I am a huge Barenaked Ladies fan (since 1991, when they were independent). I have seen them live 4 times and get inducted into the Juno hall of fame in 2018. One Week is the only No. 1in their career. and they are from scarbrough ontario canada. great reaction my friend. mike mason The lead is Ed robertson on this one. (hes my favorite member.
They are driving The General Lee, the orange car. The red one with the white stripe is also from a tv show from back in the day called Starsky and Hutch.
People that are younger, never gonna understand that. Over time, over the decades, there’s just too much cultural information lost. All songs and this song especially is like a time capsule and I would say 80% of the song went right over her head.
Genre is pop rock, although because the band is loaded with multi-talented multi-instrumentalists, they have certainly dabbled in other genres. This song is from their most popular album internationally, which bolted them to the forefront of US pop music for a few years there in the 90's, but they have a much deeper catalogue than that - both before and after. The band is from Toronto, by the way, and it is beloved in Canada, especially by Gen-Xers (like me). I'd suggest trying out these three songs from their first album: Brian Wilson Old Apartment If I had a Million Dollars Plus their very first hit (in Canada), which appeared on a tribute record for an older artists. The song they chose was a cover of "Lovers in a Dangerous Time." You can various videos for each song.
OMG this song is classic!!!! My kids, your age-ish know most is the lyrics! LOVE IT! Chickadee China, the Chinese chicken, you have a drumstick and your mind keeps ticking......
They are geek rock (rock with scifi and pop culture references)/joke rock. You will notice this song references sailor moon, Sting (from the police), The X-files, and other popular thigns from the 90s. The one guy is also really good at fast singing to the point where its pretty much rap. He would do these sorts of freestyle making up lyrics in his live performances and people said you should make a song based on that and that's where one-week came from, so it is certainly different than most of their other songs.
Jen watch the movie “Love and Mercy” about Brian Wilson from The Beach Boys, then listen to the song “Brian Wilson” by Barenaked Ladies (BNL) and you’ll understand every lyric. It’s also a cool song and a chart topper in the 90s.
I’m subscribed🙂 Just want to encourage you to stay at this. You WILL make it! I spend a lot of my time online with reaction videos and I’m not just saying that! As for what genre TBNL are? If you figure it out let me know🙂🌹
It's kind of a shame they are best known for this and the Big Bang theme. They have some incredible songs, and most of them aren't fast. Call and Answer, War on Drugs, Break Your Heart, and What a Good Boy are some of my favourites.
