How Is Machu Picchu In 2024? (Not What You Think)

  • Machu Picchu is a bucket list experience, but how is it now? Is it open? Can you still hike in? How do you get there from Cusco? Tickets? We investigate and want to share in this travel vlog... Check out Peru tours (and more!) here: geni.us/fzR3R ⬇ See below for more details and recommendations ⬇
There's something so special about ticking off a bucket list experience, for us, Machu Picchu Peru has always been on that list - spoiler alert, it's just as special as we hoped it would be!
As you'll hear Huber say, Machu Picchu is spiritual in a way, not just for the people of Peru, but for everyone that visits. Thankfully they've limited the visitors so it feels more intimate that I imagine it did in the past, though to be fully transparent, it still feels like A LOT of people go in at a time.
We wanted to find out about how to reach Machu Picchu from Cusco, how to buy tickets, learn more about the history and all that jazz, so hopefully we've been able to share all the info you could possibly need in this one!
These South America travels were filmed in October 2023, an amazing time of year to visit. We spent a month exploring Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Chile and these travel vlogs are to share our experience of the first time touching the continent... safe to say we loved it! Over that time we took 2 different tours with G Adventures and that saved our ass in more ways than one - stress free, safer, all the travel advice we needed, transport pre-arranged and an epic group of people to travel with. If you plan on travelling South America (or anywhere else in the world actually!) take a look here: geni.us/fzR3R Also, consider using some of our links and recommendations from the below to support the channel. Thanks!

Man I can watch your videos for hours. There´s no over the top shouting and freaking out the locals etc and just relaxing calm narration and visuals. Also it is nice to see people who are travelling comfortably and not trying to stretch a buck all the time. Been here since 30k sub and STILL excited about new content, you guys are the best!

I paused a movie I was watching when this alert appeared on my phone! I have been waiting for this for too long! So fabulous to see you guys at Machu Picchu. I love that place. I was there in 2004 and 2008. Went by myself in 2008 and was up roaming the grounds for 7 hours! Never got old. I didn't want to leave! This included climbing Huayna Picchu, the mountain behind the citadel which Dane zoomed to see people at its peak. Loved this vlog and can't wait for the next one!

Thanks for taking a pause to come hang and leave a comment!! Do you think there some kind of magic there too? It felt really special in a way, so we can understand how you spent so long there! Good on you for climbing up the big mountain too, must have been amazing views

@DanegerAndStacey I took the earliest bus at 6am and it was past 2pm when I went back down. Just hiked and explored. The view from up top was great but I actually like the view from the front of the citadel best. It was misty wet early on, but sunny and dry as it got closer to noon. I even found a spot to lie down on the grass and dozed off for a short nap! Woke up and found myself at Machu Picchu!

Machu Picchu is a magical place. But like any place it needs to be protected from over-tourism. Finding that right balance is the challenge. We have been . As we did, we came away from the experience with a new awareness of how fragile it can become. Hope you guys did too. Great Video. 🙏🙏 Harriet, Jim and Yuki

But honestly I love how you also include the local guides and interesting facts at the same time as showing us these beautiful places and your personal experience :) Also super random but I love that your videos are not overly colour corrected, as stupid as it may sound but I saw so many videos that use filters that just create unrealistic expectations when there is absolutely no need for it😅

It's where the only thing higher than the altitude is the level of amazement. It's the ancient Incan version of 'built to impress,' a place so breathtaking that even llamas take selfies. It has been part of my bucket list and I'm hoping that somehow sooner, my travel dart would land here so I would get to explore this beautiful and historical place!

Just wanted to say, great video! About the jumping restrictions, it's interesting to note that they stem from past accidents when tourists would leap around for photos. The thing is, with all those terraces around-built by the Incas for farming and all-the risks were pretty serious. So, it's a balance between preserving the site's history and keeping everyone safe.

I answered and said, "If I have found favor in thy sight, O Lord, show this also to thy servant: whether after death, as soon as every one of us yields up his soul, we shall be kept in rest until those times come when thou wilt renew the creation, or whether we shall be tormented at once?" 76 He answered me and said, "I will show you that also, but do not be associated with those who have shown scorn, nor number yourself among those who are tormented. 77 For you have a treasure of works laid up with the Most High; but it will not be shown to you until the last times.
78 Now, concerning death, the teaching is: When the decisive decree has gone forth from the Most High that a man shall die, as the spirit leaves the body to return again to him who gave it, first of all it adores the glory of the Most High. 79 And if it is one of those who have shown scorn and have not kept the way of the Most High, and who have despised his law, and who have hated those who fear the Most High -- 80 such spirits shall not enter into habitations, but shall immediately wander about in torments, ever grieving and sad, in seven ways.
81 The first way, because they have scorned the law of the Most High. 82 The second way, because they cannot now make a good repentance that they may live. 83 The third way, they shall see the reward laid up for those who have trusted the covenants of the Most High. 84 The fourth way, they shall consider the torment laid up for themselves in the last days. 85 The fifth way, they shall see how the habitations of the others are guarded by angels in profound quiet. 86 The sixth way, they shall see how some of them will pass over into torments. 87 The seventh way, which is worse than all the ways that have been mentioned, because they shall utterly waste away in confusion and be consumed with shame, and shall wither with fear at seeing the glory of the Most High before whom they sinned while they were alive, and before whom they are to be judged in the last times.
88 "Now this is the order of those who have kept the ways of the Most High, when they shall be separated from their mortal body. 89 During the time that they lived in it, they laboriously served the Most High, and withstood danger every hour, that they might keep the law of the Lawgiver perfectly. 90 Therefore this is the teaching concerning them: 91 First of all, they shall see with great joy the glory of him who receives them, for they shall have rest in seven orders.
    92 The first order, because they have striven with great effort to overcome the evil thought which was formed with them, that it might not lead them astray from life into death. 93 The second order, because they see the perplexity in which the souls of the unrighteous wander, and the punishment that awaits them. 94 The third order, they see the witness which he who formed them bears concerning them, that while they were alive they kept the law which was given them in trust. 95 The fourth order, they understand the rest which they now enjoy, being gathered into their chambers and guarded by angels in profound quiet, and the glory which awaits them in the last days. 96 The fifth order, they rejoice that they have now escaped what is corruptible, and shall inherit what is to come;
and besides they see the straits and toil from which they have been delivered, and the spacious liberty which they are to receive and enjoy in immortality. 97 The sixth order, when it is shown to them how their face is to shine like the sun, and how they are to be made like the light of the stars, being incorruptible from then on. 98 The seventh order, which is greater than all that have been mentioned, because they shall rejoice with boldness, and shall be confident without confusion, and shall be glad without fear, for they hasten to behold the face of him whom they served in life and from whom they are to receive their reward when glorified.
99 This is the order of the souls of the righteous, as henceforth is announced; and the aforesaid are the ways of torment which those who would not give heed shall suffer hereafter." 100 I answered and said, "Will time therefore be given to the souls, after they have been separated from the bodies, to see what you have described to me?" 101 He said to me, "They shall have freedom for seven days, so that during these seven days they may see the things of which you have been told, and afterwards they shall be gathered in their habitations."
102 I answered and said, "If I have found favor in thy sight, show further to me, thy servant, whether on the day of judgment the righteous will be able to intercede for the unrighteous or to entreat the Most High for them, 103 fathers for sons or sons for parents, brothers for brothers, relatives for their kinsmen, or friends for those who are most dear." 104 He answered me and said, "Since you have found favor in my sight, I will show you this also. The day of judgment is decisive and displays to all the seal of truth. Just as now a father does not send his son, or a son his father, or a master his servant, or a friend his dearest friend, to be ill or sleep or eat or be healed in his stead, 105 so no one shall ever pray for another on that day, neither shall any one lay a burden on another; for then every one shall bear his own righteousness and unrighteousness." .....2 Esdras 7:75

Thanks for a very informative video! Just one point of clarification: Machu Picchu is not one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It was declared a _Peruvian Historical Sanctuary_ in 1981 and a _UNESCO World Heritage Site_ in 1983.
Then, in a 2007 worldwide internet poll, Machu Picchu was voted (mainly by the Peruvian people) one of the *_New_*_ Seven Wonders of the World._ While that title is often used
to market Machu Picchu for tourists visiting Peru, it's not an official title. The popularity poll via free web-based voting and telephone voting was organized by the _New 7 Wonders Foundation_ based in Zurich, Switzerland. The poll was considered unscientific, partly because it was possible for people to cast multiple votes, and because an intensive campaign was led by the _Peruvian Ministry of Commerce and Tourism_ in Peru, which had a great impact in Peruvian media and consequently, Peruvian people voted massively for Machu Picchu to win.
So while it's a stunning site, it was basically voted a "New Wonder of the World" by the Peruvian people themselves, and it's not an official title.

Is true that you feel sick when you’re a top of the mountain??

Not so much in Machu Picchu itself, it's not really that high altitude. But the hike in and some of the others in the region, 100% yes - altitude sickness is no joke and Stace got sick!

Attributing to the Incas something they had no idea about is, to put it mildly, megalomania. It is clear that the Incas built their structures by "adopting" existing ruins of buildings whose purpose they had no idea of. These ruins are impossible to make with today's technology, i.e. blocks made of polygonal blocks.

Not impossible but a lot of work. All of it has been misattributed, these places were built by Aryan pagans like all the other megalithic structures, the "indigenous" people just took it over when the Aryans disappeared and now absorbed the legacy. There is no way the Incas or any other civilization built these; and not aliens either.
