I've heard two-handed swords are now far more profitable than Javelins, what's your opinion!?! NOTE: As this is now 7-8 months out of date, and smithing has been greatly overhauled in the last few patches, I'm in the process of redoing the smithing guide to make sure it stays relevant and helpful for new and old players alike. WITH THAT SAID.. is there any tips YOU have that you would like to share with the community?
useing smithing now and i can say that yes smithing can still net you a large income of money, but i did find that having the grip giving one and two handed uses makes more now
The thing that I figured out pretty late is that you can use companions for smithing. In fact, you actually want to do that. Because the more points you spend on smithing, the harder it will be to level other skills. And since there are so many useless companions anyway and the smithing skill is so easy to level, your best bet is hiring a few low-level companions with no useful party skills and using them solely as sweatshop workers.
even better, just make every companion also a smith, it levels them up nicely. it only costs 5 focus points. I favor surgeon as that is the one must have skill, and make them archers to keep them alive. any combat ability is trivial in an army of hundreds and will just get them killed faster. Making them steward for little bit of quick leveling. I think, not sure, that companion party leaders can also have a surgeon role. so switch between that and steward to train up both their skills and either intelligence or endurance. Low level companions level up faster and have fewer unnecessary skills.
@@stephanehoarau9514 I meant must have party role skill for companions indeed, it saves so many lives. I'm assuming you'll want stewardship on your main.
@@teambellavsteamalice Thanks for your kind answer. Indeed I always use some companions with it, but i had a doubt and wondered if I missed something and if it would be a good idea to have it on your main character too^^
No, it affects your required experience for your level. Not the other individual skills. Plus leveling up smithing in turn levels up your character, which allows you to have more attribute and focus points. But, I always use a companion so I don't waste focus points on smithing.
I did this and makeb city in the Khuzait region since is the best since it’s next to a village which produces hardwood and also it’s near amprela which has good puigo and xiphos supply
A slightly more expensive option to aquire all the Steel you need, Tribesman Throwing Daggers are a really good Option. Also they come in big bunches usually!
I said this in another video of yours, but I think it bears repeating. This method is tried and true for me. I was in the middle of a game and had built my character without smithing in my mind at all. Still, I was interested in the system so did it on the side, trying to build a stockpile of smithing goods just in case I ever wanted to explore it more. So I had a smithing level of 39, smithed a 2-handed sword that I had randomized, and figured, what the heck, let's see what happens. Sold for 6.3k and I realized: I was doing money ENTIRELY wrong! Went out and found a smithing companion and the rest is history. in an hour's time, smithing went up from 39 to 62 and gold went from 16k or so up to 70k while still doing other things. It occurs to me that I think playing the game distracts you from making money hand over fist with smithing, amusingly enough.
Just wanted to drop my thanks for your guide. I took your approach in an already underway save in 1.5.9. 4 two-handed swords later and I have $111k in the bank. It’d be more but the damn markets/traders can’t afford full price for my handiwork!
While part of a faction you can give a clan party all of your crafted weapons and they will go sell them all at once and you get 100% of the price through that parties income, just make sure they dont get captured as you wont get the money all at once
Remember that javelin exploit where you can give it to your party and the party will sell them and make you money well for whatever reason idk if it's castle or party but I made so many javelin I put half in a castle and half in one of my parties but the thing is I did the party one a long time ago and they even got captured and made a new party in which I never gave them more javelin and now I have them as a free army but for whatever reason that same party is still selling javelins out of the blue even if they are in my army they still are selling javelins I noticed this cause I went from 10m to 41m for whatever reason just wanted to tell you
This tutorial saved me. I have spent over 50 hours in the game struggling constantly with money. I don't know how many years have passed in the game, but I can tell you that it has been hard. With this method, I finally understood how to do it right and now I generate a lot of money. It took me approx 3 months in the game to get to 100K because the materials aren't the same as in your game, but I got there without worrying now. Thank you!
Another good weapon for smelting in latest patch 1.5.10beta, - I think they’re called Tribesman Throwing Knives. They yield the same materials as Pugios, are available in virtually every town, and are available in MUCH higher quantities: usually between 10-20 of them for sale. The only drawback is they are about twice as expensive (like 550 for a stack). Once the money is flowing though, not a big deal. I find their availability is significantly higher than Pugios, so I don’t mind paying the premium.
From what I can tell, if it is for levels and learning more recipes, jsut smelt down the weapons you crafted. A Two-Handed sword which took 8 Steel and 1 Charcoal to craft, smelted down to 7 Steel. And when you no longer worry about the money and highest cost efficiency, that saves a lot of time on getting all the materials.
For a speedrun any% for smithing, find Romund the Smith and have him as a companion, and switch to him when you want to smith things, though its best to get a secondary companion to get the efficient charcoal perk as rolund has efficient steel. Im not even an in-game week in and because of his higher smithing initially I managed to unlock tier 5 stuff for twohand and wreck the economies of a lotta places.
Hi Domstastic, you can try the Tribesman Throwing Dagger, it costs and gives nearly similar to those pugios. Hope it helps. Version 1.5.10. And like you said we don't need to desperately stick to javelin to survive and be wealthy Lord now...
@@DucNguyen-Dalexa Indeed, the Tribesman is superior for the higher end steel. It also gives like 5 bars, I think, of total material including one steel and one fine steel. A great item to smelt.
Heads up, the prices have been reduced for the weapons ( used to be 100k plus, now its 50k at max) in bannerlord and the javelin no longer gives stonks anymore.
Why don't you buy throwing daggers? They're cheap and have more materials than forks and hammers. And from the Aserai you buy Southern throwing daggers, they are better than puggios.
Instead of buying the low items to smelt(pitchforks, hammers etc) you can just kill the small bands of looters with bow and arrow on horseback and get them for free
Yeah do that in the beginning of the campaign for a while with 20 soldiers and by the time you get around to smithing you have so many weapons to smelt.
Not sure if this was already clarified from any of your previous videos after the "Smithing Secrets" video (which I just watched a couple minutes ago), but you stated there that in crafting 2H swords you should make sure that the grip is tagged with only 2H so as not to pull down its price. I visited this video just to put this comment: You can actually just press the 2H tag if there's a 1H or 2H tagging in the smithing option. That way the price is still calculated as a 2H sword~ Been doing that since last year and just recently picked up the game again this month and it's still the same so I doubt there's any change to that :D
Hey Dom, thank you for your videos, I really enjoy your tone, pace and content. I'm running 1.5.9. Hey, thank you for the kind words! You're definitely right to an extent, I think I may have just worded it poorly, Swing Cut Damage definitely have an effect on higher priced weapons, but from the testing I've done, the difficulty has *more* on an effect. So they're definitely both good to focus on, but as far as I'm aware, Difficulty > Swing Cut Damage

My in game brother is like holy crap where have you been?
Thanks for your great guide Domtastic. I have a question, what can I do with the money? Caravans and workshops are a good option? and, How much money towns have? Now i can craft weapos for 150k gold but they never have so much money, is there a way to sold those weapons and receive the money or you just have to take stuff instead?
my one/two handed swords are selling about 10k more than the 2 handed swords i make currently, i've got a couple tier 3 handles that are both 1 and 2 handed, and they're going for around 25-30k compared to the 2handed only handels which are only at tier 2 - I'm not getting any luck for higher tier 2 hander only handles XD I'm almost at 100 smithing lmao
and now with 1.6.4 its the direct opposite: for maximum profit you need the handles which can be toggled between 1handed and 2handed... seems like Taleworlds cant decide ^^
I made an mistake and did not activate steel maker 1 so its missing in my list and hinders me to make fine steel Without smelting steel weapons like pugios I can not make it myself. I am at level 143 and hope at end I canake it but not sure it's my first week in game
Well my problem now is that I forge a 100k denars worth weapon but, there's no town that have that amount of money so, I sell it to take all of their money and they'll like owe me on the next one..
Thanks, this worked, just got 100 k qucik. You cant really sell a 70 k sword, only maybe for 40k at a town. But my struggle is that I cant get enough steel, or I can only buy swords at the empire which gonna give me steel I guess...
Started a second playthough, could not get a decent 2h sword part to get me above 2-3k. I noticed that I was getting a lot of parts for other things so went searching. Turns out I had parts to make a t6 glaive that sells at 40k.
Hi, isnt it better to be able to craft steel yourself? instead of getting it from smelting? I just wanna ask because I dont really know what should I pick into my skill tree..
It is far more efficient to smelt tribal throwing daggers to get your high quality steels, the only perk you really need is the one for making thamaskene steel, but I usually give at least one of my companions all the steel making perks so if I'm short one or two pieces I can refine what I need.
Also, the curious crafter perk is really important for unlocking parts if what your after is custom weapons for yourself, so I tend to not give the steel making perks to my character so I can unlock all the parts I dont need because RNGesus doesnt want me to make my manevlion tipped short spear T.T
Just got the game and started it never saw any guides, and i'm role playing as some1 who smithied and was born from a smither .... and when i thought the game was challenging i made my first 2h, cuz even if you opt for the 2h race you still start with SnBoard, and tried to sell it.... 750 gold for like 150 in mats hu3 hu3 hu3 Then i started looking at "guides" and you don't need a guide to get rich it is just broken, still is and kinda makes the game way too ez.
@@rickkybobby8118 yeah the opt in beta version. "Stable" version had a massive memory leak for me. That would max out the 32GB of RAM on my system so I went to the beta which didn't have that problem.
Im wondering was i the only one who gave javelins to a party to sell because that got me like 14 million before they patched that, im assuming if they patched it i wasnt the only one lol
1:22 So does this work WITHOUT mods?! Yeah that's right, I'm crazy and play this game without mods, better still though for the most part I still have fun, that is until my kingdom isn't at war with anyone and/or my army is expensive or I have a lot of border cities and castles that I need to protect when we DO go to war so garrison costs are high!
I'm about to completely overhaul the Smithing guide as this is quite out of date now - I will make sure I include this so other people know about it!! Any particular attributes/parts you like to focus on when making them? ❤
@@DomsRoundtable Nothing particular. I used iron and the highest tier parts and get about 6k per part. I am already and 250k after about 30 mins of doing the polearms. I think what efficient is that they only require 1 coal 1 hardwood and iron. 3 parts for about 6k per. I also hired a smith though so I was already at lvl 60 smith for him. I only leveled my guy to be efficient at making 3 coal from 2 wood.
It's an awesome guide. I followed your previous one and still worked recently but now I have too much money and kinda lost interest of the playthrough :s Amazing guide nonetheless. Apart from difficulty, I think it's the amount of ressources it requires (for the blade) that has the most influence in the resell value. I tried 2 similar blades of the same tier (Tier 4) the one requiring 4 fine steel instead of 3 would sell 3 or 4 times as much so it was better to get the most expensive blade and craft fewer swords and than multiple requiring less materials.
From what im seeing on my end, it seems imperial throwing knives are better than xiphos. Its cheaper by like 100 and gives 3 iron instead of 2. Oooo, 5 swords in and I get a 20k one. And to think I spent a whole irl day as a trader to only get to this much.
I actually stream almost every single day over on Twitch, and we're always doing Bannerlord Campaign's over there 😀 We have a full permadeath/realism playthrough on this channel with roughly 50~ parts which you can watch, and will be uploading another one soon 😁
@@swopnilpaudel2759 Gladly! It's 19:00 - 23:00 CET every single day apart from Monday & Friday (they're the days I take off streaming to focus on TH-cam)
Dear Domlastic, it only works if you are lucky enough to unlock a two handed grip. Not sure how many of the 140 grips are two handed. I found kinda zero chance of scoring one on multiple tries. Any of you real people found this to be true?
The tribal daggers have replaced my love for pugios because you get all the same steels(one of the two gives an extra iron) but you can find the daggers in every city and they restock faster too
Blacksmithing is basically cheating in this game. Even on realistic difficulty, there is no challenge if you blacksmith. If you want to smith your own custom weapons but actually play the game as well I suggest using only your companions to smith and only refining weapons you make (never selling them).
No smithing (excluding making a custom weapon) is exactly how I play in all of the playthroughs we do over on Twitch actually 😀 I just like to make these guides so if people want an easier time, and want to skip all the grinding, they can
@@DomsRoundtable thats basically a no U statement, it is kinda cheating, to get 25k from looting youd need a lot of work and risk, i think the swords should cap their price at about 1 thousand, the economy is totally broken already and this is just a pure cheese strategy.
Dunno why you avoid battle with looters it gives a lot of smelt materials and money from loot and its easy to take them down with bow its good to have 2 arrow packs. Also when you can make swords worth more than 1k then its time to hire companion so you can boost much more your smith work.
Because when you've put 0 points in any combat skill (including an old sumpter horse with 0 riding so you can't even outrun looters) & you're naked with basic starting equipment on Bannerlord difficulty, 1 stray Pebble will insta-kill you. And when making a guide like this for people who may not be extremely savvy with combat, it's not worth asking them to take the risk, best to play it safe and have a more reliable guide.
@@DomsRoundtable thats understandable but im always putting all my skill into smith and its still preety easy to deal with looters especially that a group of around 15looters will run away after 5-7kills
@@vorwi1116 not everyone will be as good at you at video games, it would be inconsiderate of me to focus a portion of the guide around skill based combat, when this aspect can be removed and therefore be much more accessible to people who aren't as skilled as you

how do you know what weapon gives which ressource? Especially fine steel. I am trying to find that out for some time now..also..subbed. nice vids mate
ive seen the pugio gives the fine steel for cheap money. 9:53 min
Should let people know when beginning specially for ps4 that sometimes the towns won’t have what you need to make the swords
I wish youtube had slow motion in the videos.
It does
Does this still work on the latest patch?
Superb tips. Thanks
Pugio is still the best.. but the new throwing knives are also great for smelting 👍
my one/two handed swords are selling about 10k more than the 2 handed swords i make currently, i've got a couple tier 3 handles that are both 1 and 2 handed, and they're going for around 25-30k compared to the 2handed only handels which are only at tier 2 - I'm not getting any luck for higher tier 2 hander only handles XD I'm almost at 100 smithing lmao
Did the pugio quit giving fine steel bars when smelting?
and now with 1.6.4 its the direct opposite: for maximum profit you need the handles which can be toggled between 1handed and 2handed... seems like Taleworlds cant decide ^^
I made an mistake and did not activate steel maker 1 so its missing in my list and hinders me to make fine steel
Without smelting steel weapons like pugios I can not make it myself. I am at level 143 and hope at end I canake it but not sure it's my first week in game
what else gives you normal steel? i have lots of fine but cant figure out how to get steel. thanks for the help
throwing daggers give like 3 steel. The cheaper ones. The ones that cost about 500 are slightly better than the pugio, as of 1.5.10
Well my problem now is that I forge a 100k denars worth weapon but, there's no town that have that amount of money so, I sell it to take all of their money and they'll like owe me on the next one..
Thanks, this worked, just got 100 k qucik. You cant really sell a 70 k sword, only maybe for 40k at a town. But my struggle is that I cant get enough steel, or I can only buy swords at the empire which gonna give me steel I guess...
2:36 ..... 13:07 yeahhh how can i trust you now. (look at the first smithing skill)
How did you start in Marunath?
Well, my sword now sells for 100k+ and I cant find a city to sell it to, even if I buy out all the weapons.
Which version are you using?
thank u sir I can feed my sheep in peace now
My blade , pomm and chalice is locked when I try this, what do I do?
Just got the game and started it never saw any guides, and i'm role playing as some1 who smithied and was born from a smither .... and when i thought the game was challenging i made my first 2h, cuz even if you opt for the 2h race you still start with SnBoard, and tried to sell it.... 750 gold for like 150 in mats hu3 hu3 hu3
Then i started looking at "guides" and you don't need a guide to get rich it is just broken, still is and kinda makes the game way too ez.
it's not working for e1.61 as far as i can tell , i think they patched it
Javelins can't even be sold outright, you have to buy stuff to offset the price of the javelins.
They nerfed the price down so they only sell for 19 thousand tops now
@@noblej7897 nope. Still selling for 150k
@@rickkybobby8118 my 1.5.10 javelins are only selling for 18-20k when they were selling for over 100k before the beta
@@noblej7897 is this a new opt in beta? I'm just on the normal public version and still 150k for javelins and high diff+high cut two handed swords.
Is the Harpoon javelin still works?
Which version is this? Is this 1.5.10 beta?
Does this only work if you have 3 smithing at the beggining of the game or can you do it late game? Really confused.
Whenever you want mate. Skils just make it faster
Get a shit ton of steel, and make 2 handed polearms. I bankrupt towns with those!!
@@DomsRoundtable it’s also so RNG because another recent play-through and pole-arms weren’t giving me shit lmao.
Bro i need help how your towns have duble the money the towns in my game have 25000 max can you plz help me and tell me how to fix it?
wait javelins where more efectiv? I always has sword which where worth 22457-34575
Javelins out. Two handed swords in. Got it.
I had like 20 javelins worth over 100,000 denars each, now (after update) they r worth 10,000 each 😪 still good but not as OP 🤣
It's an awesome guide. I followed your previous one and still worked recently but now I have too much money and kinda lost interest of the playthrough :s
Amazing guide nonetheless.
Apart from difficulty, I think it's the amount of ressources it requires (for the blade) that has the most influence in the resell value. I tried 2 similar blades of the same tier (Tier 4) the one requiring 4 fine steel instead of 3 would sell 3 or 4 times as much so it was better to get the most expensive blade and craft fewer swords and than multiple requiring less materials.
in the HERE WE GO!! part i was able to make a sword for 13K
From what im seeing on my end, it seems imperial throwing knives are better than xiphos. Its cheaper by like 100 and gives 3 iron instead of 2.
Oooo, 5 swords in and I get a 20k one. And to think I spent a whole irl day as a trader to only get to this much.
Hi, somehow I made a two handed polearm that worth like 110k denars, is there any town or someone who can afford it? I'm having trouble finding one.
Talk to a wealthy lord on the campaign map and sell it to them
hey can you start ur own campaign of bannerlord it would be awesome to watch the series, hope u do so
I actually stream almost every single day over on Twitch, and we're always doing Bannerlord Campaign's over there 😀
We have a full permadeath/realism playthrough on this channel with roughly 50~ parts which you can watch, and will be uploading another one soon 😁
@domtastic gaming
can you tell me the time of stream, pls
@@swopnilpaudel2759 Gladly! It's 19:00 - 23:00 CET every single day apart from Monday & Friday (they're the days I take off streaming to focus on TH-cam)
Is this still working now?
And what it you chose your companions to auto skill? 😑
They patched the hell out of this…
love ya man!
Awesome 👍
cause not every body know it.
you can level up your char up to level 33+ with smithing. if it gets red just KEEP ON SMITHING
Stilul good this tutorial for this time?
Mount and Blade 2 Bannerlord smithing simulator
I have sub.. but only cause you said im beautyfull
Dear Domlastic, it only works if you are lucky enough to unlock a two handed grip.
Not sure how many of the 140 grips are two handed. I found kinda zero chance of scoring one on multiple tries.
Any of you real people found this to be true?
You always start with at least 1 two handed grip unlocked
No, I got it. Thanks for another great guide.
you can make two handed swords worth over 150k, if they have 160 or higher cut dmg and a high reach
Thanks!
THROWING KNIVES
You deserve a sub
They can easily balance smithing by adding a chance to fail when forging a weapon.
i have a pugio fetish
I think we all do 😂
The tribal daggers have replaced my love for pugios because you get all the same steels(one of the two gives an extra iron) but you can find the daggers in every city and they restock faster too
@@jacobcurliss9687 Noted! Thanks
Blacksmithing is basically cheating in this game. Even on realistic difficulty, there is no challenge if you blacksmith.
If you want to smith your own custom weapons but actually play the game as well I suggest using only your companions to smith and only refining weapons you make (never selling them).
No smithing (excluding making a custom weapon) is exactly how I play in all of the playthroughs we do over on Twitch actually 😀
I just like to make these guides so if people want an easier time, and want to skip all the grinding, they can
@@DomsRoundtable thats basically a no U statement, it is kinda cheating, to get 25k from looting youd need a lot of work and risk, i think the swords should cap their price at about 1 thousand, the economy is totally broken already and this is just a pure cheese strategy.
@@vorwi1116 not everyone will be as good at you at video games, it would be inconsiderate of me to focus a portion of the guide around skill based combat, when this aspect can be removed and therefore be much more accessible to people who aren't as skilled as you
@@DomsRoundtable yea well my point is that you didnt even mention that this kind of tactic could be useful for some players.
Actually, any weapon would work but javelin still is the highest selling price weapon, at 106666. I'm the type that don't want to waste more resources to just sell a weapon for 5k. I want to max the city coffers for only one iron ore, hard wood, and one other ore.
The price is nerfed now. It won't even sell for 20k now
@@noblej7897 still 106666 is more than we needed no city carries more than that
@@xt3916 and I am saying the current version doesn't let them get that valuable
@@noblej7897 I know that and I'm saying its still a lot. What city have more than $106666?
tl;dw make high difficulty 2handed swords.
Still works
