    Great tips... 👍 I bought a Thai Constellation baby... it only has 2 small leaves but she is gorgeous! She is planted in spaghnum moss and I've had her about a month. I wish I would have waited to spring to purchase as we are just going into fall. She looks great so far... I'm wanting to place her in soil soon. I paid big bucks for her as I couldn't afford a big one. Hope she lives!

    I was so so careful with my Thai con, only watering when I wasn't seeing condensation on the walls of the clear pot and the top couple cm of the potting mix felt dry, and using a moisture meter if I wasn't sure. Still got root rot and have lost almost all the roots 😭 Currently have it in perlite and planning to move it to pon in a self watering pot once it has some roots. Also, it's just as we're going into spring, so I'm guessing I'm gonna miss out on a prime leaf growing time because it's focusing on roots.

    • @simpleplanty
      @simpleplanty  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's quite interesting how sensitive the MTC is to root rot huh! It could have initially been your substrate being quite dense - but no worries, once it's settled you'll see some new growth ☺️🌱

    Which direction is your window facing where you normally put your TC? I live in Sydney too and my main window is North-west facing, do you think it will be enough for the TC to grow ok without use of grow light? I put my plants right next to that window but use a thin white roller blind to diffuse the direct sunlight hitting them. Thanks!

    • @simpleplanty
      @simpleplanty  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mines north east and I get plenty of morning and all day sun! You might want to be a little careful with the direct west afternoon sun as it's a little harsher (but you've got the thin white roller to diffuse which should be okay). I don't have any grow lights and it's been doing very well ☺️ do you have the diffuser down all the time? If you're bothered to be rolling it up and down, it'd be better if it was only diffusing while the 'direct' afternoon light is hitting your plant on days where you can. Hope that helps!

    • @simpleplanty

      Hi just a question im in tassie just recently got my thai monstera cuttings with plenty of roots i repotted it into Leca cause im scared that if i put it in soil it well have root rot just like my previous one what can you suggest please!thanks

    • @simpleplanty
      @simpleplanty  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@lizasiciban9232 Hi Liza! Thanks for watching - no issues with keeping it in Leca if that's your preferred substrate, just note that Leca itself doesn't contain any nutrients, so if you want to continue leaving this to grow in Leca, you'll have to provide this when watering. You'll need special semi-hydroponics fertiliser for this which you could probably acquire from the store that you got your Leca from. Also, it sounds like you've recently transferred this from Leca, so I don't recommend switching the substrate again too soon to prevent stressing the plant. If you wanted to transfer it to another substrate later, remember it will take time to adjust again. Sad to hear you had root rot on your previous one! If you originally planted it in a really chunky soil mix, this could have helped!

    Hi. I have just purchased a Thai and am keen to hear your advice on avoiding root rot with these beauties? I am reading more and more disaster stories with them. Is soil the best substrate or lechuza pon ? Many thanks.

    • @simpleplanty
      @simpleplanty  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Bron! Yep, they're pretty prone to root rot, I even notice that if I leave too much water in my saucer then some of the escaping bottom roots will quickly rot 😅 Honestly, substrate is down to personal preference as there are pros and cons with each - just ensuring that you're not overwatering with the substrate that you select is key (and understanding when you need to water). I'm sure you're well versed to gauge through experience with your other plants 😊🌱

      @@simpleplanty thanks for your quick response and yep killed 16 of my hoya converting to pon in past two months due to not knowing if i was underwatering or overwatering. i want to check my new thai roots but you say to let it sit for a couple weeks before doing anything.....

    • @simpleplanty
      @simpleplanty  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bronwolff6335 no worries - I mean I personally try not to disturb when bringing it home straight away, just to be safe but if you're able to gently remove it from the pot (perhaps press on the outskirts of the pot to loosen the substrate), you can have a look at it safely 😊

      @@simpleplanty Thank you so much! :) Congratulations on your new variegated monsteara. Can't wait to see more of your videos! I was looking at soltech grow lights also, so in the future will get one for my Thai when it gets bigger. I have a small grow light that I have my baby about 23 inches away from so the leaves won't get scorched. My main windows face North, and my bedroom is southwest. But I'm on the coast of Oregon, and have super high humidity all the time since we are in a temperate rainforest climate. I'm very lucky for that! I always keep at least one window open enough to pull all of that humidity in my apartment, and its usually around 65 to 73 degrees in here. You have awesome emoji's and for the life of me I can't find those lol. I'm getting two juvenile monstera deliciosa's also (sp) in the next couple of weeks. Looking forward to that too! I'll have a jungle in here.

      @@StormyAfterDark Thankyou so much! And congratulations on your Thai and your prospective two juvenile monstera's! They're going to grow like crazy from what it sounds like, since the conditions in your home sound amazing! 😊 I used to live in Singapore where the humidity was high and would have been perfect for plants! I'm always in awe when I travel to places with high humidity and see plants just thriving on the side of the road 😂 I do think my emoji game is quite strong 🤭 I've also got some lights that I've repurposed as grow ones, but I get enough light luckily in my apartment that I've decided not to use them.
