Another epic trip and awesome episode. Keep up the 'Geology with Noah' sets as well, interesting to learn about Canadian geology, glaciation and all things nerdy.

Hi Guys. Really love all your videos. We ran the middle part of the Aguanish in 1998, about 70 miles worth in a week. We flew in to Lac Harvey coming in over those cliffs from the east. There was no burn then between Lac Harvey and Lac Padoue, though there was old burn below there.
That last ferocious set above Padoue where you portaged over boulders and then lined the left we lined the whole thing down the right shore. Very intense lining as I recall. Below Padoue at the monster set we portaged the whole thing on the left - over a mile - still referred to by all of us as the portage from hell. You guys portage through some ugly stuff on the right and then very bravely ran and lined some of it. Dang. Also we took 2 days to do what you did in 1.
    What a river.
Can't wait to see the rest . Cheers from the U.S.

Babe wake up Northern Scavenger posted and the Toronto boys are back.
In all seriousness, a huge part of these videos is seeing some of your Toronto buddies join. These guys talk exactly like me and my friends, and to see them taking on the great outdoors is amazing.

"There was time in this country when only hardened people could navigate the landscape. A time when roads were rivers, cars were canoes and travel was grueling.
A small breed of people in this country still go to find that challenge of the land, they push their limits, work relentlessly and absorb the hardship, all to look for the essence of the north.
When these folks find themselves on the brink of stepping into that challenge, they go in head first and just fucking send it."

The man made object was most likely a Kamutik/Qamutiq. The metal was likely what we call shoeing that goes on the bottom of the runners. Metal shoeing has been replaced by teflon for quite some time.

    2) Why are you not using your spray tarps (I think that's the term) after having your gear almost ruined earlier in the trip?
    3) How did you all meet? And what got you into adventuring/canoeing/long trips?

About the wildfires, the burnt area along that portion of the Aguanish is the result of ~44 000 ha fire dating from 2013. That year was a pretty big one for wildfires all over Québec. Côte-Nord usually receives more precipitations than western and central Québec, although fires (and some notably huge ones) are still frequent in this area.

I can only suspect it would take longer than in a more southern border boreal type forest, to regrow after a fire. Many of the clips seen show decent water to pole in, lets not forget the pole. for when you have a broken paddle a pole can be had right of the stream bank or so. Easy to crafter from standing dead or even green. Speaking of cutting trees you could cut a small green tree in one of the burns and count the growth rings for an idea of how old the burn is. Broken paddle number two, not to harp on it but a pole is so handy in these class one and two rapids and even into some class threes. It sure takes time to learn the skill but well worth it. You guys should do a spin off of Under the Yoke podcast. Just a though record around the fire in the evening and offer up a series on this. any topic including glacial till, hey, maybe that could be the title, Glacial Till podcast.
