Honestly, I cannot judge the son and daughter too harshly for their stalemate in court. As someone with a sour relationship with their only sibling, I dread the future of handling our parent's affairs. These two siblings probably have A LOT of reasons why they're at odds that we'll never know about. It's sad to see so much property fall into ruin, but idk.... at the end of the day, it's just stuff. If the conflict truly was about memories and belongings, they would've found a compromise that gave both parties a portion of what meant the most to them. But I don't think their conflict is about property, at it's core.
Heartbreaking. If that was my mom's house, I would want everything that is inside. Keeping the memory of my parents alive will be the most important thing for me... not money. I can make my own money but the objects and memory are unique and you cannot buy new one in a store.

It's shameful that the bickering brother and sister allowed their greed to overshadow their mother's legacy of love & kindness. She worked hard all her life for those things. The water damage has done a number on the antiques and framed artwork, the result of their legal disputes. It's all just rotting away.

I have my great grandmother's Singer sewing machine. I am 72 years old so you can imagine how old it is. It is in excellent shape too. That device you wondered what it was. It's not a cash register but it is a device to print checks. I would give anything to have that quilt on the first bed. It was beautiful. After so long the state should be able to take it over and try to save some of the antiques. That cottage by the pond is in better shape than the house and is probably older. They built things to last back in the day. Our builders should be ashamed of their work now. I truly enjoy your explorations.

This was a good one. Just the education of showing what could happen when greed steps in. In the end nobody wins and the honor and memory of the mom is tarnished. Im sure there is regrets but the pride wont let anyone give in. Thank you for showing the things we dont offten see. The honor you bring to the life this woman had is a blessing. The antiques are a sad loss, but the memories lost are sadder. From the looks of the home; once probate is resolved, there won't be anything to save.

I can picture this home as it was many years ago, in such a beautiful, quiet, tranquil location near a pond and surrounded by trees and serenity. I imagine at some point, they all really loved living there. The things left behind don't impact me as much as just picturing what it was like for the souls who occupied that space. The photos on the mantel are haunting. It's incredible that they have fought for so long, never forgiving, never making amends... While a place that used to bring so much happiness, fell into absolute ruin. Only on their deathbeds will they realize none of it mattered

I just saw that thing you called a cash register. I worked in banks in the 1970’s. It’s for certified cheques, you slide the check lengthwise in on the bottom slot, enter the amount, pull the lever and it puts an official seal and embosses the amount on the check. So nobody can mess with the amount of the certified check. Hope I explained that okay. ❤

It's so sad that these siblings fought so much that what they were fighting over is gone. Why didn't they keep the house nice to preserve all those antiques??? I think that heavy metal item you picked up needed weights on each side to balance it but I could be wrong. I love antiques and I have quite a few antique dishware, tablecloths, lamps and doilies, so I don't understand this at all!!!!!

Because one sibling believes that they are entitled to more of the estate than the other. Greed. Quite common. Entitlement.

WOW Jeremy that old singer sewing machine my grandma owned one exactly like that that one it opened up just the same way that is awesome find love watching your videos you always have such groovy finds antiques and so much more can't believe though the family don't come and rescue their loved ones belongings and keep them for memory sake for me if I could have had the chance to salvage my grandparents old house and antique anything I would in a heartbeat however that wasn't an option for me I was taken from my grandparents not once but twice and was raised in Foster care that was and is my most loneliest part of growing up I'm sure after 50years gone past it would all have been taken over by nature always enjoy your videos and that voice I could sit around a camp fire and listen to you tell stories for hours your absolutely amazing your explorez are far the best..PEACE ✌️🎉

This was a good one Jeremy .It's hard to see that the owner worked so hard to have material things throughout her life to see them deteriorate after death. A lot of memories. It just lets me know not to have a lot of material things I really don't need. And times have changed. It used to be the daughters, and sons would look forward to receiving the material goods for memories or because valuble antiques to pass down to their children to keep it in the family. But now our kids, values have changed, and they don't want our stuff. It's sad 😢

A lot of people in my family are the same. Let me tell you, it’s a Horrible thing.
Just like this story, it tears a family apart and those with this greed are the ones who suffer! The condition of this home and the sentimental items left behind are forever lost. Like you said, so many wonderful Collector Items worth something will soon not be worth anything. This is proof that families must come together to save what is truly important, and that is maintaining the family itself and all the love they once shared!

Unfortunately, antiques aren't going for what they used too. My parents were collectors going back to the early 60's (both of their parents collected too) and were living in New Hampshire. They would buy old Colonials that were from the 1600's and 1700's fully furnished with antiques, fix up the houses and sell them. They had their pick of what to keep and what not to, so they had really good stuff. Well, back in 2015 my parents wanted to retire to Florida and decided to sell off the antiques, but not a lot of people were interested. Apparently, much of the younger generations aren't attracted to them like the previous generations - is at least what my parents were told by many people who sell them and they are actually looking to get out of the business (some after 40 or 50 years as antique dealers) because of very slow sales. Older people aren't buying that much anymore and the young people dont want anything to do with them. So, after a while my parents pretty much sold it all for pennies on the dollar. Times certainly have changed. There just isn't a big enough market anymore - supply and demand. Hopefully others have a different story. Anyways, it's sad to see what the kids have done ( or haven't done) with the family house. I wonder just how far back their anger goes for one another - I can guarantee it didn't start at the Will, it's been going on for some time.
It seems that many antiques have taken a nosedive in recent years. The youngest generation collect experiences not "things" so most items, with the exception of art work and Mid Century Modern items, have severely decreased in value. Many older people looking at the rotted furniture will think it expensive and valuable, when, in fact, it is not. The dwelling itself is probably the most valuable asset, but sitting and rotting away really it is not so much either.
This makes my heart sad. All of this just sitting there rotting when family could have enjoyed it. I love the work you do man. Your talent for this is second to none! And oh by the way, no peek into the fridge in the guest house, bro! This is an absolute shame, the house I mean. Keep up the excellent work ❤
What an amazing find with such a sad story! I imagine Mama didn't have this in mind when she was imagining the future of her children when they were still babies. It bears my heart that they were so stubborn, that in the end, they lost the ability to keep memories of happier times alive as well as whatever it was that was SO important to them thst they had to fight over it! Now, of course, it is mostly in ruins. Such a sad, sad end to a beautiful abandoned home.

You are very thorough, In your abandoning videos, which really makes it interesting for me being a grandmother and loving antiques and history. Hi Jeremy! I get what you’re saying about all that stuff in the home & guest house. I’m not positive, but I believe once the kids stared bringing in lawyers, & in went in probate, they couldn’t go in there & take anything etc. Hands off until it’s settled & all the taxes & any bills of the late owner are paid. Since the kids never settled, it sits there & rots. Crazy. When we lived in Louisiana, there was a beautiful cottage we were interested in. It was in probate for years & when we left the state a couple years later, it was still in probate. So sad. Thanks for another great explore! Great seeing you. PS the tiles in the bathrooms looked 60’s. Even late 50’s. That medicine chest had the slot for used razors. That definitely dates back later than 70’s. Seeya next time
Why is everybody judging the owner of this house the children and the family left behind as you saw it has electric to it and some of the rooms look like they've been working on them there are things packed up looks like they've been in there trying to pack the place up don't rush to judgment until you know the truth behind it.
It's an old Check Writing Machine
I hear your concern about the judgement. Here's the thing. The house and its contents are stuck in the court system which means no one can remove anything from the house legally. It's not up to the court to decide. It's the family who has to agree. Second, this house is very close to falling in on itself. If they were boxing it up, the removing of such items should be of urgency because that house won't stand much longer. Add to it the level of mold and the risk of the house catching on fire because the electricity is still connected is indicative of someone who doesn't care. The signs are there.
It is sad, but with all the abandoned explorers documenting these homes, we see so much of the very same thing. I know there's different stories and reasons for memories and homes being left and only those connected know the whole story. They should have at least had the power turned off. The mother actual may have been a hoarder, trying to fill the loss of her husband and maybe the loss of the children not coming to see her? So she fill her home and life with a lot of things. Sad, no matter the reasons.
We don’t know the backstory behind the competing wills. There are so many possibilities that it’s not for us to judge (response to comments in chat & here).
It’s possible that one of her children did something that made her so angry that she cut him/her out of the will. Splitting it may not be her wishes. Another possibility is grandchildren. If one of her kids has more grandkids she may have adjusted inheritance accordingly. Instead of 50/50 for his 2 daughters, my grandfather made his will to equally divide 7 ways-2 daughters, 5 grandchildren (3 to one dau & 2 to other).
The dispute may not even be about monetary greed. There could be squabbles over sentimental items with no monetary value (handmade items, etc). This happened in my family. No legal disputes but longstanding hard feeling. Such as for instance over a very old family drum that is set under the Christmas tree that wasn’t delineated in the will. Not squabbling over money-but that drum is nostalgic & worth more than any money.
I feel the same way you do. We don't know the backstory of their lives and conflicts. At the end of the day, this impasse they've reached probably has NOTHING to do with the items in the house and everything to do with family history. And as we all know, just because someone is family doesn't mean we like, love, or tolerate them.

This kind of video helps me reflect on what really matters in this life and definitely not things staff. I never want to live all my stuff for my children to clean up or get rid of.
So sad to see that everything that the woman that lived there worked for is now just decaying away, it's like her whole life's work meant nothing to her children to just let everything be left to rot and that is a sad thing. If the children disagreed so strongly on things, there should have been a 3rd party to sell everything and split it right down the middle rather than to just leave everything. I think the machine thing that you thought was some sort of cash register is actually a device for cutting checks. Good job, and thanks for sharing this one.

The Green Machine is not a cash register, but rather a check imprinting machine. You used the levers to set each value ( including$ and . for cents), slid the check stock in then pulled the larger lever to raise the check up and embossed the monetary amount on the check. 😮 I used one in the 80's when we had to cut manual checks out side of our compurter generated and printed regularly scheduled bi-weekly check runs.
Yes, that is correct! I used one of those machines when I used to work in a small office, back in the 80's & 90's. I would imprint the checks and then my boss would sign them.

Sounds like my crazy brothers. My evil and demented brother tried to kill my mother by doubling her heart meds because she was taking too long to die. He would not let my sister or I visit her the last year of her life. Had we tried someone would have got killed and my mom would hate that. My oldest brother had always been psycho. He wasn't in her will because she had already given him so much, he was supposed to get the house and 35 acres. He sued me, for I was her POA. I went ahead and cut him into the will and he got his share, yet he kept everything in the house. Everything, even things I gave her, even things that were mine. Not worth it. I wanted him out of my life! These are just things! When you see or buy a beautiful antique, remember there is a story behind it, and if it's up for auction or you find it abandoned it's probably a sad hurtful one.

Hi Jeremy this home looks like it was built in the '60s It has almost Identical features as our home in N.C. which was built in 1961. Even the pink bathroom tiles and the stove knobs look the sam, also the baseboards and doorknobs. Thanks for sharing.❤👍

It's really tragic and sad how they didn't even try to keep their mother house my father sold a big house my mother died and left us and my mother put my brothers wife as co signer and she edged my father to sell the house he didn't care 17 grand children and 1 great grand my grand daughter it's truly heartbreaking 😢 wish we kept our house smh

That machine at 35:59 is a PAYMASTER check printer that stamped a tamper-proof amount on a check. Small businesses used them in the 1950's and 1960's. Not much collectible value today.

Both of those vehicles can be fixed and cleaned up and driven again. In fact I would love to have that van, I could work wonders with it. That is my favorite body style for those vans. It is also my favorite color. I would be willing to make an offer to the probate court for it.
I know you like to leave things how you found them, but honestly the best thing you could have done before leaving, would be to flip the main breaker off in the panel box. It would be awful for that house to catch on fire and that fire spread to nearby homes and businesses.
