I do not want to overlook some useful information I would like to share with my interested users. Needless to say this is only a particular way of doing this procedure and it is not a general rule.
One of the basis to get nice impressions on leather is to do the work on a very consistent press. After some trial and error practice I have realized that to emboss or deboss on leather it is necessary a pressure of 80 kg x cm2 approx. That is why I had to reinforce the original frame of my small press trying to replicate the 'C' / 'swan neck press' shape.
I think the best would be to make or adapt a 'hydraulic mechanism' with its 'hydraulic pressure gauge' to measure the necessary force for each 'stamp'. To also measure the temperature of 'heaten plate' it would be necessary a practical 'thermostat gauge' easy to manipulate, so we could see the 'required temperature' for each one of our stamping projects.
I am showing in the video that a 'low temperature' on 'heaten plate' is better than working on a too high temperature. After some practice I have determined that 100 centigrades degrees is a good temperature.
If we work on a low temperature, then the time of impression should be a little longer...therefore the outcome would be much better.
What is the 'hard cardboard for? It is put on between the 'heaten plate' and the aluminum stamps. It has two purposes: one is to just level the surface of heaten plate and the other is to alleviate the tension or force caused while pressing the stamp against the lower heaten plaque...I mean metal against metal could distort the shape of one of them. The 'heat' is transmited from the 'heaten plate' through the cardboard to the metallic stamp which somewhat helps to soften the leather material and while this stamp is pressed gives shape to the desired figure.

Hay también prensas para grabar que generan el calor con ondas de radiofrecuencia(elctromagnéticas) como las del microondas.

Estimado Sebas, El cartón que muestro es utilizado por los zapateros para hacer platillas de zapatos. En realidad lo uso sobre la plancha como un amortiguante al ejercer presión con el sello de metal. es decir para que no se presione 'metal con metal'. Como es un material mas blando sirve para emparejar la superficie.
Hay que estarlo cambiando de vez en cuando porque se llega a deformar. De todos modos el calor para el grabado, como se indica en el video es de 100 a 110 grados centígrados. Ud. puede conseguir otro material mucho mas resistente que reeemplaze a este cartón. Las pensas de las tenerías/curtidurías/curtiembres utilizan sobre la plancha caliente una especie de fieltro. No debe ser blando porque se hundiría el sello y el grabado saldría deformado.
Desconozco si el amianto pueda servir.

Tendría que mandarlos hacer. Esos sellos los hacen con máquina CNC de acuerdo a las medidas y la figura que el cliente lo solicite. Lo mejor sería que consulte con alguno de los profesionales que fabrican estos troqueles.

Yes, indeed! Same process applies for vinyl material. At the beginning of the eighties I was applying same method on motorcycle seats. Replicating those like-factory covers in vinyl. Es simplemente un cartón duro que se usa para plantilla de zapatos. Sirve de 'amortiguante' y 'nivelador' para que no 'peguen' los metales (sello y placa) directamente y puedan deformarse. Hay otros materiales que resisten un calor bajo y se pueden usar en lugar del cartón.

1- Entiendo que la placa de abajo está caliente, no? Sabes a cuantos grados?
2- Que es el producto que echas al final? Entiendo que es para rellenar el surco y luego pones la tela para "aplanar", no?
Haces un excelente trabajo y unos magníficos tutoriales.
La temperatura de la placa está a una temperatura aprox. de 100 grados centígrados. Le recomiendo usar un termostato con 'reloj regulador' que marca la temperatura.
Para rellenar el bajo relieve uso 'silicón' porque tiene flexibilidad y cierta dureza.

Supongo que se refiere a la prensita para vulcanizado de llantas que nos sirve para presionar los sellos contra el material de cuero/piel.

Hi Greg, A CNC machinist in a city near here did the 'horse stamp' for me but it was not really performed right and I had to do some little adjustments to get a better outcome, such as the height/gap between both dies which should not let touch the leather parts which would not be raised.The 'female/negative die' was Ok, but the male/positive die was not done properly, the figure is coarse and doesn't have the right contour of a positive die. Anyways, the idea and inspiration is given. It cost me 2,500 MPesos(135 US Dollars approx)
I'm aware there are excellent CNC milling machinists who can do excellent dies/stamps not only in Mexico, but in USA and other countries. I have not done a search yet because upholstery is just a limited hobby for me.
As far as I know you have some knowledge about the CNC matter...I saw it on one of your excellent videos.

As I have mentioned in a former video this small device is used to patch/vulcanize tires.It is not really a machine destined to do embossing...it's an adaptation I have done...what is important to do embossing is the heating plate which has a resistance inside. The required amount of heat is controled by the automatic device which is the thermostate gauge...it's the same as if it were an electric iron.
There are in the market some devices you could use for this purpose.

Where did you get the Cavallino Rampante stamp? From the video, it looks like it is really good quality
I ordered it to a CNC milling machine operator. There is a process to do it. First, he has to find a 'horse flat drawing' on internet and have to turn it to 3D trying to give the appearance the customer wants. After having the raised 3D design ready, he has to make two 'stamps/dies' one positive and the other negative. The only horse (positive and negative) should touch each other to make the embossing look. After having the drawings ready he has to transfer the information to a small card which is put in a slot of the CNC machine that works automatically.
This little horse was not properly performed. I had to do some little adjustments by hand. The problem is the operator has no much experience on 3D embossing figures. He's only an expert on low reliefs designs.
+Cechaflo interesting. I've been wanting to do something very similar to this for my Mustang headrests with the Running Horse logo. I'll be watching this video quite a few times as I do this. Thanks for the update on the die source

es una pena que aqui en españa no encontro troqueles asi con relevo para cuero
Navegando en el internet encontré unos links que a lo mejor son de utilidad. Los troqueles/sellos los podría mandar hacer en bronce ó aluminio. Los que fabrican estos sellos para grabar en cuero son los mismos que hacen trabajos similares en 2D y 3D para las imprentas, joyerias, etc.
