    Lately I find myself fascinated by this enigmatic, enchanting person. What a commanding presence! She had that certain je ne sais quoi. I can't imagine how anyone could challenge her in even the most minimal fashion. Thank you for posting. Can't believe I'm just now seeing this amazing glimpse into her personal life.

    She lived on Roxbury Drive in Beverly Hills, the same street that Lucille Ball, Jack Benny, and other stars lived on. I'm fascinated by the movie star homes from the Golden Age of Hollywood.

    Roxbury Drive was home to many famous stars. In the first few blocks lived Agnes Moorehead, Polly Bergen, Rosemary Clooney, Peter Falk, Jack Benny, Lucille Ball, and Jimmy Stewart. Several of those homes have been torn down, glad her house was spared!

    • @richardmcleod5967
      @richardmcleod5967 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Lucky her house is still standing........as many of the homes have been torn down to build "McMansions". Her home does not appear to have met the same destruction as the others nearby. Roxbury Drive is hardly recognizable from these "Glory days". The City Council just voted to tear down Bob Hope's home (2018). Clifton Webb's home was also torn down (to make way for a "McMansion") for all this new Hollywood trash.
      Jimmy Stewart's home nearby has been torn down to make way for a new one and this list goes on and on with no respect for the history of the past as it pertains to the beautiful homes build by the Hollywood stars during this period. Great artisan's in many cases from Europe provided the expert workmanship and detail with the best of materials when these homes were built. Now many homes are either completely torn down or renovated from any recognition of the home's original look. Ginger Rogers home is now being renovated and hopefully respect will be taken to maintain the home as it looked originally without the Home Depot touches.
      The greatest losses were the homes Mary Pickford's "Pickfair" and "Falcon Lair" the home of Rudolph Valentino. Both homes were torn down. Most of the homes still standing have been so altered as to be unrecognizable. Wooden windows replaced with aluminum double paned glass from the local Home Depot and so forth!

      @@alanweinstein8625 Many of the older historic residential areas in the Los Angeles area have had lovely older homes of moderate and adequate size torn down so that huge new homes can be built on the site of either one of these homes or in many cases on several lots that once had several smaller but adequate homes that reflected the time period primarily from the 1920's through the 1950's. Even in Beverly Hills many of the homes of famous older stars from the Golden Era of Hollywood have been torn down so new "McMansions" can be built. The home of Jimmy Stewart and many other famous stars (which were very lovely themselves) have been torn down for these huge modern monstrosities to be built. Same with the the lovely homes of Rudolph Valentino and even Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. and Mary Pickford. Their home was once called the "White House" of the West Coast, yet the original house was torn down, the lot subdivided and a "McMansion" or "MacMansions" built on the site.
      Even the home of Bob Hope in the Toluca Lake area of Los Angeles is now being considered for a "tear-down" so the property can be used for a shopping center and large condos to be built on the site of his historic property with lovely grounds and a beautiful well kept home. Many other famous homes of historic value have already been torn down for these "McMansions" to be built.
      The Los Angeles Conservancy has tried to same many of them, and have been successful in many cases, but in others not so successful as in the case of the fames "Ambassador Hotel", home of the Cocoanut Grove and once one of the most famous Hotels in the World. It was also the site of many of the first ceremonies of the Academy Award. Now the most expensive school in the United States has been built on the site, which is primarily used for the children of Illegal immigrants. Los Angeles has many schools already and this new expensive one wasn't even needed, as these children could have attended other existing schools. The City Council of Los Angeles shows very little interest maintaining the architecture of the City from past years as so many historic buildings (many built by noted architects of the past) have been needlessly torn down, even including the famous "Brown Derby" Restaurant which was across the street from the Ambassador Hotel.
      Many lovely well built older homes (many of the Arts and Crafts style) have been destroyed for these huge overly designed modern new homes, nicknamed "McManions". In the process, many of the residential areas have lost the older charm once so common in the Los Angeles area whereby these modern monstrosities can be built.

      Los Angeles is notorious about it. Many of the great homes of Los Angeles have been torn down. It is hard to believe that the Rudolph Valentino Estate (Falcon Lair) and the Douglas Fairbanks, Sr./Mary Pickford (Pickfair) homes were torn down. Even the John Paul Getty home that was used in the movie "Sunset Boulevard" with Gloria Swanson was torn down some time back. Sadly, I think it is now just a parking lot for an ugly Office building in an otherwise still well maintained neighborhood. You would have thought they would have at least saved that house as the area is still primarily residential and because of its' association with the Getty family, and later used in "Sunset Boulevard", one of the greatest films to come out of the Golden Age of Hollywood. If the homes had no value, or were just beyond help, I could understand it, but that is not the case with most if not all of the one's that have been destroyed thus far. The City as a whole doesn't seem to care or appreciate their value.@@alanweinstein8625

      @@cowboykelly6590 : Yeah...I remember the farm house episode...that I though at the time was pretty nerve tingling. The other one you mentioned about the bat was one I don't remember at all. She was a great actress. Back in the late 40's or early 50's there was a radio program on with other radio personalities talking about how they got their training for the stage. Agnes said she studied acting at the Shakespearian School of acting in England for two years. I think most all Actors who studied there were the best we had in this country, because it has been said that is the best acting school for those who speak the English language. If you don't have "Satellite Radio" you might enjoy the old time Radio Shows from back in the day. You would need to buy a special XM radio receiver for your house. and then Buy the the subscription. I should have prefaced this by knowing if you were a kid at that time, because you would have listened to the old stories, and possibly be interested in what "XM" has to offer in today's world. I have it in my car and listen to Channel 6 a lot...Original 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's music and beyond. Plus all kinds of talk shows...sports, etc. Anyway,...I have gone of on a small rant...Sorry.

    If you really think about this estate, this is the house "Endora" would have and she did. Shortly after she passed, I was lucky enough to walk through this estate, complete with her furniture and as a 13 year old, as well as a fan of "Endora" I could only think she'd be entering and saying hello to my cousin, the late Charles Schram.
