Hey Mike, I also use the Superior fit sleeves for my slabs. A little trick for you, when you know your sleeving a bunch of slabs have a piece of paper towel by you. Put the little tab piece on the paper towel. It absorbs the plastics static. Then you just crumble up the paper towel and throw away. Nice and easy.
Hi Mike, cool video. I have been handwriting my Nolan Ryan cards in a notebook. I'm hoping it keeps me from buying doubles. Thank you for sharing what you do.
This is great. Already doing spreadsheets but this gave me some new ideas. Thank you. If you’re ever looking for video ideas, a VCP overview would be cool.
@@BaseballCollector I know it can be used to find sales history but that’s about it. Maybe some of the other features they offer. Also maybe where they get their sales data from.
Hi Mike. Great process for keeping track of your stuff. I currently have a black book that I track everything I buy, but I should also put it into a spreadsheet. I also immediately put all my slabs in a superior fit sleeve also. Talk soon my friend.
Hey Mike, I heard a tip a while back that works really good for those static cling plastic that comes off. You put a piece of tape on your desk and stick it to it. Then it stays on the tape and is neatly out of your way. Hope that helps if you needed an idea. Hopefully I am not repeating someone else here.
Tell us about the process of putting it into the beast. For me, that is best part. My football HOF master set is sorted by player, so typically linger looking at all the other cards of the player as i put away the newbie. Otherwise, i may not look at them again. 😮
I take those little plastic tabs or what ever you call them and crinkle or roll them up into a ball with my two fingers, gets rid of the static so they can get tossed out. Thanks for sharing your mad mad method of collecting and organization!!!
Mike I enjoy your work. I have been thinking about something in the hobby. Who and how do we as a hobby decide who gets hobby love? I watch a good bit of hobby content and I don’t remember the name Corey Seager mentioned one time. Two time World Series MVP and I think has a shot at the HOF. Any thoughts?
I think there are a lot of guys like Seager who are beloved on a local level and just don't get the national hobby attention they might deserve. I think Seager is totally on track for the HOF
To help with the static cling, bunch the plastic pieces into little balls in your fingers. Much easier to drop after that. Also, have you considered using Google Drive sheets for your spreadsheets. That way it's on the cloud, and available online via any computer you log in to. You probably use XLS for your work, so I'm curious as to upsides/downsides towards the switch.
An incredibly tedious and time-consuming process... but an ESSENTIAL process! Fewer better ways of maintaining a truly great collection, whilst keeping track of gaps in the collection, so that it can grow towards 'completion' (is a collection ever truly 'complete'?). As our collections will outlive us, as you rightly point out, you are making the process for your partner/heirs that much easier. You only have to do this once for each card you add, then it's done. Also, in recording it in the way you do, you're motivating yourself towards filling gaps in your collection. I'd wager that most collectors just shove their items in a folder/box and keep a mental note of where it is, and what they've got. As an autograph collector, I keep manual records of each autograph I have get, when, where, and (if necessary) how much, for many years now. I can't say that I enjoy the process of coming back from a blazing hot day and recording the information, but if I don't do it when I get back, then I probably never will. There's so much more I could be doing to improve my records, but it's a work in process. As ever, thank you for your openness and honesty. Love it, Mike! Truly essential content for any serious collector. Keep up the great work, and would be great to show more of this content. 👍
Thanks for sharing your in processing Mike. This is where I fell at collecting the most, I picked up a few things I’m going to start doing. Thank you my friend.
Mike, my favorite videos of yours are the ones where I get to learn something. This was a great topic. I really enjoyed the spreadsheet of the four decade set. You're so close and I bet all those 80s cards are cards that are hard to find graded. Are any of those 50s or 60s cards low lying fruit? Thanks for sharing!
This was a great video! I feel like I'm looking in the mirror bc I have a very similar process haha! I am convinced us collectors just use this as a form of therapy from everyday life. Definitely attempting to bring some type of order from chaos.
One of my favorite (weirdest?) things to do when a big card arrives in the mail is to wait to open the box. Sometimes even 2-3 days. Delayed gratification. Because once I’ve got it in my hands, the hunt is over. And it all begins again.
lol 😅!! Mike your videos are great!! I’m literally watching this video right now as I’m sorting new cards in the mail, and inspecting them for grading!! Go Redlegs!! I’😊
I'm a simple man. For cataloging my Dick Perez items ( post cards and DKs) I just hand write them in a notebook. I know it's not fancy but if your computer poops the bed I still have a copy
Fellow 'simple man' here. I do the exact same with my autographs. I am trying to also keep a digital copy (which is so much easier to track, as you simply can input a keyword in to find your item), but I will always keep my manual copy going, and I'll never store information in the 'cloud'.
You might benefit from learning how to use conditional formatting in Excel. It will auto highlight and do any type of formatting based on your formula.
Impressive detail to your collection but truthfully when we all die with our collections in a box or a filled up room.....they represent cash for the living and will probably be sold rather abruptly and not thought about with such detail. Enjoy what you do and keep collecting and posting

You are my hero!!
I use a little piece of painters tape if I'm sleeving like 5+ things at once. Stick it to that and you don't have to worry about it flying away

All good to repeat good ideas. I do think I have heard that one too, but don't know why I don't it. LOL
This is a terrific system....I need to get much more organized even though I don't build random sets.
Thanks Randy. I don't really think my sets are random. LOL
@BaseballCollector agreed poor choice of words. What I meant was I don't build custom sets...just complete yearly releases.
Tell us about the process of putting it into the beast. For me, that is best part. My football HOF master set is sorted by player, so typically linger looking at all the other cards of the player as i put away the newbie. Otherwise, i may not look at them again. 😮
Mine are organized by year, the set alphabetically, and then by card number.

I did not Randy.
Great job Mike!

Right on!
Great video! Love those Yazes.
Also, seeing that you have Autosave turned off on your spreadsheet makes me very nervous!

Thanks Rick. At this point it is really expensive cards or cards that are rarely graded because, quite frankly, they are not worth grading.
Hey Mike....nice to see that I'm not the only maniac who does all of this stuff!!!
You are not alone sir!!
Beautiful process.
Thank you!
I have a very similar process, plus updating my website haha- so I totally get this video!!
I don't know how I feel about having a website. I need to think about that.
Dang Mike what a process. Definitely makes me want to step up my process a little bit
It is just what I need to do.
Great video Mike. We are very very similar in our methods 👊👊
You seem to love the process as much as I do. Something really satisfying when you finally get to put the card in its place. ❤️
So true Dylan. It is quite satisfying.

I gotta start making lists of the cards I have of the guys I collect because I keep buying ones that I already have
That would be a smart idea.

Actually, my wife knows better. She has a "to do" list is something happens to me in order to liquidate my collection properly.
Tons of cards in the beast
Hey Mike! Curious, do you need a PSA membership in order to utilize the set registry?
You do not.
@@LetsStormTheTeaCupRide thanks!
How would someone with a large vintage collection get in touch with you?
