I spent my childhood in this mall. I remember a fountain where the Easter Bunny was set up, and lost so many quarters in Alladin's Castle. Good to see MCL going strong. It was my grandparents favorite restaurant, so many meals there. Shame to see it failing, but maybe malls will be an answer to the homeless problem in Muncie!
As someone who only recently moved into Muncie, I have to say I can't imagine how sad it must've been for the people who spent their entire lives here to have what was once a popular hangout spot gradually deteriorating. On a brighter note, the mall does have a bit of an anchor store somewhat in the form of Books-a-Million, the store I usually go to for purchasing manga to add to my collection. As far as I know, that store is doing better thanks to the new manga boom.
Yes, that mall was awesome 30 years ago and more. Used to have a great video game arcade. Aladdin’s castle I believe was the name. Of course had a great music store too to get your cd’s/tapes. It was a good place to go.
I remember coming here a lot when i was younger, and I never realized how much it's changed since I've been there last. I knew that time and the pandemic would've changed alot about it regardless but still this is so sad since I've had family that's worked there for a long while.
You know your in Muncie/Delaware county by the looks of the bad roads! When jobs left so did people and that tanked the economy for the area. I still know people that live in the area but last time I drive through there I couldn’t believe how bad everything looked!
This was depressing for me. When I was little, I used to think this place was magical at night time with the neon lights and all the cool stores. Now it's barren by comparison.
Before this video I watched one of this mall from 4 years prior. It was still pretty active and had three anchors. It's really sad to see how far it's gone downhill since then. But I was really surprised to see an MCL still operating here. It looks like it's more of a traditional restaurant now than a cafeteria though which makes sense in a post COVID world.
Its strange how we are seeing the decline of the enclosed mall but seeing (again) the rise of the strip mall, perhaps its just an ebb and flow but in the 80s and 90s the enclosed mall was super popular and the strip malls were dying.
It's all about what you have to offer. The mall in Muncie doesn't offer anything anymore. When I was a kid there were so many stores and things to do. It really breaks my heart.
This is one of the planest, bland malls i've seen, no character, very drab, no personality and blah architecture. But im sure it holds a special place in the hearts of the locals.
Sad to see it the way it is now! I grew up with the Mall full of stores back in 1971.😢
My hometown mall! This is depressing! I still love MCL!

Thanks for your video. It is so sad for the mall does not have any anchor stores which means no employment for the locals.

it won't surprise me if this mall closes by the next year or so :( sad because a lot of my childhood was spent here

Thank you so much! Now I can walk the mall without leaving my couch!
Glad I could help!

I visit here frequently! Shoutout you for making this video; kinda sad, but thank you!

You would’ve had to been there 30 years ago. It looks nothing like it did back then.
