It's so interesting you mentioned not really remembering the plot of Priory, because I couldn't for the life of me remember what that book was about. I only remember being sucked into that world and being one of the best books I had read in a long time. So flashforward years ahead, it's strange that I barely remember the characters or the world. So I guess I'm looking forward doing that a 2nd time lol.
I just finished this book - it's so good! I think I actually prefer A Day of Fallen Night to Priory, but I loved them both. And Yes, I would agree that you could read either of them first.
It might be my second favourite book of all time (after Priory). Need to let it marinate a bit, but wow, Samantha Shannon knows how to hit me in the soul!
I was so excited for this book to come out, and it didn't disappoint. I absolutely loved it, and I read it in one go I was so determined to immerse myself in the world of Priory again. I've gone back to it since and will likely be doing many more rereads. Her writing is top-tier and I really appreciate the focus Shannon's writing has on women. Roots of Chaos is a must-read fantasy series for me :)
Good explanation! After reading Priory I couldn’t remember the plot either. Day of Fallen Night was a fun read; it had an epic scope but I once again didn’t feel the weight of an epic. Don’t be afraid of the length, I never felt bored. Only problem was remembering what’s going on in each sub-thread which took me a few hundred pages to acclimate. Subscribed!
Thanks so much for your opinion! Just got it from my library and it’s so daunting, I have Priory personally has my own copy but haven’t read it yet because of how big it is but might start with Fallen Night first and then read priory later on thanks this helped heaps!!
I loved Priory. I also loved the Bone series books. I am currently reading Fallen Night - 100 pages to remaining. I have struggled reading it, though. I took a month break about the middle of the book. Like you, I barely can remember Priory - and I may re-read it.
Just finished it. Took me 6 months as I'm a slow bedtime reader who falls asleep very quickly. Loved it! Excellent, believable inclusivity and an interesting world to be immersed in. Very enjoyable.
I've just came across this video after uploading my A Day of Fallen Night VLOG LMAO but I agree with many of your points in this video, thanks for giving such a thorough explanation, it made me want to actually reread the book haha For me it took quite longer to get into the story, because I had no idea what Priory was all about, but I still enjoyed it quite a lot
I love how you say you have to read things in publication order BUT I distinctly remember a time where you just did whatever you wanted with Joe Abercrombie's books 😂
I’m the type of person that doesn’t care much for publication order more than what should be read before what so there no spoilers from the previous book I’ve read?
I bought both books because of the beautiful covers. I was sufficiently entertained. There are a lot more gay characters than I would expect statistically but I did not really mind. While reading I always thought that it speaks volumes about our own society how the most strange thing in these books were not the magic or the dragons but the general lack of misogyny and violence against the female population. A world of gender equality, and it feels so alien to me… kinda sad.

I plan to get tot this one this weekend finally. Thank you for not spoiling. I’m definitely even more psyched to read it now
Your voice is so perfect for audiobooks and I have read the priory last year and I am now reading a day of fallen night

I totally agree!

I love your jumper 😁
..and thanks for the review. You tipped me over edge into buying.

I see day of fallen night is considered book 0 and prior is book 1 so does that mean the day in a fallen night should be read before priory?

There’s no spoilers for the other book.
I literally just bought this! Perfect timing!
Hope you enjoy it!
I just read Priory and now I’m starting Day of fallen night! I am confused so far but I really enjoyed priory 😊 I love your hair!
thankyou!

I only read Sabran chapters in priory but I’m reading adofn from start to end. It’s perfectly readable for me
Do you really mean you only read one character's chapters? How come?
Subscribed❤. I love the series as well.
