I’ve sold this book twice. 😅 and I bought it for a third time recently. I realized it’s my favorite Batman story and I’m not going to sell it anymore lol
This is my favourite Batman series ever and one of my favourite omnibuses. It reminds me of everything I was going through at the time (not all of it good) and it truly saved me. I could not stand the character of Damian, I hated him when I started the series and by the end I loved him. The silent issue had me in tears being a father myself. Peter Tomasi is the most underrated writer in comics today.
This run is so good man. It's just a shame that, like many of Tomasi's/Gleason's other books, it keeps getting bombarded with outside story changes that they have to react to (GLC had this problem too) to the point where it felt more like a supplementary run to more important stories. But it's oftentimes the highlight of these stories.
What other runs had that happen to them? All I know is the Superman run, but I only know it got cut short by the 'Bendis is Coming' stuff. I know Tomasi also worked on Superman/Wonderwoman I think...do wonder if that'll ever be collected, but did that get hit with outside story changes at the time? 🤔
@@Krypton_Ken OH! Do you mean like during this omni? I realize Grayson prolly happened around this time...which means he faked his death and all....huh, yeah that'd be a doozy to deal with..
@@Krypton_Ken Oh wow, I didn't even know he had a Nightwing run. Was it good? [also Batman RIP is when he's already 'dead' but back in time, and Grayson has taken the cowl, right?? or is that something else?]
I’ve been reading this, and I love it. There’s so much heart in it. Love how Damian is developed in this run. I love Bruce’s personality. This omni made me order Tomasi’s Superman omni.
@Ryan Wilson I think it's just controversial since other characters barely have any Omni's compared to Batman's over 20. Not even the other two of the Trinity seem to have close to the amount they put into Batman, let alone side characters people would love to see collected too, from Captain Marvel/Shazam, to Blue Beetle, or so on. Superman especially has a painfully low amount of post-crisis omni's. Besides Event omni's, or team omni's like JLA or JSA, etc, or specific heavy-hitter writer runs, like Geoff Johns and Morrison, it just seems DC's release schedule is Batman all the way down. or reprints, which is nice still. But still...hope the Man of Steel omnibus will get another chance at life.
@Ryan Wilson It does, absolutely. I'm not knocking them for it, it's a solid business strategy for sure, but seeing DC only cater to the fans of one of their characters, while holding back from doing the same for an entire *universe* of other ones, is definitely a sad state of affairs in my book. It'd be like if Marvel only released Spider-Man omni's and a few Avengers ones maybe. People probably would say, 'that's great and all, Spider-Man's fantastic, spectacular even...but I sure wish they collected some X-men in omni form.' That, and if you compare it to the Collected Editions office of Marvel, who directly take fan requests for omni's into account, and even team up with people like Omar here, outright changing the mappings of their books even, due to fan response, just to make the best omni the fans want.... [and will buy] It just makes DC's collected-editions office look that much worse, or atleast, lacking. It doesn't help DC's office has already got much worse PR on the fan-side of things, with tons of omnibus cancellations, moving release dates constantly, and the whole Compendiums-replacing-omni's thing... It's either an office that desperately needs more budget, isn't using it's properties to their full potential, or is just ouright mismanaged.. But idk, that last part's just speculation really.😅
Oh my god, can there be a DC vídeo without someone complaining about DC’s lack of this or lack of that, or some PR BS no one cares about. Just enjoy what they release and stop complaining about what they don’t.
It’s sad because DC has arguably better stories but they don’t take advantage of that. At least it’s much easier to collect DC omnis since there’s less of them out there.
I ended up picking this up. I will put on the shelf with the Superman omnibus. My shelves are all over the place. I have 2 Ed Brubaker shelves, but his Captain America omnis are on with the Marvel books. I have a Garth Ennis shelf with Hellblazer, Preacher and the Boys. I can’t wait for more DC omnis.
This was an excellent overview! I've read Morrison's run, and loved it, I was never sure about getting this omni when it was available, because I thought it would be too much double dipping. U sold me Uncle Omar. The Mask Of Zorro screening got me. I have one on the way. Thank u for sharing your knowledge of this thing, we all love and enjoy. It's highly appreciated.
I love this run so much. Is probably my second favorite Batman run of all time, the first one would be Denny O'Neal and Neal Adams or Steve Englehart. The dynamic between father and son here is fantastic, the story is amazing, and made me care a lot more for Damian, he is amazing. And Peter Tomasi gets right Batman, he really gets Batman perfectly.
Nice one Omar! Having timestamps for spoilers is great specially for new readers who's starting to get into comics and doesn't want any spoilers:) More power and Godbless!
I have the original hardcovers of this which, ironically, I have never actually read. Guess I will have to crack them open! BTW, I organize my shelves alphabetically by character, then chronologically within each character.
Peter Tommasi’s Batman and Robin was my favorite bat title of the new 52. I actually still have my single issues as well as the original new 52 hardcovers. I had passed on this omnibus the first time around but decided to get this reprint.
I don't understand why stories aren't sold in order. You have to stop reading mid book, to go to another book and read mid way in, just to go back to the original book to continue on. Are there any books where the story is complete and in order?
This run is great and (to me) defined Damian as Robin. Gonna get this omni. Also, hope we get a second printing of the Superman Rebirth by Tomasi and Gleason omnibus in the future.
Just finished reading this yesterday and didn't love it. Am currently reading the Superman run too, and Tomasi's tone is a much better fit there then with Batman. This was really unmemorable save for the silent issue. *SPOILERS* This really ran out of steam towards the end and felt like it was taking a "throw it to the wall and see what sticks" approach. Batman's "I won't bring him back, yes I will" shift was whiplash inducing, and I laughed when Glorious Godfrey showed up in the middle of a battle with Ra's, bat assassins, and yetis. It was ridiculous, and not in a good way, for me.
@@NearMintCondition Man, Zero Year was the one that got me to give up completely on Snyder's run. I don't even know if it was supposed to be in the same continuity as Year One (which is almost sacred to me), but it messed too much with Batman's beginnings for me.

I bought this early last year on ebay, cost me $260 Aus & I swore i'd never pay that amount again even though i loved this omni. Fast forward 1 year and the new printing retails for $250 here in Australia 🤣
@@mitch-TO Yes most Omni's here were between $125 & $150 but have now increased to roughly $210/$250 although you can still find a bargain if you continually look.
This story was so good and going so strong until it was derailed by a certain event in another Batman comic book run. Damn shame. Still enjoyed it overall.
Holy shit this looks awesome. I’m finally and currently reading the Green Lantern by Geoff Johns Omnibus’ but after I’m finished with that amazing run I’m gonna get this Omnibus. I’m not sure if I should read Batman by Grant Morrison before I get this?
Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve found that Morrison’s Batman didn’t age well. I was a huge fan when it was coming out (to the point of being livid when I heard some nobody named Scott Snyder would be taking over Batman in the nu52 😂). But I can hardly read it today. It’s just …….not fun.
Uhm... you said in the beginning that there ARE page numbers in the book... but as we can see later on, there aren't really. Without reading it, I would still say that my favorite ever Batman run is the Grant/Breyfogle run.... the lonely and dark Batman, this is the definition of the original character. All these to me are like, we have to do more Batman stories, but need to make it somehow different.
