    I know these are space age and roomy, but I still prefer the Sirius' safe passageway tightness and all the well thought out storage and salability. These would be in my top 5 though.

    Smart move, putting the price at the end that is. Over 40 feet means luxury big boy slips. Learned that from a video I saw from a wise man.

    The main difference between the Sirius and a Moody DS is that the Sirius is a bespoke vessel while the Moody is more production. That's why you find a few Moody in the for sale section but almost never a Sirius. And compared to the Sirius the bulwalk of the Moody is simply awesome.

      Sirius yachts are stunning, I choose the moody simply as the production time is a bit less while still very customizable however not as customizable as the Sirius

    I think you said it best when you said this is one of the most stunning deck salons on the market. I absolutely love this boat. This could make anyone love sailing. It's absolutely incredible, and I would love to own one and sail all over the oceans with it. Great video by the way as they always are in terms of explanations and video footage. I think catamarans can be good, especially the outremer and undoubtedly the gunboat. But dollar for value, the Moody deck salon is comparable for far far less money except there's no beating the speed of a gunboat but you would have to have three million dollars or more for that one. That's one of the reasons I love this boat.

    Very nice vessel, really looking forward to the comparison with the Sirius which is my favorite. I like the versatility of the space. Is there enough storage in the DS of the moody for the galley ?

    Hey Chris, this is a great boat, and I am saving up to get one of these, or the 45's, for retirement in 2-3 years time. Hopefully by then, there will be slightly used ones on the market that are a bit less pricey. But for the price, compared to a brand new cat (which I was looking to build here in Asia) I agree with you, these Moody's are quite the boat.

    Fell in love with the Moody the second I set foot on one. Would like to get a small 41 to just learn and scoot around on but like you said nobody is selling a used one. Can only find one used 62 for sale and only a limited number of the 54's

    If I won the lotto, I would have a custom boat built based on a Moody DS, but with full cutter rigging and bilge keel. I'd also have it with an electric motor but keep the fuel tank for a genny as backup and instead of a sliding top, I'd have a full hard top for even more solar panel real estate. I'd likely go a little bigger than a 41 though, maybe a 45 lwl if the loa wouldn't break that next bracket since I'm realistic enough to know I'd sometimes have to be in a marina whether I want to be or not lol.

    Yes, this Moody 41 Sex Salon is a stunner! I love everything about it, however the wife is not turned on with the over 6ft draft. When it comes to draft, she says she prefers something a bit more average, like 5.5ft. What can I say, I've got her spoiled.

    After sailing on cats, I love the one level living concept, after your video on DS, I fell in love with that design, wonder why we don't see more of them? Maybe it doesn't look as sleek or light, but it functions well and keep you out of the weather.

    I like the galley and full view. It's a nice boat. I like old wood boats. I own a forest. So Acorn to Arabella, Tally Ho, and Salt and tar. I know one of the hardest ways to obtain a sailing vessel. I always like going to see the tallships I descibe Acorn to Arabella as being rich. The lumber and time. Well I got the timber. Just need to build cottage before a boat. Nice to have a place to call home if boat sinks. Huron Jewel is nice to me. Still a lot of upkeep. And $$$$$$. I like seeing expensive boats. Lots of good ideas for if I ever build a boat. I like schooners.

    Notice how a couple are always depicted sailing from the cockpit as one would expect but that they are always depicted standing up so that they can see over the house in front of them. The thing is a motorsailer and would never be bought by anyone who truly loves sailing

      Total cost of ownership
      Most people are familiar with basic car expenses & maintenance, whether changing the oil or just washing it now and then
      But when it comes to boats, so many either dont really think it through, or simply don't know, how often a boat should be hauled out, what the docking/storage costs are, etc
      Chris has more precise cost calcs, but I think mono vs cat is on the order of 2x - and that's if you can even find a suitable marina that can handle a cat
      Imagine driving a Honda, but you needed to drive 100 miles to a soecial shop just to fill it up, put air in the tires, etc
      Chris' great value is focusing everyones attention on actual, real world costs of ownership, including the headache factor
      Having a mono is like taking that honda around to the corner station. Anyone can haul it, anyone can store it, and it won't kill your wallet to park it at a marina if you so choose
      For those that don't have a problem affording a cat, the hassle factor still needs to be considered, unless even that task is offloaded to professional support

      If it's not a live aboard TCO shows leasing or renting a yacht would be cheaper. If it's a hobby you have really nice fast trailerable trimarans where you can retract to use only one slip like the Corsair. Consider also resale values where Cats are in demand with higher resale values.

    This is a timely vid, just saw Nautistyle's review of the 2010 Moody 62 DS that Rico is brokering. Thats a really nice boat, and given its age, is reasonably priced, under a million for a 62 footer..

    Moody looks like a very nicely appointed vessel, however the price is a real shocker. This puts it out of reach for me forever. Besides the draft is real deep - at 7 ft you'd be hard pressed anywhere in the Bahamas or Gulf of Mexico coastline. I'd go with a used Wauquiez 42 Pilot Saloon, for much less. Great video!

  • @larkangel6593
    @larkangel6593 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    And so everybody, if you can't afford a Sirius or Moody DS (all of us?), what's the cheapest way to mimic the effect?
    A well lit regular salon with ample cockpit space covered with full canvas
    Iow, we're back to the 2-10 yo 32-40' wide beam modern boats Chris has been featuring. Just budget some money to get a well built Bimini and think how to brighten up the cabin
    Voila, a $100-200k very livable, good sailing boat ready to go today

    The Moody 41 DS I definitely my second choice. Maybe the price difference would be enough to change my mind….. Naa! The Moody DS41 would be my choice if I wanted to accommodate several people whenever I sailed. The reality would seem to be more often I’ll be single handing mostly the time. So as it’s said it’s about the right fit.
    PS. I truly appreciate you featuring these deck salons. Peace!

  • @dahveed284
    @dahveed284 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I worry about the stability of this. Moving all that space and weight up 3 feet would seem to make the boat less stable. Perhaps not. I'll have to investigate. Also, how does it sail? I suspect it's slower that a similarly sized monohull. I do like the concept though. And I love that the cockpit has shading.

    • @Morrisfactor
      @Morrisfactor 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's Capsize Formula rating is 190, not too bad for such a beamy boat and beneath the 200 cut-off line (over 200 not considered safe in the event of a roll-over). The Comfort Ratio is 30.24 which, again, isn't bad for such a wide boat and better than most Beneteau/Jeanneau/Hunters (those boats usually in the mid 20's which means the crew will be tossed about like a salad). I'd be a little worried if all the glass would hold in a knockdown but otherwise the boat seems impressive and Moody has a solid reputation.

    • @Morrisfactor
      @Morrisfactor 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @ABC gang I never claimed that anything over 2 flips over and sinks, though the formula is a good GUIDELINE to determine if your boat will survive a roll-over. The Capsize rating is a direct result of the 1979 FASNET DISASTER where many yachts racing around England were capsized/rolled during a force 10 storm and some remained upside down long enough to sink or be abandoned. Due to the many fatalities caused by the storm, a panel of marine experts came up with the Capsize rating to promote safety for future sailing designs and the design board suggested yachts with ratings over 200 were best used for coastal cruising while ratings below 200 were significantly safter for offshore conditions. Comfort level in the rating system regards the motion of the boat - how stiff, how much it hobby-horses, how quiet, whether the hull motion is slow rolling or snap-rolling, etc. It has nothing to do with the helmsman or experience (which varies greatly) but simply how a design feels at sea and how rested a crew will feel compared to other designs in the same conditions.

    BS ...pure advertising. No railings to brace for bad weather, because this thing will heel much more than in the add. Only two cabin, where for example very similar Albatross 42 offer a 3 cabin option for 1/2 the price. Helm not protected from sun/ rain when sailing (with sails!), the gorgeous woman will get soaked while the handsome man does his pedicure. Beam broad like a Dufour 410/412, does not prevent rolling at anchor it light swell, where a cat will provides lots of comfort and space. BS my friend, credibility = 0

    Not seeing the case, why is this better than a Multihull. Have you ever been on an anchorage with occasional ocean swell? On a monohull, you can be launched into the air if hit on the beam. Then there is the draft 7+ ft. Ouch!! Sorry once experiencing all the benefits of multihulls & cruising. Personally, I'm not going back anytime soon to antiquated technology's.
