When I was an adolescent young girl, I was obsessed with DL. Their album "Pyromania" was out. I was in love with Joe Elliott. My older brother had the Pyromania tshirt. It was ripped and worn out. He wrapped it up and gave it to me as a Christmas present, one year. When I opened it up, I started screaming with excitement. What was amazing is the vocal layers are studio "trickery" in that they are layered, but much of the backing vocals were done by the guys who would be singing them live, notably Savage and Collen, who both have fantastic voices. The backing layers are cut with Elliott, too, but the depth is the real deal backline vocals, not just Elliott layered 10 times

Jay & Amber, as ravenous Def Leppard Fans (like me), I have to inform you that the band is putting out another album on May 22, called "Diamond Star Halos". I've heard a couple of songs from it, and.... yeah, it's amazing. As for your next Def Leppard song, I had to review the eight titles you've already done so I don't recommend something you've reacted to. You can do "Foolin", "Animal", "Armageddon It", "Rocket", "Make Love Like a Man", "Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad", or "Stand Up (Kick Love Into Motion)". To answer your question - Def Leppard's big breakout album was in 1983, Pyromania. It was one year later that Rick Allen lost his arm. Their follow-up album, Hysteria (which this is the title track of) ,was released in 1987, by which time Rick had been able to perfect one-armed drumming.

The album was supposed to come out in 1986, but singer Joe Elliott came down with the mumps, of all things. (It's much worse for adults than children, as I understand.) Rick had reported back for duty at the end of 1985, which is pretty impressive.
The album was the last for guitarist Steve Clark, who drank himself to death during the production of the next album. (The band had given him six months off to get sober. It didn't work, sadly.)

Now you need to check out "Armageddon It" on the same album. That is my all-time FAVOURITE *Def Leppard* song. Doesn't get as much love as the others on that album.
Another honourable mention is "Don't Shoot Shotgun": _...she's so dangeroooooouuuuuus 😝..._

This concert, Hysteria in the round, was my second favorite concert of all time. Only behind Queensryche Operation Mindcrime. This was Rick Allen’s comeback after his accident. The crowd went wild when he came out and got on the drums. It was also the last concert I saw with Steve Clark before he passed 😢. Love this whole album! 💕🎶🎸🎶💕

I agree. I was at 1 of the hysteria tour shows, (I had a front row seat) and I also seen 1 show of the operation
mind crime tour, & I definitely liked it better than the def lep show. even though my seat wasn't very good. The best live shows I ever went to were iron maiden, & DIO was really good live.

One of the rare releases that doesn't have a bad song on the entire thing. I remember buying the new cassette when it came out , not having to FF to the next good track in the car was a first just crank it up and rock out without touching it.

Rob Squad, you are amazingly insightful. I've listened to that song a hundred times over the years, and I've never deconstructionist it the way the two of you did. I groove to it of course but never paid much attention to its significance. You allowed me to hear it in a brand new way. Thanks for the gift

Love!! ❤ I was at the Hysteria concert in (I think) 1988 at the Hampton Roads Coliseum. Hubby was in the Navy, we lived in Virginia Beach (stationed in Norfolk). He was deployed, and my brother and sister showed up to visit me unexpected. Somehow we were lucky enough to win tickets they were giving away on a radio station. They were only giving away 2, but we talked them into 4 when we told them why. It was AWESOME!!❤

Def Leppard opened up for Eddie Money in 1981 in Augusta Ga on their first American tour and I was there and bought a t-shirt because I knew they were going to be the greatest 80s band ever! Been in love for 40 years. Back then the only place you could get a t-shirt was at a concert and it was a cherished item.

To me, it is obviously a love song - the protagonist is consumed by another person not present. That said, there can of course be a spiritual side to love and sexuality. And this song touches on it, it kind of walks the line between desperation and bliss. A true gem in my book.

One of the best lyrics ever “dream me off my feet” Can never listen to this song just once l, it has to be repeated at least twice back to back. To me the lyrics on the surface are about meeting a lover that you cannot resist because the fire is so hot. It may also be on a spiritual level because they connect in that way it’s makes the attraction so much more intense.

You know the story, after touring nonstop for Pyromania, the lads took a break before starting their next album. Rick got into that horrible car wreck, spent months in the hospital and came to terms with the fact he lost his arm. He spent time figuring out how to play with one arm, Mutt had left as producer and they tried to do it themselves.
Fate stepped in Mutt came back and they decided to play a small gig to see if Rick was up to it, they had another drummer standing by just in case.
Rick killed it! 3 years was a long wait for this album, but it was well worth it.

I get a very strongly emotional reaction to this song. It’s the guitar playing for me, there is so much feeling and heart in it. Steve and Phil together were amazing and Phil and Viv still are. If you get the chance to see them in concert I highly recommend it. If you want to hear a really different side to Def Leppard try Slang. They tried to go in a different direction but it didn’t play well for some of their fans but I love it.

He rolled his Corvette New Years Eve 1984 and lost his arm and spent 3 years learning to use his left leg to do what his right arm did and the band waited for his return, they supported him through it all. That's why they consider themselves family and not just a band
