  • This video created in the 80's shows how the Royal Engineers utilised their unique skills to build and operate within trenches and wooded areas. A brilliant little throwback created by the British Defence Film Library. As you all know, we can't forget where we come from and what made us what we are today! #ArmyConfidence #Belonging #ThisIsBelonging

    When he said “there’s only one Chieftain in the position because there was one working…” I thought he was going to say ‘Chieftain’ next… :)
    Actually this must been filmed in a very narrow window in time: there are LAW80 and the Mk 6 helmet, but there are still Mk 7 mines and nary a set of nasty 1985 pattern combats in sight. By the time the Mk 6 and LAW80 were in general service, the Mk 7’s were all but withdrawn from BAOR and were mainly retained for use in Berlin.

      Even an intelligent enemy can't levitate over obstacles or mines... without helicopters and drones of course but there is a lot of armour that needs to get through the terrain so it simply must be the case that the war will maneuver like this and then bog down as materiel is lost. Attrition reveals the winner.
      Enemy leadership will demand a speedy advance. As Napoleon said, 'Ground I can win back, time never'. So that is the way it is... a lot of lives and tanks etc will be destroyed in the first thrust as they probe for weakness.

For the majority of the action in these woods is carried out by the 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards, an elite infantry regiment and with just a small element being the sappers (Engineers) laying some mines and digging some trenches. The title is mis-leading. Try vintage fighting in woods by the Grenadier Guards, supported by the Royal Engineers.

    WW2, Cold War 60's Malaya-Borneo dan Malvinas adalah beberapa episode terakhir dari kemampuan deployment masif dari British Army.
    Bahkan perang malvinas bisa saya katakan adalah Danger Gambling jika British kalah dari argentina dengan situasi ekonomi-politik mereka yang sedang tidak baik ketika itu, dan beruntung mereka berhasil menang dengan beberapa kerugian fatal seperti yang kita ketahu
    British Army sudah tidak lagi relevan untuk masif deployment seperti US Army hari ini. Keterbatasan Natural Resources dan kapasitas personel turut berkontribusi pada terbatasnya kapasitas British Royal Army jika terjadi pecah konflik secara besar.
    Yang artinya tanpa bantuan US Army maka British Royal Army tidak dapat berbuat banyak pada eskalasi global modern hari ini. Ini adalah kenyataan.

    • @WhistlingFerret
      @WhistlingFerret ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Two things, first, the British Army is not a "royal" army, due to complicated history that I won't get into here. Understable since we have a royal Air force and a royal navy, but no royal army.
      And second, the BA is enough to defend its home islands. It doesn't need to do massive foreign campaigns, that's what NATO is for. Most nations in the world can't do so, only the likes of China and the US, and as it seems, not even Russia can do so. And since Britain isn't getting back into the empire game, there is no need to do large scale invasions as a single nation. However, Britain does lead the way in terms of armour and electronic warfare, and cheap anti-tank warfare. With friends like NATO, who needs enemies....

    • @StarGate960
      @StarGate960 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WhistlingFerret Saya sependapat dengan statement anda, sebab yang diperlukan saat ini adalah kemampuan asimetrical warfare. Namun dalam hal ini saya melihat US army and US marines masih memiliki kemampuan large scale warfare, dikarenakan kapasitas budget dan cadangan minyak mereka yang sangat besar. Saya yakin China juga mampu melakukannya melihat potensi mereka yang begitu besar hari ini. Begitu juga dengan Russia, natural resources yang melimpah meskipun disatu sisi tidak seimbang dengan kapasitas budget perang mereka.
      Saya mempertimbangkan kemampuan large scale bukan hanya seberapa banyak yang dapat dioperasikan, namun juga kapasitas budget dan natural resources masing-masing negara.
      Kita tidak pernah tahu ancaman besar seperti apa kedepan. Nuklir dan asimetrical warfare memang ancaman terbesar, namun ancaman konvensional di darat dan laut tetap berpotensi bahaya sebagaimana yang terjadi di ukraina.
