@61 Cygni male spiders usually have bigger pedipalps than females, but both have them. In some species the pedipalps of the males are highly specialized, making it easy to know the sex and species at a glance. But all spiders use their pedipalps to hold food, clean themselves and sometimes to interact with their environment- so it’s important for both males and females to have them! It’s an understandable assumption tho, as spider pedipalps are most often mentioned when it comes to sexing males.
I've worked with the voice actor who did the AI in this on several of my own projects. Given the right direction and decent writing he does excellent work, two areas this game seemed to be somewhat lacking in.
Yeah, there were some interesting bits in the development. The jokes were all translated from Russian, and they had to be compressed to fit in allotted time. Rather than tighten the jokes, they asked me to read 150% faster. That being said, I'm childish enough to have enjoyed the humor throughout most of the game. The gameplay definitely changed substantially for the last few chapters, and while the story and gags were interesting, it was definitely padded for gameplay.

I would have been sure it was Phil Hartman if he hadn't tragically passed a couple of decades ago. I've worked with a lot of VAs and honestly, sterling work. Kept me going through the last couple of clunky ass chapters backtracking endlessly through conveniently placed resources to build some crap!
About same. Absolutely no story (maybe there is and I just unconsciously ignored it outright because of the 'humor'), and the gameplay gets so boring so quickly. With no ocean surface to be able to breath again, you always go as far as you can go, and then backtrack to starting point. The beauty in subnautica was that you could go to every location multiple times and always discover something new because you could go deeper. In breathedge you effectively go to every location twice (aside from the backtracking where you have to pass some multiple times). Once to discover it, and a second time with the right equipment. There are just no deep layers of interconnecting gameplay, and the space is so dead and empty that it's not even fun to look at for more than a couple seconds in the beginning.
I got to the point where i needed lead to get by radiation and the helmet got covered in red paint which covered the entire screen then i dropped it. I really wanted to love it too
Yeah I had been excited for it like a couple years ago when it first hit early access state, a survival crafting game in space that is influenced by subnautica? Hell yeah!!! But now I dropped it off my wishlist, everything I've read about it sounds like they took all the bits that made subnautica really great out, and then the ridiculously fast tool degradation just does not sound fun.
Deep sea > Space, at least as a setting for a compelling game. There is fuck all interesting stuff in space itself apart from planets, but the ocean is full of cool shit

The thing about Subnautica is that you don't craft things with your scrotum. You use a magical nano-tech table that does all the hard parts if you feed it the resources it wants. The main magical thing you do without magical nano-tech is eat raw alien fish without immediately dying of a radically incompatible biology.
Subnautica gave us an ocean-based survival craft-em-up. Breathedge gave us space-based survival craft-em-up. Now we need a cyberpunk game to give us a TH-cam comment section survival craft-em-up.
@@wilfchapman-gandy8120 the mechanics are very clever and the depth is there, but it's really hard to get into at the start and the menus and inventory screens etc. Are just the worst, so over complicated but also completely necessary to actually doing anything
Ah, yes, Space Engineers... What an interesting case study of bloatware and how-not-to-do-early-access that was. Marek managed put his finger so deep down his arse that he was able to pull out 'em cheerios.
Yeah space engineers is one of those games where you see a cool video of people doing some super awesome stuff in a big ol sandbox and you think "hey that's neat". And then you realize that the 20minute clip you saw skipped over the 25 hours spent in horrid user interfaces using a none-too friendly pseudo node based scripting language to try and sync up the ships cargo doors opening with the drill extending, and then you further realize that the actual single player experience is utter trash because there is no real AI or NPC anything around and those things they were fighting were something they had to pre-script in or were other players and there isn't anything really to do in this big sandbox, even playing with other people just comes down to: "Hey let's build some stuff together!" "Ok now what?" .... "Shoot each other I guess??"
Space Engineers is the skeleton of an incredible game: all the core pieces are there but no substance to round it out. I'd say it might get better one day but the devs idea of a serious update seems to be "there are footprints now!" so I'm not holding my breath.
Their college room mates told them they were hilarious. That's why. Like the guy who goes on talent TV shows because literally everyone and his mom told him he was talented. But they suck.

I love being a fan of classic British comedy show Bottom and its associated stage shows, so I can see how many lines Yahtzee rips off verbatim since the majority of the internet won't get it. But always know that I see you there, Yahtzee. Like an dog on an skateboard.
I found it weird that Yahtzee of all people would complain about someone talking too fast. But then I checked out some gameplay. That AI talks too fast!
You ever play Farcry 2? It sounds like all the voice actors are being payed by the word and charged for oxygen - "heyheywhatsthatiheardanoisemaybeishouldcheckitoutnoibetitsnothing"
@@SilverMe2004 No, it's completely intentional. The AI is "parodying" the shit at the end of TV commercials, like all the horrendous side effects that come with medications. More than once during my short playtime I would achieve something important then millisectonds later something would doink off my helmet or otherwise break my concentration for a beat and I'd be completely lost on what to *actually* do next (as the three words they give you as an objective name are usually just a "joke" related to the action as well) because I'd missed so much of the narration already.
Thank you Yahtzee for teaching me new substitutes for vulgarities that are safe for work! Your books were very helpful for that. And they're really cool
In Subnautica, your tools never break but you have to supply them with energy from batteries. Each tool needs its own battery and you can charge them at your base. This kind of system is *infinitely* better than a durability system in which your tools vanishes into the fucking ether. And you have to go make new ones because they can’t even last a *day.*
Surprisingly, Yahtzee and SkillUp both agree on what makes Breathedge unsufferable right now. If the devs are smart, they'll take the cue and try to address the issues... ya'know, like how SUBNAUTICA did. *wink wink*
I played through this whole game in about 12 hours. The comedy got SO tedious near the end. The devs were also VERY sure they were going to offend someone and seemed giddy at the prospect but the only real offense they committed was leaving me bored and annoyed.
I think it would've worked if the game was shorter, of if the humor was dispensed more sparingly, but as it currently is, it just feels like a stand-up routine that goes on for way too long. I can picture it so vividly - the awkward tension in the room, the droplets of sweat on the comedian's forehead as the audience laughs less and less enthusiastically, the desperate attempts to continue the show by rehashing the same old material hoping to get at least one more genuine chuckle out of the crowd before calling it a night, everything. Except I was the only audience, and the comedian wasn't allowed to pack it up and go home until I finished the game.
The script of this episode was quite amazing. Not that it is ever bad. Maybe all that time you spent in space doing barely anything interesting for 15-20 hours was finally worth it in the end... for us.
I saw 20 mins of this game on a stream and it was enough to want to gouge the game's vocal cords out. Nothing more insufferable than 'oh look we're going to eye-rollingly mock these cliches but then do them anyway'. Bonus points for another indie with bad writing desperately wearing the 'I want to be Portal' hat.
Damn, the biggest annoyance for Xbox controller players, is: they put interaction on the B key 🤬🤯 B key is usually for cancel/exit! I don’t know how often I performed an action, when I actually wanted to to exit a menu 😤
In some places at least; doesn't Mars still have nuts in some regions? Edit trivia: American Mars bars had almonds until 2002, and briefly afterward under the name "Snickers Almond"
And disapointgly it's not. Subnautica makes the tedious tasks of the begining easy later on, so you feel progress. Oxygen for exemple becomes a non issue and your subs allow you to carry everything on the go. Not this game, oh no, enjoy doing the same gameplay loop 300 times. I feel it would be so much better if tools didn't break.
Why couldn't she be the other type of space monster, with the lady parts on top and the spider part on the bottom? ...damn, my Futurama reference just turned into Dark Souls.
Actually it's pronounced breath-arj Fourth wall breaks are good sometimes. You have to either keep them as a funny but more importantly occasional thing or have them have a plot function. If you have neither then they just feel pointless, like what seems to be the case with this game.
I watched a video showing off this game and I lost all interest in playing it when the game said "Craft the Crap the developers put in" That is fourth wall humor I cannot stand. That's them saying "Ooh look at us we're meta and fourth wall breaking so we're funny!"
This is one thing in games that infuriates me, like when the game goes "Oh boy looks like you'll have to do a tedious fetch quest, we all hate those don't we fellow gamers." but then you actually still have to do the tedious fetch quest, just because you pointed it out doesn't make it okay to put in there.
@@Mobysimo Magicka does something like that, you encounter someone with a large golden glowing questionmark on their head but they don't have a quest for you, and they don't know anything about killing rats or something.
I tried to play the game. But as fun a d interesting Subnautica was, at least you didn't have to float 10 mins in the air to go wack a space rock then back 10 mins to your ship. And the fact the progression of items is so slow, and that most of the items you need are in very specific locations makes it more of a struggle than a fun experience
A rule of thumb for writers considering lampshading something: it may (or may not) be funny, but it *will* confirm that you know it’s ridiculous/annoying and included it anyway. Use it smartly, not snarkily.
Oh shit, Yahtzee's heard of Valheim and might even have played it! Wow. My dad and I played that together in the fallow period between us finishing Far Cry: New Dawn and Far Cry 6 coming out (it didn't really fill the void). It looked a bit small time to us, so I'm surprised that it was on Yahtzee's radar at all. It's a small gaming world.
I finally played this as it was on sale, and Yahtzee's (once again) 100% dead on. However the "inappreciable" line he mentions is easily found. It's the first time you audibly say "TL;DR." For me that was just over 3 hours in about some cows.
Its interesting that Yahtzee liked the humor in the first few hours of the game. Because I watched 15 minutes of this game and I found the humor so overbearing and obnoxious that I couldn't continue.
It should have been spread here and there for maximum effect, but they choose to put everywhere! They even have a "gum" item, that shuts narrator voice for an hour...
What about a solo survival style space game where you're not actually stranded, you get a pickup in a year, but can you stretch your resources that far? Harvest moon, but instead of making out with the bartender you grow potatoes or die.

I only lasted an hour before refunding it and going back to Subnautica... Glad to hear it, in fact, did not get better later.

This is the most I've ever agreed with Yahtzee about a game. The only difference is I got annoyed with the smug metahumor MUCH faster.

It's like subnautica but in space is literally a quote on there steam page.
And disapointgly it's not. Subnautica makes the tedious tasks of the begining easy later on, so you feel progress.
Oxygen for exemple becomes a non issue and your subs allow you to carry everything on the go.
Not this game, oh no, enjoy doing the same gameplay loop 300 times.
I feel it would be so much better if tools didn't break.

Fourth wall breaks are good sometimes. You have to either keep them as a funny but more importantly occasional thing or have them have a plot function. If you have neither then they just feel pointless, like what seems to be the case with this game.
I watched a video showing off this game and I lost all interest in playing it when the game said "Craft the Crap the developers put in"
That is fourth wall humor I cannot stand. That's them saying "Ooh look at us we're meta and fourth wall breaking so we're funny!"
This is one thing in games that infuriates me, like when the game goes "Oh boy looks like you'll have to do a tedious fetch quest, we all hate those don't we fellow gamers." but then you actually still have to do the tedious fetch quest, just because you pointed it out doesn't make it okay to put in there.

@@Mobysimo Magicka does something like that, you encounter someone with a large golden glowing questionmark on their head but they don't have a quest for you, and they don't know anything about killing rats or something.
It would have been amazing if it was the last time you had to craft a random item to progress the story.

I tried to play the game.
But as fun a d interesting Subnautica was, at least you didn't have to float 10 mins in the air to go wack a space rock then back 10 mins to your ship.
And the fact the progression of items is so slow, and that most of the items you need are in very specific locations makes it more of a struggle than a fun experience

Oh shit, Yahtzee's heard of Valheim and might even have played it! Wow. My dad and I played that together in the fallow period between us finishing Far Cry: New Dawn and Far Cry 6 coming out (it didn't really fill the void). It looked a bit small time to us, so I'm surprised that it was on Yahtzee's radar at all. It's a small gaming world.

I finally played this as it was on sale, and Yahtzee's (once again) 100% dead on.
However the "inappreciable" line he mentions is easily found. It's the first time you audibly say "TL;DR." For me that was just over 3 hours in about some cows.

Its interesting that Yahtzee liked the humor in the first few hours of the game. Because I watched 15 minutes of this game and I found the humor so overbearing and obnoxious that I couldn't continue.
It should have been spread here and there for maximum effect, but they choose to put everywhere! They even have a "gum" item, that shuts narrator voice for an hour...
