MACHU PICCHU RUINS | Sun Gate Machu Picchu Hike and Visit to the Inca Bridge

  • Today, we are visiting the Machu Picchu Ruins. And even better, we also visited the Sun Gate at Machu Picchu, as well as the Inca Bridge - two places only a relatively small number of people even go when they visit Machu Picchu.
    We started off at Aguas Calientes with a 5:30 bus ride to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, a UNESCO Heritage Site in Peru.
    The two highlights of our visit are the Machu Picchu Sun Gate Hike, as well as the Machu Picchu Inka Bridge. These two sites are within the boundaries of the Inca sanctuary, but they require hikes that many visitors aren't willing to take in the heat.
    The Machu Picchu Inca Bridge hike follows a narrow path along a deep cliff canyon. There is not much protection from falling, so hikers have to hike extra carefully to stay on the path.
    The Sun Gate is the gateway to Machu Picchu for those hiking the Inca Trail. As hikers arrive at the Sun Gate from the Inca Trail, they see Machu Picchu from a distance. The Sun Gate view is spectacular, and the hike to Sun Gate at Machu Picchu is highly recommended.

    It is crazy how busy it is there these days. I, Alex, have actually been twice. The first time was back in 2006 and the second time was in 2008 and even between those two dates I saw an increase in people and security. The first time was really chill, hardly any big groups. But like you guys say, if you walk a little you can find your own little piece of bliss in a truly incredible place! Thanks for sharing guys!

      For sure! There are still amazing hidden places where you can find solitude in Machu Picchu, and especially around the Sacred Valley. We're so glad to stay in Cusco for a month - that gave us plenty of time to explore to the least visited places by tourists on the Valley!
      Thanks for watching!

    Machu Picchu is such an incredible place. I appreciate that you showed it from different perspectives that made it look even more beautiful. Those views were amazing. Some paths looked quite dangerous to walk on if not paying much attention to where you step while filming :-)

    Wow, just like everywhere else these days there are way too many tourists! But it's worth going no matter what. The ruins are so beautiful. I have seen a lot of photos and videos of this place but I never learned this much about it. The building process is fascinating to me too! I've had my fair share of altitude sickness and I can't imagine building this.

    Wow this is so different when I visited in 2019. We didn't have those queues, we visited around 9 in the morning I believe. We had those clouds and no queuing for taking pictures. Only a pity I couldn't do most of its walks. We hiked up Huyana Picchu and that's it.

    • @theRTWguys
      @theRTWguys  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Huayana Picchu was a completely different experience, I bet. We opted not to pay extra to hike farther out and beyond, but ended up to hike up to the Inca bridge AND the Sun Temple, which were two strenuous hikes anyway. Thanks for watching, Sven!

    • @theRTWguys
      @theRTWguys  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      While the official rule to visit Machu Picchu is to be led by a tour guide, it wasn't enforced when we were visiting in October 2019. You can definitely arrange a guide for Machu Picchu, including a tour from Cusco, but you can also hire an official guide at the gate of Machu Picchu. Hope this answers your question - enjoy your visit to Peru!

The inca bridge is quite dangerous specially if there’s a tons of tourist sand the sun gate is worth to hike, such a beautiful travel experience!

    Wow 5:00 am isn't early enough haha. You had a beautiful clear day and even though there are tons of other people, it is nice that you can avoid crowds in the photos. We have been wanting to visit Machu Picchu for so long, but I definitely wouldn't be hiking some of those trails with the kids haha. Thanks for the tips, I have a better idea now of how to approach a visit.

    Nice little hikes but you should try Montaña Machupicchu it's over 10,000ft, higher than sun gate and much better views of machu from the top.

    • @theRTWguys
      @theRTWguys  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Doing the hike to Machu Picchu is one of my life goals. That is crazy that you have to line up to take a photo, I didn't imagine that. Do you research all the facts before you film or do you have all that knowledge? Either way, super impressive. Is it the altitude that makes the hike so difficult? Loving the channel, new sub here.

    • @theRTWguys
      @theRTWguys  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Generally speaking, we love history and we couldn't help but to read and learn along the way. In many occasion, we had to look it up to learn more about the place. Peru is incredible, and without a doubt, you will enjoy your time exploring the country and the Machu Picchu hike. The Peru highland is a difficult area to explore, and if you haven't check it out, watch our Rainbow Mountain vlog (17,000 feet high/5,800m elevation). That was a struggle!
