  • A fantastic morning spent at Bristol Parkway on the South Wales Mainline where we see plenty of services from Great Western Railway and Cross Country.
    The station itself isn't all that old, having only been constructed in 1972, the line running through Bristol however had actually been in place since 1903. The station hasn't really changed a huge amount in the grand scheme of things. The original station was built by a firm in Bristol and consisted of two island platforms connected by a metal framework bridge and a simple wood and bridge building housing the ticket office. The canopies for the station were introduced in 1973 as well as a cover for the footbridge to make things more bearable for the passengers waiting at the station. Journey times into London were slashed when the HST was introduced.
    The services have never really changed all that much from when British Rail was privatised, GreatWestern Railway or First Great Western as it was known as has always had the Great Western franchise, the only changes being VirginTrains Cross Country and Wessex Trains.
    The Network Rail Maintainence Training Centre at the station was only brought into existence thanks to Royal Mail ceasing operations on that area of the line, they had built a large depot there to serve their trains and lorries for that area of the country, but this was subsequently closed in 2004 having only been open for 4 years. Royal Mail had suggested that freight companies could use the sight but no one took them up on the offer, the depot being demolished in 2007. The current station building has been in its present form since the year 2000 but with several bits of work taking place inside to modernise the structure as well as the multi story car park. The car park was constructed on the space left over by the now gone Royal Mail sight.
    The platforms have all undergone work at some stage during their lifetime to accomdate longer trains and to help with congestion during the much busier periods, a bay platform was constructed so as not to hold up the faster intercity services and Cross Country trains.
    My next station is going to be Bristol Temple Meads.
    You can now find me on Facebook through the group Tornado922, there you will find regular updates, videos and photos from all of my goings on throughout 2018

    Quite a bit of real estate this site has, it real is huge from what I see. Some of the best close-ups and accel/decel footage GWR 800's very nice. Great looking day, nice looking passengers and an awesome film a real relaxer. Thanks for your hard work! B.P.

      The site itself is huge, the car park is by far and away the biggest structure here, it almost hides the station behind it. The GWR 800's have certainly got some get up and go to them :)

      Makes me wonder why the Freight hasn't used the property more, why they refused the Mail Co.? All things aside it's pretty quiet there. Yeah 800's ooooohh.. Thanks again! B.P.

    13:23 I think this is due to the fact that they are diesel electric hybrids. They run in electric motors while the diesel part is the generator, generating electricity for the motors. Well obviously they can run off electrical power via pantographs and overhead wires.

      The date of the film is on the title :) It was the 4th of August

  • @PVKtrains
    @PVKtrains 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    was this filmed on Saturday 4th august because it was not a Sunday

  • @SionsTrainVideos
    @SionsTrainVideos 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    great video mate. that HST set was not back to front cause first class should always be in the london end

    • @Tornado922
      @Tornado922  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That HST set was running in reverse formation that day, I double checked with the train dispatchers once I had finished filming here

    • @SionsTrainVideos
      @SionsTrainVideos 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      but how. first class is always should be on the london end

    • @Tornado922
      @Tornado922  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because it depends on what part of the network they were originally on and what depot they would've come from, the HST sets get changed on a daily basis and the way this particular set was put together meant that it was running in reverse formation that day. Whether or not it got changed that night I wouldn't know

    • @SionsTrainVideos
      @SionsTrainVideos 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tornado922 well i saw it at Llanelli and first class was at the back of the train so when it leaves Swansea it will be on the london end and thats good cause first class should always be at the london end

    • @Tornado922
      @Tornado922  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Again it all depends on where it is on the network and what work was done to the train in the depot overnight

  • @jgrailvids
    @jgrailvids 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    When your filming a fast train turn the camera at the middle of the train Slowly it looks much nicer

    • @Tornado922
      @Tornado922  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It all depends on how fast the train is going. If it's going at near full speed through a station then the panning shot is going to be the same speed. However in cases like this then I will go as fast or slow as I deemed to be necessary to get the majority of the train in the shot.

  • @agoogleuser8170
    @agoogleuser8170 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    What is CrossCountry’s speed limit? Isn’t is 100mph?

    • @Tornado922
      @Tornado922  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is, because of the routes that they have to take it involves several crossing which limits their speed

    • @agoogleuser8170
      @agoogleuser8170 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tornado922 but in general they’re capable of 125mph?

  • @srduke
    @srduke 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    7:17 I always thought they ran with 1st class at the town end, not the country end.

    • @SionsTrainVideos
      @SionsTrainVideos 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah they do always at the london end

    • @Tornado922
      @Tornado922  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They do unless they are running in reverse formation which this HST set was doing that day

    • @srduke
      @srduke 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, there is a certain kind of logic to that I suppose LOL
