I love these e39s and i appreciate how everyone is starting to really admire these cars. I own a few of them. Literally love driving these over anything new produced today.
I love my E39 530i. Bought it a year ago and I enjoy it every single day. I plan to fully restore it, luckily it's mostly asthetics (paint job, drivers leather seat, left rear curtain...). The mechanics are really good, I got no problems whatsoever. I installed an Android din2 radio and a rear cam (which is very handy with a car this big). Also got the M bumpers, just waiting for the summer to do the paint job and mount them on the car. I just love this car. No other car gives me this feeling and the smile on my face every time i turn it on :)
My grandfather has a 528 E39 and let's me drive it - it's such a desirable car, I absolutely love it. It's fast, it's quite, it's luxurious - just a perfect combination. And even if you're driving 200 kph+ on the German Autobahn it still feels controllable! Great video, I absolutely agree with everything you said. :D
I once saw an older gentleman at a gas station with an immaculate E39 540 M sport. I commented to him “beautiful car!”. His response to me - “I am not selling it”. 😄
I want to add that the armrest can be lifted and have a small compartment in the euro spec, it's quite a common retrofit from e39 enthusiast in the us. And the lower dashboard is also thicker on the us version, due to bmw thinking that us drivers didn't always wear seatbelt, you are a tall guy and would be more comfortable in an euro e39 😉 good review it's been a pleasure to watch
My first car was a 2002 530i optioned IMO in a near perfect spec. I was the 2nd owner and that car was basically perfection, a comfortable daily that looked awesome and drove even better. On my way home one day, a cougar ran in front of my car. I miss it so much especially now that it’s been gone a few years. My next car will hopefully be a e39 M5 🤞🏻
My daily driver for the last 6 years has been a 2002 530i. It currently has 171k miles, and still drives beautifully. Mine has the M-sport package, but being a North American car, that only means black window trim, sport suspension, sport seats, and the 3 spoke steering wheel. No M-sport bumpers. I replaced my wood trim with European spec satin silver aluminum trim. It looks amazing combined with the black leather. I also have an android touchscreen radio that looks like the factory navigation system. Additionally, I installed the chrome beauty rings around the dials in the gauge cluster. Those three minor upgrades make the interior feel a decade younger. I also have the 17” BBS Style 5 two piece rims. (Best wheel option for the E39 in my opinion)
Absolutely love this car. The E39, along with the E55 merc and Volvo 850 wagon, are my favorite car designs. I hope to see you cover and drive the 850 one day.
It is nearly automotive perfection. If it was rolling off the show room floor today, I'd give it an 8 speed automatic or a 6 speed manual. 3 litres is the perfect blend of fuel economy and power. Mine averages 24 mpg. It also has automatic headlights so you should put the switches all the way to the left and forget about it. I feel a bit more power ie: 250/225 would better it and 3 inches more wheelbase. Also, having the headunit/radio integrated into the dashboard is so much better than sticking on the top.
I own the pre face lifted E39 and I love the car, I can cruise the highway at 85 and the engine will love that speed and the aerodynamics of the car kick in at 85 and I actually save gas at 85.
The recording's field of view turned out very good. Some creatives have a habit of pointing the camera solely at their face, disregarding the road and the interior that surrounds the driver.
Agree complelely, the sedan is an absolutely fantastic design but maybe second to the lines and practicality 😂 of the E39 540iT (Timeless ?) M-Sport wagon.
In Australia the face lifted version of the car was basically the M5 body styling. They made the 530i indistinguishable from the M5 E39. They called it the M Sport version. That was the car that I had. And actually it was kind of hard to find anything else over there (other than M sport). But it was glorious. I think the suspension and steering were different from the regular car. All time favourite of mine. Wish I could have it back but they're almost impossible to find where I live now. Great overview though. Thanks.
Hello! M sport versions (there are 2 versions for normal models) had different shocks/springs and torsion bars. The steering rack was the same. The 2 versions are M Technik 1 and M Technik 2. The first one sits a bit higher and has a 25mm torsion bar, and the second one sits a bit lower and has 27mm torsion bar. The M Technik 2 is the most desirable one, byt sadly Sachs stopped producing the shocks, it's virtually impossible to find them new
I learned to drive in my father's 2000 E39 M5. I now own a 2017 G30 530i. The E39 and the G30 are the definitely the two best looking 5 series ever made.
Could not agree more. Design, Quality and a magic engine who nerver fails to make you fell good at any given moment of driving. Light years away from the synthetic driving experiences you get from modern Beemers.
Just bought one in spectacular condition. Almost brkoke the armrest trying to open it looking for the storage area underneath😅, but looks like the ones fitted with the telephone on top had to sacrifice the storage. It wouldn't fit much anyway. At least the telephone still works😂
Unmatched ergonomics. The nice spongy material of lower dash is soft enough to bump your knees. A modern interpretation of the e39 530i would have about 4 inches more wheelbase and a choice of six speed manual or eight speed automatic. With an integrated navigation screen, not sticking up in your face.
@@eaglerider94 bought mine almost 3 years ago. The seller's wife made him get rid of the car because it was sitting in the driveway taking up space and not being used. I bought it off Craigslist for the ridiculous and very odd price of $25.00! I figured I could make money selling it as a parts car. However, upon seeing the car, even with a flat tire and very dirty, I could see it was a steal. Had it towed home, put a battery in it, put air in the tires and it actually ran beautifully. Then I invested in tune-up, oil change and had it completely detailed. Bought a few inexpensive plastic replacement parts. No dents. No tears in the leather seats. Looks real good, runs smooth as silk and been driving it daily for nearly 3 years. I get alot of compliments from strangers, which is a plus I didn't expect! Hope you have a positive experience with your's when you get it!
Armrest doesn't have storage because this E39 was optioned with telephone from factory. E39's without telephone option have storage under it. It's shallow but it's there. Also this armrest can be extended forward
The last of the great BMWs. My 1997 528i, actually made in Germany, is a pleasure to drive despite being 26 years old and having a very sad automatic transmission. Newer BMWs are not the same. The only thing more beautiful than an E39 is (maybe) an E38.
Fact: BMW was the first brand to use DRLs like this, but It has NEVER called them “Angel Eyes” (that’s very ordinary…). Halo lights or Corona rings are a more appropriate name for them (officially used by BMW, BTW).
My brother had one of those, it was something else! I still love and remember with joy that car! I hope you don't mind but for quite sometime i had this idea for video, i never so on youtube a modernization of a CE w123 (coupe version), can you do it please ? I was hoping to not ask and maybe at some point to find out that you did it already, but unfortunately it never happened... Thanks a lot for your dedication and this type of videos that you make 😊
Just bought a 2000 540 6speed German imported and I completely love it complete “m” spec of it’s time with the interior phone, rear passenger shade slides and a lsd I believe 😮💨 gearing is just right think it’s a 3.6? Someone please correct me about the diff spec that came in the different variants!
I totally agree with you Re: Lower rpm Grunt European Horsepower v. American. I've owned 500hp American and 200hp European cars. European cars tend to be lighter thus are able to use lower HP/Torque more efficiently, in my opinion.
This video is over a year old, and yet this car is still listed for sale on their website. What's up with that? I had one of these in 06 through 07. Best car I ever owned. At 100+ mph, you would swear you were sitting still.
That car really needs to be lowered. I've got Eibach Sportline springs and Bilstein B8 shocks in my E39 528i M Sport. It sits perfectly and rides beautifully, better handling with factory ride quality.
This is when cars (and im not just talking about BMW) had balanced complete designs... now they look sort of silly... im not saying we should stay in the past but modern car design is a mess
Even though I own an e39, I have an unpopular opinion: F90 is just a better e39, e60s kind of loose the identity of the 5 series, F10 comes closer from the front, the back is not as good, but F90 is literally just a modernized e39
All those years later it still looks like an absolute beast of a car. Those wheels look super sexy as well.
im trying to find one that isnt ruined by aftermarket junk and it's a challenge

530i M-Sport 5MT here, I love these cars so damn much, currently redoing all the accessory pumps and everything on mine
This just boosts my wish for a Sreten, Doug and Bembli meeting.

Still have my 2002 530i, will never sell that car for sure :P
No grotesque front grille!
What!!!?
It’s always been beautiful! E90 has some of E39s design elements like that line coming into the tail lights
Nice review and great new format 👍 more like this please
I agree with you. That car is awesome. A wagon with the manual and a nice modern set of wheels would be 🔥
I think the E46 sedan, especially pre FL, deserves a video.
The E34 is great too. Very Bmw-ish, very german design.
A small version of the E38 7-series, "the best sedan ever made"...😉

Bmw 850 a beautiful classic too! 😜
The E39 is peak BMW - period. These cars are really coming into their own now and good ones are already hard to find. Snap this one up fast!
You're taking me down memory lane so gracefully 🤩😍

I can see why this is the most beautiful car it’s simple in style but yet beautiful in design!
The recording's field of view turned out very good. Some creatives have a habit of pointing the camera solely at their face, disregarding the road and the interior that surrounds the driver.
Love this car review format
Looks like this car is still for sale 👀. Awesome review though. You certainly know your stuff!
0-60 is a tad over 5 seconds. Owned five of this exact model. These are my unicorns

Love this car. I have 3 of them, one is a 530i M-sport in this same color.
Excellent review and all true.
bmw's golden era long live the king

BMW E-39 ❤️
Simply the best BMW ever made😍
De acuerdo mañana tendré el mio e39 530i m sport 2002, muchos detalles, no le dieron el amor suficiente.
My first car was 98 540i and it financially destroyed me back them
Really wanna get it again.😁
The E39 is the ultimate best Bmw ever made & these cars has aged so well.
Timeless design

3:45 I always get this bit of agressivness because you say Hofmeister King instead of Hofmeister Knick, just the thing understanding German.....
He says "Kink"... Which is English for "Knick"...
Amazing car i have a pre fl 523i manual and its a dream on twisty roads even on hi speads
Would love to see you do a BMW Z3

I had a 535 M sport V8 2002 and without doubt the best Beemer ever built in M sport guise , the SE looks so plain .
Love my 2002 530i.
I'm looking at a well maintained 2002 530i Automatic with only 60K miles. Lots of recent work done. What's an expected price in So. Cal?

in the us market cars the e39 was presided for the bmw in car phone

is e60 better ?
You make video for Bmw 7er E38 and BMW 5er E39 please make video for design about BMW 3er E46 Sedan please 🙏🏻🇺🇲🇬🇷
Great video! What about doing an E46 330 ci?
E46 330ci facelift would be interesting, basically the facelift the E46 M3 never had.

Old Mercs got also their proper interior smell. Anyone know what it is ? I hear it's the smell of the glue they use
It seems like two smells combine on these cars - the smell of the leather seats and the smell of the foam insulation under the carpet
I really wanna buy my own now that I saw my dad buy one for $700.
