Look at Rory's voting record over the last decade. It's not their ability to recognise structural problems, it's their choice of solution. Not surprised at what that snake Alister Campbell has to say but, very surprised that Harriette Harmon would say that a man should put “a party” before integrity and morals…! He was kicked out on a false charge and represents rightly or wrongly what the Labour Party originally represented. Shame on you Harman. Congratulations Jeremy.

One of the most significant results of the general election was former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn’s victory as an independent candidate.
After the effort Starmer went to to rid Labour of the ‘left’ in Labour to supposedly clean up and change the Labour Party, Corbyn’s victory defines everything that’s wrong about ‘changed’ Labour’s new government even on its outset.
I sincerely hope Corbyn’s continued presence on the opposition benches, albeit as an ‘independent’ MP will cause as much havoc as possible for Starmer’s right wing Labour agenda for growth which will never work anyway.

  • @nickvinehill7491

Put aside for a moment Harmans appalling authoritarian critique of JC's fabulous win. Believe it or not Harman thinks her and JC are ideologically aligned and that the only distinction between them is their chosen methods of "deliverability" - She believes in dancing with the devil rather than fighting it tooth n nail. I can't say who is right or wrong but i do know this.
JC stood as an independent and won. This alone got Harman mad because SHE KNOWS!!! the people of N Islington need a Labour MP to represent them. She believes this so strongly that she'd conspire in preventing a free and fair election where the people choose from whomever wants to run. That is anti-democratic and there comes a time when you have to look yourself in the mirror and ask if you have become the baddie.

This is absolutely disgusting. The display of contempt and disrespect on show from Channel 4 and their guests is utterly shameful. You showed us just how much you hate Corbyn and you hated his time as leader, and how much you really worked to destroy him. Maitlis is a disgrace, that is disgusting behaviour in any context. Harman, absolutely breath-taking arrogance and contempt. Labour kicked him out and parachuted a stooge in. Harman showed utter contempt for the people of Islington and their rights to choose just as Labour have shown utter contempt for their members, and voters. Corbyn got 3 MILLION more people to vote for him than Starmer did. If anything this clip shows how underserving Labour is of its power, and these journalists of their position.

I'm not with you here. Krishnan is the host here, and his questioning was perfectly respectable. The other people are guests on election night coverage, and are there to speak for themselves and their parties - so Harriet is allowed to put questions pushing a partisan viewpoint since she's not there as a journalist. I thought what she said was horrible, and mean-spirited in the immediate aftermath of Jeremy Corbyn's win, but it's within the bounds of political debate on these kind of shows.

As a 30 year old who has lived their entire adult life under the tories who lives in bristol north west, thank you too all the voters in islington north, voters of other independent votes, the green voters, and those who tacticallv voted labour or lib dems, thank you, for the first time in my adult life i have hope, and while we have to be aware of the far right at least we have an opportunity to potentially put forward more progressive change in this country.
It wont be easy the political system is rigged against implementing progressive policies that will actually improve people's way of life, us centrists and of the left need to unite and say its okay to push harder for better, cleaner, more reliable and cheaper utilities, fixing our healthcare and social care system. If we have to do that the people with the "broader shoulders" (millionares and billionaires) should pay taxed on assets

Harman showing a distinct lack of class here IMO. I watched Ch4 all night and thought she was generally OK but if Starmer and his goons hadn’t been such SNAKES JC would have won his seat with a Labour badge and not an independent one. Campbell who I assume is probably no fan of JC either at least treated him with the respect his win deserves.JC is 100% bang on the money on the Far Right, sees and understands the threat better than any of them and is best placed to communicate that danger.
Maitliss too, someone I do really like and rate couldn’t have shown more disdain if she tried, very, very disappointing.

Harman's done some genuinely incredible things, especially in leading the way to increase diversity in British politics (alongside Diane Abbott, of course). But she's also very capable of being profoundly stupid, as was on full display here.
I've always liked Rory Stewart, even when he was serving under Theresa May and the election night coverage only increased that. Alistair Campbell even managed to claw back a shred of respect from me as the night went on, especially here.

Yeah, it's pretty rich of Harman to call Corbyn out on "collective endeavour" when it was all the centrists who wouldn't get behind him when he was leader. And after the party kicked him out you can't really call him selfish to stand as an independent in the constituency where he's been the MP since the 1980s, and is clearly personally loved and respected by those voters. It's the current Labour leadership that is responsible for how that situation turned out.
