Love is not only affirming but correcting. You don't love someone if you affirm blindly all behavior. Turn to Jesus.

Johnathan, your gut honesty has touched me. Thank you. I was ripped open not as public as you but as significant to my life. Growth happens as we face adversity. I find myself amazed at how strongly I’ve stood through these storms. Sexuality and faith are difficult to find solutions with.

Jen, such an important distinction you and RHE discussed about you changing your mind...that's the biggest beef amongst Evans...they *believe they have certainty dialed in, so the idea of critical-thinking and changing beliefs/minds/opinions are only ever seen as astray. They don't allow for room for growth and differing opinions. That's the toxicity.

The WORD OF GOD is clear ! There are no NUANCES. There is nothing to "grow" into. You either accept or reject what the Scripture clearly teaches. And if you do reject it, you should no longer be identifying as a Christian, unless you repent and embrace the truth of the word of God.
There is no room for debate here , people!
And may I ask what place the word "toxicity "has in this discussion? Are you referring to true believers who want to adhere to the truth and refusing to bend to the current , modern view of sexuality and sexual expression?

      Jeremy, sorry, you're wrong.
Jesus said "Go and sin no more, John 8:11
"Repent for the kingdom of God is at hand" Matthew 4:17
We're talking about two different Jesus. Mine is the Jesus of the Bible, your Jesus is one that you created in your own mind. One that is okay with sin. Which, by the way, is idolatry, which is another sin.

Thank you for providing a space for him to talk about this topic. What he said about wanting the people you love so much to accept you resonated with me. I know that aching feeling. I know what it feels like to believe your "God's one mistake" and try to do everything perfectly so he will finally find favor in and make you straight like everyone around you.
But now that I'm older, I see where the church is horribly misguided and has become a country or athletic booster club. For me, "God" is no longer a pronoun or this entity on a throne. "God" is energy/love personified. And I find myself praying to/consulting my ancestors that have passed.
I miss the community churches bring. I miss the structure it brought. But I won't step into a church. The closest thing was an Amy Grant concert in Houston. I saw LGBTQ couples sitting next to straight couples. There was dancing, singing, and joy. That's the table you'll find me at.

    • @glendagaskin151

The church is asleep. God is very specific about sin and where it leads. Just because our churches have accepted it doesn’t make God change. He never changes and His word never changes. The only way we can be saved is to believe. Nothing we can say or do will ever change that.

Evangelical Christianity screws people up. I wish people could just let it all go rather than trying in some form to stay in it.But I get that we do that because we are raised in it and it is very hard to stop believing things that we are raised in. We pretzel ourselves in order to continue to believe what is clearly simply a myth but we don't know that because we were raised in it and it is hard wired in us. messed up all around. I appreciate what Jen is trying to do though.

    • @junkerjorg1517
      @junkerjorg1517 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Evangel is just the gospel. Evgnelicalism is a brand with a million flavors.
The gospel saves and redeems and "screws" no one up.
Christ saves from sin. From sin fo theft and drunken ness and homosexuality.
This is not an evangelical thing but a biblical thing.
People don't grow up in it anymore than any other group. And there are many that grow up in other places and find Christ through the evangel, the gospel which is in the word.
The difference with hatmaker and Merritt is that they think they can sit above God's word and judge it and pick out what they like and hate and ridicule those who adhere to the context of the bible and who Jesus calls his followers to be.
Both hatmaker and Merritt need to repent for their heresy

The word faith and a curse word in the opening sentence. Heartbreaking...
"There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death." ~ Proverbs 14:12
... look for Paul Washer, Alistair Begg, Voddie Baucham, Ray Comfort, Off the Kirb Ministries, Richard Ellis, John Macarthur, Steve Lawson, RC Sproul, Elisabeth Elliot, Justin Peters ...just a few in a very long list of strong, true pastors/leaders/missionaries of the FULL word of God and it's authority.
The most loving thing you can do for a person is to tell them the truth about what God says in any situation. If you can read, you can verbalize the scripture and know intellectually what it's saying. There is no gray area, for we are not to interpret the word to fit this world, the "culture" or our wishes and desires, including indulging our flesh in what God has clearly called sin. The eyes of our understanding have to first be opened, and that's a work of God.
Prayer is another way we can all help.
But most importantly -- Nothing is accomplished by telling someone they are wrong, lost or living in sin if you don't also provide the Gospel (good news!) that most people think they understand - until they, like myself, get old enough to realize something is missing - which is also the work of God. On my own, even as a Christian, I am a wretched sinner at heart, without hope in the world ... apart from Jesus. : ) As a Christian, I am a wretched sinner, saved by grace, through faith alone -
"“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9)."
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son [Jesus Christ], that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” - John 3:16
“He that believes on the Son has everlasting life: and he that believes not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God stays on him.” - John 3:36
This world we live in is a fallen world, because sin entered - but, because he loved us so, he not only had a plan, but HAS a plan which includes anyone who calls on him, believes he/she is a sinner in need of a savior, and places their trust in Jesus and his sacrificial work on the cross, confesses their sin and turns from it - knowing that our best efforts still fall short and trusts in Jesus' strength/power etc... instead of relying on our own 'goodness' to get us to heaven ---
    ~As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one; There is none who understands;
There is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one.” ~ Romans 3: 10-12
God created us, we sinned - God's wonderful plan already had a solution for that! He himself provided the substitute for the punishment our sin deserves, for the Bible says the wages of sin is death. He sent his son to die once, in the place for all, (me and ANYONE reading this who seeks God and to be right with him) so that by his death, OUR debt is paid, we are no longer under the sentence of death our sin has earned us, we are free from the wages of sin!
~ “And it shall come to pass, that whoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” - Acts 2:21
As Ray Comfort says (not word for word, but I pray close enough to understand!), it's like we are in a courtroom and the judge has a huge stack of fines sitting in front of him - we are looking at some serious charges, and probable jail time .... however, just before we came into the room, someone came in and paid our fines for us ... the judge sees that we have done wrong, sees what the punishment would be, but since someone came and paid the penalty for our violations, in the eyes of the judge, the debt has been paid, so we are free to go!
THAT'S what Christ's death on the cross did!
"But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed." ~ Isaiah 53:5
It's the most loving thing a person's ears could hear in this world, if you understand just why it is called the Gospel, the 'good news'! But, this culture, this world is the devil's kingdom - the fallen world and whoever satan can get to believe his lies - is not the Heavenly Kingdom the Bible speaks of, the health and wealth (aka) prosperity gospel is not the Gospel of the Bible, for God tells us --
"...In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”... ~ John 16:32-33
We place our trust in Jesus, who is FOR us ... not AGAINST us, as the world/culture - the devil's kingdom - would have you believe.
We as Christians reach out in love, a love that was first shown TO us - no matter what anyone tells you, Christians are not sin free. To borrow a quote from missionary Paul Washer, "You will sin less, but feel worse."
That's because once you realize the unimaginable love that God created us with, and the sacrifice he made by sending his only son to die on the cross for OUR sins, you want to sin less, you want to do good, you want to please God because our flesh is always trying to tell us that there has to be something we can do! (There isn't! :) )
There again, is why it's called the "good news" - the Gospel!
God has already done it all!
If you believe in him and your desperate need for a savior, that he sent his only son to die for your sins, raised him from the dead thus defeating death, ascended to heaven and now sits at the right hand of God interceding (praying and in a sense, vouching for you to God against the devil's lies and accusations), confess/repent of your sins and turn from them - meaning, you do what you have to do to honor the free gift you've been given to the best of your ability, knowing you'll never be perfect this side of heaven ...and place your trust in Jesus alone, you shall inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.
I recently read a daily devotional that speaks the Gospel straight to the heart, and I've pasted it below -- I pray that God will open the eyes of your understanding and use you and the audience you speak to to enlarge His Kingdom and spread His Gospel - the only True Gospel

Converted and still gay? that doesn't make any sense. God is love and he wants his children to live a full life. Not knowing the love of a good Christian woman and the tender love of your own children is devoiding yourself from the greatest gifts of God. If you have decided to be celibate for the sake of the Lord it would be alright but this is something different. Deliverance is what you need and not trying to show people that it is alright and godly to live a castrated life. You have been deceived and accommodated the Gospel to your lifestyle and that's not what you do. God is love and almighty. Jeremiah 29:13 “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” The day you accept your condition you stop seeking God. How could you let yourself be deceived that way?

@@joshmcu It's impossible to know for certain what the authentic words of Jesus were. He was a person who lived 2000 years ago and no-one can travel back to those times. However whatever the Church made him out to be, I believe that Jesus was a real person who lived in Palestine and walked its alleyways with a message of peace, love, compassion and acceptance towards all. That's why his movement got going even after he was executed. I don't believe that Jesus condemned or judged anyone. All what he did was encourage people to love and care for others.

Sound so great doesn't it so peachy and wonderful. And if we were to ignore 1st Corinthians 6 or embrace it as merit and hatmaker do, what do they do with the other sins of this passage?
Is hatmaker and merit ready to embrace thieves and drunkards?
      Are they cool with adultery?
What about swindlers, cheats people who steal stuff or liars?
I mean honestly by this logic we should just accept everybody and wrap our arms around everybody and let everybody be fully human and be who they are and there's nothing wrong with them as hatmaker says. That is if homosexuality is not really that big of a deal and actually a gift from God.
His drunkenness and swindling a gift from God?
