt controls
When you look back at the original Mario Kart 8, almost every vehicle part had some degree of viability. The only true exceptions were the Monster and Hot Monster tires, due to how expendable the traction stat was, AND the Metal and Gold Tires were superior for not only offering the same weight boost, but also a ground speed boost. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, however, was one big mess when it came to stat distribution, seeing as just about any vehicle part that did not boost acceleration was pretty much considered garbage. Even the Master Cycle became a complete joke, and that was a vehicle body that was pretty good in the original Wii U game.
This has been in my recommended for a couple days and I'm glad I finally decided to give it a watch! Your effort put into this video really seems to have paid off! I was intrigued the entire time and most definitely want to watch more of your content!
I've always used Dry Bones with the GLA, and now I've been told that both are in the lowest tiers 🤣 No wonder getting 3 stars on all cups in 200CC was such a pain
I usually use dry bones, but with the city tripper and some speedy wheels. I usually get top 3. Great handling and great for drifting to speed up more, and a glider that has decent speed.
I read an article awhile back that said Baby Rosalina in the Badwagon with the Slick tires and the Peach Parasol was the worst combination, it was found using hidden stats from the games files which were visible in an online kart constructing site that allowed up to 3 combinations to be compared at once. I am now curious to see if the results of this video are any worse in terms of driving.
1) If I remember correctly, everything in MK8D is much better balanced than what it was in the Wii U MK8. If you want to, I implore you to try to find that game’s worst kart combination. 2) I feel like performance in an online race is more influenced by the player skill, opponent skill, and item RNG than just a kart’s raw stats. 3) audio balancing is my passion
@@antt2228 The Standard ATV actually had some viability when it came to underwater segments. But it would be considered a bad move to pair that body with the babies, along with the Monster or Hot Monster tires; below average speed and acceleration is never a good mix. As for the Wild Wiggler, it had the same stats as the Pipe Frame and Standard Bike.
You're going places, my friend. This was so well researched and for such a humanitarian purpose of giving your friends a handicap XD. Hope you enjoy the Booster Course Pass DLC.
Love the video, I have one thing that might not be of influence as you tried every part 3x, but the coins might have had an influence on your results, they give a slight boost when collected and increase your max speed (up to 10 coins).
I have always had this issue but my solution for my friends was surprisingly simple: I simply am not allowed to press the item button still its cool to see this and plan to try it out with them! thanks for all the time it took to test all this
Coin collecting should of been taken into account with every test since it affects the speed of the racer depending on how many coins are collected. I believe that in each test a different amount of coins were collected each time making the results slightly off from one another. Great video tho!
Tip for anyone like me who has sensory issues regarding not having equal audio in both ears: If you are on an iPhone, you can go into your settings app, click on Accessibility, click on Audio/Visual, and then toggle the Mono Audio to be on! It’s a life saver for when you find videos like this that you really want to watch but don’t want to have a meltdown because of unbalanced audio lol. Happy watching!
Pisses me off that android doesn't have that feature for some reason. So many times my earphones have died in one ear, and I just want to hear all the sound, but the pan ruins music and video games because I can only hear one side.
First, really impressed with the content so far! its hard for new content creators to stand out and you seem to have a solid voice to your videos even though you are relatively new! Second, as you love Mario Kart, and are clearly not afraid of a deep dive i have an idea to run past you: Something that I haven't seen people touch on in these deep dives into the DLC Courses and Cups, is the escalating nature of the courses in the cup itself. Mario kart Cups have a flow to them, moving up in difficulty through the cup so that more straightforward levels are at the start and more complex levels are at the end. They actually tend to follow the Japanese story style of Kishōtenketsu which is told in 4 parts; Introduction, Development, Twist, Conclusion. Think about Mushroom Cup in Kart 8, you start at Mario Kart Stadium (Introduction, fairly generic, teaching you what to expect) move to Water Park (Development, Builds on the foundation of Stadium, modifies slightly) On to Sweet Sweet Canyon (TWIST, a major shift in the landscape of the course, unexpected maybe, but it still makes sense in the context) and end on Thwamp Ruins (Conclusion, with all you have learned you are now ready for the hardest track in this cup). And this seems to be the way each cup is relatively structured (some more so than others): Flower Cup; Mario Circut (Intro) Toad Harbor (Develop) Twisted Mansion (Twist) Shy Guy Falls (Conclusion/Mastery). Star Cup; Sunshine Airport (Intro) Dolphin Shoals (Develop) Electrodrome (Twist) Mount Wario (Conclusion/Mastery). Special Cup; Cloudtop Cruise (intro)Bone Dry Dunes (Develop) Bowser's Castle (Twist) Rainbow Road (Conclusion/Mastery). You get the idea... This means that if we are to break down the incoming tracks into 4 groups of 12 (all the intro style courses, what courses can be used to develop, what courses are a twist but still make sense with context, and Mastery levels) we would have a better idea of what is coming. so let's look at the Golden Shroom Cup: Paris Promenade (Intro) a pretty straightforward track, makes sense as an intro Toad Circuit (Development) pretty straightforward as well, arguably slightly more complex than Paris, has some interesting height changes due to a jump and a tunnel Choco Mountain (Twist) a classic twist, this level is fairly straight forward but it adds cliffs you can fall off if you aren't careful, and falling boulders Coconut Mall (Conclusion/Mastery) a level that has a tighter feel, multiple split courses where you can go up or down elevators, and choices to make along the way, feels pretty masterful in comparison to Paris and Toad's in particular. I would love to see you break down the classic courses and the tour courses with this in mind! Also the use of Kishōtenketsu in Nintendo games is well known, and I highly recommend watching Game Maker Tool Kit's "Super Mario 3D World's 4 Step Level Design" as a good break down on the concept!
This reminds me of one time years ago, I was playing Double Dash with some friends. One friend was maybe a little bit better than me at DD, so we kept trading first and second place. Our other two friends didn't really play that much, so they were having a rough time. We decided we'd play a 2 player cart (which neither of us had ever done before) to try and give them a chance. It didn't work. We still won.
My main has been the badwagon and standard glider for quite a while now, mostly due to aesthetics. This video probably won't change anything as I love the kart and am already second best in my friend group. Definitely interesting thought!
Excellent video! Though I recommend balancing your stereo audio or just setting your voice audio to mono if necessary. The one-sided audio is likely a mic setting issue.
As someone who tends to be on the better end when playing games with family, I can totally relate to wanting to find a way to make yourself weaker while keeping it fun. In the past when I played Duck Game I would ban myself from using guns and would primarily use the boxes to kill people (only when possible of course). I still won most of the time, but it made things far more even. Plus, there are the bragging rights you get from beating someone while under a major handicap.
Just wanted to say that you seem to have a good handle on the volume of the background music even without all the criticism from the video that’s popular now (as this was posted before a majority of those comments). I’m excited to see what you’ll post when the dlc comes out :) Subscribed

In terms of being substantially better than the people you play with, smuggling is a good option. It gives everybody a large advantage and doesn't let you use the op items. The only way to catch up is sheer skill, and from personal experience making it into first with two power items is extremely satisfying.

Unfortunately in all possible kart combinations, Rosalina will always be a midfield character in those three stats, pretty good all-around but she doesn't excel in any particular discipline.

Really "recovery" should be a separate stat from acceleration. Would correct this issue
@@josephnoel2868 if you mean recovery as in recovery time after being hit by an item, all that would do in practice is make the acceleration stat effectively worthless.
also the worse your setup is at drifting the better it is at snaking which is also huge for speed although the slower setups tend to be better at drifting so that's counterintuitive as well
@@Nick-ci8ve I can't stand the snaking style anyway. I wish they'd broken it years ago. Just not fun to play imo but I get stomped by ppl using it

1:13 the math was a bit off. The number you got in hours is actually in minutes. So you’d have to divide by 60 one more time to get how many hourse it would take. Just logically it wouldnt make sense that 13000 possibilities would take 16000 hours. Thats over an hour testing per kart
Did that real quick and got a little under 267 hours. Not quite as ridiculously long, but still pretty crazy.

On Mario Kart 64, light weight characters with high acceleration like Toad, Yoshi, or Peach, were OP, while heavy weight characters like Wario or Donkey Kong were awful.
i actually didn't know this, i was getting all my information from the Mario kart wiki, which has individual data for acceleration and mini-turbo.
@@Jopes How it works is that the acceleration stat shown on screen incorporates both acceleration and mini-turbo, but the stats are individual. This is also the case for speed and handling incorporating the ground, air, underwater, and anti-gravity components.

I actually went back to DS to truely complete it, and I also realised that the Dry Bomber’s Acceleration is so good, the Kart can drift off-road.

Find a better drive line, strategically give up tighter corner speed boost. It works, hard to nail on 150 tho
Imagine braking when you can drift
-Trackmania chads
One thing that would probably be good to do is split the inside drifting bikes from the rest of the vehicles in their stat category, since those will take different lines that likely result in different times.
I've always gone maximum acceleration and minimum speed in this game and I'm typically miles ahead. I found speed not as useful in this game as it was in 7 or Wii
Acceleration is SO op in this game
That's good to know, I always build karts for speed since most of my knowledge is from mk wii.
Especially on 200 cc.

It's such a good example of the scientific method

This is just a big flex turned into a video

I usually use dry bones, but with the city tripper and some speedy wheels. I usually get top 3. Great handling and great for drifting to speed up more, and a glider that has decent speed.
look on the bright side, you 3 starred all the cups in 200cc with the worst setup possible
now THAT is a legendary feat
I read an article awhile back that said Baby Rosalina in the Badwagon with the Slick tires and the Peach Parasol was the worst combination, it was found using hidden stats from the games files which were visible in an online kart constructing site that allowed up to 3 combinations to be compared at once. I am now curious to see if the results of this video are any worse in terms of driving.
I've watched two videos of yours now and this has finally convinced me to subscribe. You're flippin' amazing. Keep going!

Terrific job on the video! Keep up the great work. Finding the worst kart in Mario Kart is incredibly fun.

Coin collecting should of been taken into account with every test since it affects the speed of the racer depending on how many coins are collected. I believe that in each test a different amount of coins were collected each time making the results slightly off from one another. Great video tho!

First, really impressed with the content so far! its hard for new content creators to stand out and you seem to have a solid voice to your videos even though you are relatively new!
Second, as you love Mario Kart, and are clearly not afraid of a deep dive i have an idea to run past you:
Something that I haven't seen people touch on in these deep dives into the DLC Courses and Cups, is the escalating nature of the courses in the cup itself. And this seems to be the way each cup is relatively structured (some more so than others):
Flower Cup; Mario Circut (Intro) Toad Harbor (Develop) Twisted Mansion (Twist) Shy Guy Falls (Conclusion/Mastery).
Star Cup; Sunshine Airport (Intro) Dolphin Shoals (Develop) Electrodrome (Twist) Mount Wario (Conclusion/Mastery).
Special Cup; Cloudtop Cruise (intro)Bone Dry Dunes (Develop) Bowser's Castle (Twist) Rainbow Road (Conclusion/Mastery).
You get the idea...
This means that if we are to break down the incoming tracks into 4 groups of 12 (all the intro style courses, what courses can be used to develop, what courses are a twist but still make sense with context, and Mastery levels) we would have a better idea of what is coming. so let's look at the Golden Shroom Cup:
Paris Promenade (Intro) a pretty straightforward track, makes sense as an intro
Toad Circuit (Development) pretty straightforward as well, arguably slightly more complex than Paris, has some interesting height changes due to a jump and a tunnel
Choco Mountain (Twist) a classic twist, this level is fairly straight forward but it adds cliffs you can fall off if you aren't careful, and falling boulders
Coconut Mall (Conclusion/Mastery) a level that has a tighter feel, multiple split courses where you can go up or down elevators, and choices to make along the way, feels pretty masterful in comparison to Paris and Toad's in particular.
For the amount of work put into this, this deserves a lot more views and likes
