  • Pentillie is a 17th-century castle and estate, located on the River Tamar, near St Mellion village in Cornwall. Pentillie has been the Coryton family seat since 1698, but current owners Ted and Sarah Coryton (who inherited the estate in 2007) were determined to sell it after various family disputes. However, Ted and Sarah have fallen in love with the castle and its grounds, and seek Ruth's professional advice to turn the estates fortunes around.

I think giving the business back to the community and choosing local craftsman and a haberdasher says a lot about the family. It helps the community around them thrive as well. The gardens are magical! Best of luck! 🌿🌸🌱

I love seeing the transformation of the castle from basically the start to where it is today that was shown on The American Viscountess. It’s come a long way since 2008. Sammy is as vibrant as ever!

I think Ruth knows what's she's talking about she's a professional she also wants the castle to be successful more importantly she wants the family to be happy with their decision. I'm glad to see the owner's statue is being taken care of and will greet visitors, his mausoleum too.

I like the look of age. I hope they don’t modernize things too much. The point, for me, in visiting historic places is to see what it get would have looked like, to step into a moment in time.

I think to have to pay 6 Million Inheritance Tax is too extreme. The money should go into restoring the place. Should have been able to have a double name.

The government should make that tax to contribute the property, that saves the costs and not taking all for staffolding the country's expences.

US inheritance tax is nothing like this. The first $5million is tax free. Then one only pays 20% max of the value of the estate.
Even that is unethical as inheritance tax is double taxation!

What a ridiculous amount of tax........that money should be allowed to be kept in the family for the purpose of refurbishing the house and bringing it back ti glory, as well as making it a going concern that can pay for itself in the future.

That is an unreasonable amount of taxes! Somebody in the family was wealthy at one time but that wealth doesn’t always trickle down! They need to talk to Luke and Julie Montague the next Earl of Sandwich. They are doing the very same things. American Viscountess is Julie’s TH-cam channel and Luke is Mapperton Live.

Hi Ruth, I think what they should have done was maybe sell off some of the land, that is farther away from the castle, to give them the funds to hire experts and to pay for some of the restoration of the gardens, make them presentable for showing, taking in money from the tours as they work on the house. I hope that they were able to resurrect the castle into a beautiful home and business. Thanks for showing us.

It would be a huge waste to do so in England with all the cloud cover. You would actually be contributing to a larger carbon footprint-couldn’t make enough energy to offset the energy it took to create the solar panels in the first place. Leave solar to clear, sunny climates.

The English charge a horrendous amount of inheritance tax. Are they trying to bankrupt every old listed home in the UK? I can only imagine the amount of inheritance tax King Charles had to pay on all those castles. Oh let me guess the monarchy don’t have to pay inheritance tax L O L
