Fallout 76 is a cautionary tale for an industry that exercises no caution whatsoever. A wake-up call for an industry that remains asleep at the wheel.
Bethesda's broken, unfinished, poorly received foray into the "live service" arena has been a neverending carnival of humiliating nonsense. A fine example of what happens when you play to none of your strengths for the sake of ill-gotten gains.
With a big iron on our hips, let's take a look at the embarrassing, baffling, and often funny mess that is Fallout 76!

Think the people in charge really do have $ symbols in their eyes and can't just try stuff if it isn't making all the money in the world anymore, sad really, on the + side there will definitely be another Fallout and another Elder scrolls because they know that is popular, eventually.

NPCs and engaging storylines yes, but to be fair consequences for actions depends on the subgenre. WRPGs, yeah, thats part of the core experience in all the ones I'm aware of, JRPGs though usually go for a linear narrative that is meant to be engaging for the story it tells on its own rather than player input.
That said, Bethesda is a company that makes WRPGs and Fallout is a WRPG series, so its certainly the bare minimum for the type of game Fallout is meant to be.

22:50 What really irritates me, is they DO have a touchpoint with the Skyrim and Fallout community, even though they've implimented it TERRIBLY, the Creation Club COULD have been amazing, where they didn't TOUCH free modding, and nothing would change about modding, it could still all be free, but Bethesda themselves could or hire people that could create AMAZING DLC Sized Mods SPECIFICALLY to sell ON the Creation Club. Having a DLC JUST like the Dragonborn and Dawnguard, or even somewhat smaller sized but coming out more regularly, I mean they don't even have to come out regularly and people would buy them if they were QUALITY and didn't take AWAY from the already allowed features.

Fallout 76 was doomed to fail for a single, simple reason:

I was one of those dudes that got FO76. Day one even. Matter of fact, I was one of those dumbfucks that bought the higher priced edition from the Bethesda store. The game had a lot wrong. Regarding the lack of NPCs it's quite jarring. FO1, 2, 3, New Vegas, and 4. They all got NPCs. They were all part of the charm that help make the setting, even in FO1. FO76 was strange because we got mountain loads of Raiders all over the place and not a single holdout of friendlier NPCs. Everything is hostile, there is no Good & Bad because everyone out there is Bad, i.e. "Red is Dead" and you need to kill it.
Map design for FO76 I felt was nice, but the world was dead. Even if you get a cluster of players to work together and build a community, you can't. Not the way the servers, the game works. *It's not persistent.*
There's lots of other things wrong, but this stuff is just the tip of the iceberg. The only relief was getting a refund, but I had to do it via the financial institution because Betheseda was refusing it because "I downloaded the game" from their fucking store.

Let me ask you the question I've asked hundreds of times since November; do you think they have Todd Howard locked in a closet somewhere with a sewing machine?
Bethesda makes games. That's it. And contrary to what people think their involvement with either the bag or whatever else begins and ends with signing a check to a third party. And speaking from experience those third parties WILL fuck you over and there is NOTHING you can do about it. You can't "quality control" somebody else's business, and you can't spend all your time in a warehouse individually checking the contents of every box before they ship. Sooner or later you're just going to have to trust that the "professionals" you paid to produce your ancillary product aren't going to fuck you over. And the culture of big corporations fucking over their customers for short term profit or out of apathy doesn't go away just because said customer happens to be another corporation.
They can be and should only be blamed for the content on the disc. That is all they are actively involved in. The CONTENT on the disc. Not the bag, not the rum, not the case, not the booklet, not even the disc itself; just the ones and zeros. Period. If there is a problem with literally anything else then guess what; Bethesda got screwed over with that well before you did, and probably didn't even know about it until the complaints hit twitter. Bethesda didn't screw you over; that was just a side effect of some third party screwing THEM over.

@@arkhamcreed4326 ehmmm... billy, you're wrong. if, for example FOX gives aproval to a 3rd party toy manufacturer to make the simpsons merch... AND the product is a shitty lead painted homer...FOX, indeed is responsible (or IRRESPONSIBLE in this case) for allowing a crappy company to take care of their licensed product... and damaging their brand.
Disney is extremely careful with who they're giving licenses for their products.
Nintento (after lot's of awful 80's shows damaging their reputation) became extremely careful of who they allow to use licenses of their products.
YES, it is also bethesdas' responsability to make sure their lisenced products are UP to their brand standars EVEN if they didn't made em'... because that may damage their reputation (despite the crappy bottle fiasco, well, being up to their standards😓)
      >You can't "quality control" somebody else's business, and you can't spend all your time in a warehouse individually checking the contents of every box before they shipstop
stop being pathetic and a corp-apologist, because the aforementioned disney & nintendo INDEED send corresponsals to check how their 3rd party lincensed product are being made. or at least ask for the product (or prototipes, as a way of testing that the 3rd party is capable of) weeks before it ships to the average joe en-mass. yes, responsible corporations DO THAT.

@@arkhamcreed4326 If Bethesda indeed was "screwed over by a 3rd-party", why would they respond with something like "we're aware, and we're not going to do anything"? Surely, if Bethesda contracted the manufacturer for canvas bags and received nylon bags, they'd have grounds to sue for breach of contract?

@@theALTF4 The original creator always gets a say in products and marketing. George R. R. Martin has talked about how every time someone made a board game or toy line etc from A Song of Ice and Fire he got to see the products, use them and had the final say on whether the products got shipped to consumers. Bethesda certainly did that too.

If they were smart "business people" they would have at least put something at the bottom saying product subject to change or not representative of final product or something like that. The idea that people don't control the products related to its properties is ridiculous.
