  • 00:00:03 - Plas Teg is a grade I listed Jacobean mansion, located near Pontblyddyn in Flintshire. For most of the 20th Century the house lay derelict. In 1986 Cornelia Bayley purchased Plas Teg, and poured her life and finances into the house. But the constant maintenance of the old building and estate has isolated Cornelia, and funds are at an all-time low. Ruth Watson advises her to offer out the house as a location for film and photo shoots, but Cornelia is worried about strangers harming her beautiful home.
00:46:15 - Riverhill House is a grade II listed rag-stone manor house, located in Sevenoaks, Kent. The house and estate were first developed in 1714, but were taken over by John Rogers in 1814. Today, four generations of the Rogers family live at Riverhill House, but the once treasured property has fallen into disrepair and needs a cash injection fast. Can Ruth persuade current heir Ed and his wife Sarah, as well as owner and director Jane Margaret Rogers to agree on a way forward for the historic estate?
01:33:27 - Carnfield Hall is a country house with 90 acres (360,000 m2) of parkland, located between Alfreton and South Normanton in Derbyshire. A hotchpotch of Elizabethan, Jacobean and Victorian architecture, the hall was abandoned in 1960 due to mining subsidence. James Cartland bought Carnfield in 1987 and has restored the house single-handed. However, with the gardens and woodland still in need of restoration, Ruth's guidance is needed to help James make Carnfield more profitable.
02:20:27 - The Heath House is a Gothic Revival mansion and estate located in Tean, Staffordshire. Despite the estate being owned by the Philips family for generations, current owners John and Flavia Philips are in their seventies and want to sell up, as the property is becoming a financial and physical drain. Eldest son Ben wants to keep the estate in the Philips family, so can Ruth come up with some ideas to make The Heath House financially viable in the long term?

That Gothic style house is fantastic. It would make a great movie set, and for murder mystery evenings. I would make some of the bedrooms into honeymoon suites. The property could be a working farm again and have hunting party weekends with a gourmet chef to cook the days catch, and a sommelier and a cocktail bar. I'd rent the place out for weddings, have tea room that sold old fashioned cakes and sandwiches from the houses era. Horse and buggy rides around the grounds, riding lessons etc. Make our own cheese and wines and have wine and cheese evenings. Also have plays and musical evenings - outside in the summer time with supper and booze included........

I always find these interesting to watch. I am sure that others will step up to help her if she puts herself out there.
It is about turning it into a business and registering them with historic societies so they can get support.

I saw that the time date in Ruth's car said 2009 (also the others shown in this documentary). I'd like to see what it is like today in 2024. I very much relate to Cornelia's anxiety at so many people around inside her home but there still being some of the social butterfly she once was shining through too. Ruth really helped this fearful lady! I would like to think Cornelia and her beautiful home really hit it off big. I will be searching for something current because I am so fascinated by it. Also Heath House. I was so frustrated with the dad!! Ben showed it could be done doing just guest & weddings to actually make more money than just upkeep on the place. I also like how his brother Justin was by his side in the argument to keep it. Finally Ruth got dad to agree to give his son two years (2011) to prove by living there & making it a viable money maker, it was well worth keeping the place OFF the market & in the family. Off the market they could book many events! Again this was all in 2009. So I'll check out how it goes today.

I thought that James Cartland who purchased Carnfield Hall, and wanted to be able to leave it to his godson, was completely out of touch with reality. He couldn't deal with a smart business professional who was a woman. Ruth was completely kind, professional, and she displayed good manners. James kept saying that Ruth needed charm school. He wouldn't have been treated with the same white glove treatment, the same perfect manners, and the same soft speech, by other business professionals, as Ruth treated him. James Cartland was actually a male loner who was completely devoid of manners and didn't show any respect for anyone.

English Heritage (name?) might have something to say about that. My guess is that they would want buildings
that look like the original. Anything that is modern or efficient (in today's world) might be frowned upon if it is not
well-hidden. E.H. also might have something to say about the type/breeds of the animals, favoring heritage breeds.

Tree houses are a wonderful idea in concept. However, I would think about the liability. If one of the children fell because they are rough-housing as boys will be boys, this could lead to an accident. I would make ground level tree houses more like children clubhouses, one for girls and one for boys. I would also have
security there to watch and make sure none of the children gets hurt.

That totally pale pink living room in Plas Teg, with everything pale pink including the modern wallpaper, the furniture and the pink flamingo , was hideous. I love the color pink for a wardrobe, but not for an entire guest room where others will share the room. It seemed like a room suited for a little girl.. It was also totally unsuited for the formal Jacobean mansion.
